As Nicko said before, Hull City were offering daft money to him. I heard £40-45k a week was offered. I doubt Sunderland have offered that.

Also if rumours are true about them wanting to get Bent and Crouch he'd be third choice striker instead of first, and that's assuming Jones goes (otherwise imo he'd be fourth choice). Not sure why he'd choose Sunderland if both the wages and the chances of first team football are lower.

Can't see what all the fuss is about him, I'm glad we haven't been linked with him. Not worth anywhere near £6m in my book.

It's his dad I think. It seems his dad speaks for him - reminds me of the Michael Jackson/Jackson5-dad thing (though I'm not saying Keith Campbell beats Fraizer if he miss-places a pass or anything  )

I had the privelage of seeing the lad play live for a season and in CCC looked class, though in some games he would run his socks off, but look dis-interested and sometime be easily marked out of a game. His raw pace though is what makes him a good player.

There's a vid of him here;

(check out the Tuguy-esque pass on 42 seconds)

Despite him being good in the CCC, I'd say Ken Jones is a much better player and had a couple of seasons PLAYING top-flight football. Campbell made 2 appearances for Spurs I think. Jones has pace AND strength, Campbell is a bit lightweight, though he's good at earning a freekick from a situation.

Agree 100%

Disagree 100% - how many times have you seen Martins play? No composure?? HA

Did you read the rest of it>>

"We know though we need to bolster the front line and the squad in general"

"We would try to bring them to the training ground first"

"but I think we will be successful in the end" :P

seen martins play plenty and his defining attribute is his lack of composue, followed by his frequent uges to shoot a country mile over the bar from 30-40 yards before passing.........good players tend to stand out in bad teams, in a pis-poor team he's been poor, Apparrent 80k a week should seal the deal of him not leaving though, what an absolute winner roeder was in his time there.

If we are the stepping stone for Sam's managerial career, then obviously he will care about the fortunes of the club.

Come back tomorrow and try again. ;)

That's not really a good thing, as there is a difference between someone in it for the long run who wants to help the club itself, and someone who just wants a few impressive results to boost his resume. Unfortunately there are very few who don't fall in the latter category.

Is it just me or did Martins not look very quick last season? I don't remember his pace ever causing teams any problems, he always looked pretty sluggish I thought.

Has he ever had any serious injuries? If not then those questions about his age could be true, looking at his face it's certainly possible.

Cannnot See Martins happening at all, reckon Sam is going to buy someone at least 6 foot.

Nicko, do you know anything about this guy;

http://community.footballpools.com/blog/20...scoring-charts/

Seydou Doumbia.

Give it a rest will you. Im sure the kids will love Barton as their new role model. Anyway, he hasnt signed so lets keep it that way. Steven Pienaar is 10 times better than Barton :-) so lets sign him. In fact, Maniche is available on a free, but hey ho, we want Barton.

We want any midfielder who will better and improve our first team ! I have an open mind as long as they do well at our club, for our team, and the fans appreciate any hard work they put in, like we do for Andrews as well as he worked his boll*cks off last season and fair paly to him !

We aren`t in for Barton as you said, or not that we are aware of, so we should draw a line under it and lets hope that we have atragtes in mind who are much better than Barton and Andrews put together :-)

Is that meant to not make sense or have I missed some sarcasm

Course I did but that isn't in the context of what I was saying, it would be tough even for Sam to use the third person at every opportunity... "They would try to bring them to the training ground first" would constitute a truly odd sentence.

I meant it in a wider context, it's been winding me up for a while, all through last season he used the third person at every opportunity and he's at it again. He's talking like a hired gun or a consultant something.

As I said, I like him and I'm glad he's our manager but I just wish he looked a bit more enthusiastic about being one of US.

He is one of us, he saved us. I think he just makes the point of 'them' when he's talking about the board and the players, which is fair enough.

If its about the club as a whole, it then 'we'. Its not his team yet anyway, once he puts his stamp on it, it will be 'we' dont you worry.

Here, here and Amen to that!!! Peace!!

But that Barton is a..........

Im not doubting or questioning Bartons ability, as a footballer. Its his attitude and aggressiveness(sp) off the field im more concerned about. Sometimes his off field antics, he brings on to the field. As far as im concerned, Maniche would be a better option if Sam is interested.

 he uses they and BLACKBURN ,because he does not give two flying ###### for the club,he is in it for one thing only ,sam LARDARSE alladyce, you only had to hear him last season going on about how he beat arsenal/manure and liverpoo,i thought it was bolton that beat them

I couldn't care less if Allardyce has BWFC tattooed on his arse-cheeks, the man deserves credit for saving our bacon last season.

Here's a freebie that might be worth a look as a different striking option: Javier Chevanton. I always thought he was quality, still only 28 so I'm not sure why Sevilla chose not to keep him. He's different to what we have anyway with a good record in Europe.

Chevanton is on a free? Thats a great shout.

Do you know if he's been injured or anything? I'm amazed that there isn't a bit of a scramble for him, seems to perform in every league he plays. Looks like he has a bit of a history of moving on frees as well.

9 starts in 3 seasons.. about 30 appearances total in 3 seasons. Bad knee, and a substitute at Sevilla at the best even when fit.

Worth a look, but I think he still has takers in Spain where he'd rather stay..
