There were details in there that only people inside the club know about - like the exact size of the deal, the debt, the overdraft etc.

I was shocked that so many people heard the same thing last evening...including people connected to the club and over in Ireland with the team.

Vialli was a surprise to me, but the other content of the 'tale' being put round the north east included some very accurate info.

I checked back this morning to see if it was a wind-up and my original source told me who told him...and it came from a member of staff at the Toon before it hit any messageboard.

The trouble is that there are a lot of lies being told up there by all parties just now because the club and a lot of money is at stake. So we will just have to wait and see.

dear me, it was a wind-up posted on a Newcastle forum, here is the original post from early monday morning -

The new owners are based in Hong Kong, not Malaysia. The sale will be announced tomorrow and Gianluca Vialli will be appointed Director of Football. Shearer is expected to be named manager. There will be £30 million made available for transfers.

Ashley is selling for £85 million up front with £100 million to be paid in the future in repayment of the loan. Barclays are owed £40 million which has to be paid within two years.

Our first signing will be Jermaine Beckford from Leeds - the deal is ready for signing as soon as the sale is completed.

Harper is to be made club captain and there are several offers on the table for our players including Martins, Gutierrez, Coloccini and Smith.

Source is a mate that works in NUFC's legal department.

and here is what was written underneath the very same post in white text so that it only showed up if you highlighted:

Everyone else seems to be ITK, so I thougt I'd make something up too.

:P:lol:

btw the overdraft only something people inside the club know? it's widely known and been reported by numerous sources, the fans have known about that for a good few weeks now as it was first mentioned right after the end of the season when Shearer was waiting to hear back from Llambias.

better luck next time. ;)

Newcastle don't really have 30 million to spend, do they?

This is beyond depressing. One of the worst run clubs in the league, get relegated, still have infinitely more money than us even when we sell our top players.

I know about the rogue e-mail...it was around the block and back long before last night it seems.

However the Vialli thing is from someone inside your club with loose lips.

I think someone - one of the few remaining at the club - has been blabbing a bit too much.

no that was totally made up. we won't be spending a penny until a takeover is completed and even then we'll surely be bringing in more through sales than we spend on transfers.

Now I'm not too pleased that we haven't got any top quality signings as yet, and that lot doesn't give too much cause for excitement. However we've not spent any money as yet. We've still got most of our transfer budget left. If we haven't brought in a couple of top quality players when we've spent our transfer budget, then there'd be cause for complaint, but until then we can't really be too upset. Also we're in early July - no need to panic just yet, there's still time.

Last season it was evident the squad needed an overhaul, there was a lot of deadwood. Sam seems to be doing that, which isn't easy on the cheap, hence those who have been brought in. They all seem younger alternatives then what we have all with more potential then who we had in before.

The most disappointing for me is Jacobsen as he's most likely to be near the first team, and don't think he's going to have a significant impact on the team (hope I'm wrong though). However, I'll reserve judgement on this until I see how the money is spent, and judge Sam's efforts as a whole. If Jacobsen is more of a squad player or allows us to spend the money on a cm or striker (or even if he turns out to be very good) then it'll be a shrewd piece of business.

Ince wasn't considered great in the transfer market just because robbo was a success. No, blowing transfer fees and wages on grella, andrews, carlos, simpson & fowler, all contribute to the overall picture of a manager incompetent at transfer dealings. Similarly, let's wait till we see the full picture of Sam's transfer policy this summer before slating him.
