Roost Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 No way we will be able to pay 18mill on 1 player, plus pay him huge wages. Stuttgart will be in Europe, and the German league aint that bad. Man United also wants or wanted Huntelaar, as did both Milans. I suppose Rovers has a slight chance though. Iceman, hows it looking over there for the world cup next year? Is evrything gonna be finished? I am planning to come over for the whole tournament and I wondering where to base myself...... (sorry mods, I know its not transfer related, will PM next time!)

philipl Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Just focusing on transfers, the news yesterday could not have been any worse for the Rovers: City closing the Etoo chapter and now the press speculating they won't get Tevez either means they are still in the market for forwards which effectively kills the market- Villa and Spurs will be very reluctant to move whilst calamity Cook is rushing around flashing his wad at anything that resembles a football forward. And that in turn means another delay before prices and wages drop into the doable for Rovers bracket. Even worse, if Fulham are the destination for Crouch it leaves Sunderland looking for two strikers and makes the departure of Kenwynne Jones delayed to unlikely. One final factor to consider when throwing up non-EPL names for consideration. Compared with last summer, the £ has devalued by some 20% against the Euro and the top rate tax has gone up to 50% in the UK. Put all that together and the English clubs are more than 30% less competitive in the market than they were last season. A player we could have paid £25K a week to last year has to be paid £35K a week now and the player himself sees zero improvement in take home in his perception of the deal.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I'm sorry to say but the prices being touted around are ridiculous at best.Average run of the mill players costing now 8-9 Million a throw?.........its crazy and totally out of control.

What does everyone think of Benjani??? Oh no, not bloody Benji!

Eddie Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Just to give an update on one particular front: Gignac has come out and said that he would like to leave Toulouse and go to Lyon. Their chairman has responded by saying that he won't let that happen. Getting very close to where Gignac will have to move this summer. Toulouse may not want to sell to Lyon, but I still think they would sell to a club abroad and I think Gignac would be interested in getting away from there now as he seems intent on burning his bridges.
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Personally i think Gignac would be a brilliant signing, i hope Sam is following the situation at Toulouse. I can see Sam making a bid for Crouch even if the chances of landing him are slim, he knows that there is disharmony at the club. Even if the bid fails it will probably drive the price up for Crouch and take more out of the budget of sides that are around us.
T4E Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 What does everyone think of Benjani??? Oh no, not bloody Benji! If he didnt cost too much I'd be fine with it. Decent player.
Torgeir Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 If he didnt cost too much I'd be fine with it. Decent player. Hasn't proved himself for a while, not since signing for City actually. Aren't we considering pretty much every striker in the world right now? I hope we don't end up with him...
Hughesy Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 If he didnt cost too much I'd be fine with it. Decent player. Me too. Given the amount he has played, id say no more than 4 or 5m though
den Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Guys - 30 year old Benjani hasn't been able to get into Man City's first team for ages. A Man City team that couldn't score a goal to save their lives. Let's aim a bit higher than this eh?

A Man City team that couldn't score a goal to save their lives. Let's aim a bit higher than this eh? The man can't finish to save his life, Den's right we can do much better and should.
Hughesy Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I dont say as 1st option, but rather than someone like Roberts id prefer Benjani. I hope we get a young striker as 1st option, someone like Gignac.
rovers1995 Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 In the LET, (I know it isn't the most reliable), it says "The Lancashire Telegraph now understands that Rovers are keeping a close eye on developments at Manchester City, where more than one striker of interest to Allardyce may become available as Mark Hughes bids to improve his squad with star signings. The likes of Valeri Bojinov, Craig Bellamy and Felipe Caicedo may find themselves down the pecking order." What would you think about this three, I would like any of them here.
nicko Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 There's a bit of nonsense coming out of France today that will no doubt make some of the papers... ARUNA DINDANE...half-fit striker...supposed to be signing for you in a £5 million deal...as if. ABDOULAYE MEITE...coming soon...help! CHRIS SAMBA...to Everton for £8.5 million...garbo...but a bit worrying he seems to be talking about moving to the French press.

I would have Bellamy back in a flash, the others, another load of foreign names who may or may not come off! Bellamy has pace and can finish, ther could be an opportunity there, if City manage to sign another striker!

Bellamy has pace and can finish, ther could be an opportunity there, if City manage to sign another striker! With his wages and fee we have no chance, surely. he must be on 60-80K at least. Although maybe a loan??? we need to use this format more. None of the other strilkers at city float my boat. I'd take Roberts over Bejani, I still remember his first season at Pompey and one miss inparticular from about two yards.
Oklahoma Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 As Maniche's agent, I'm pleased to announce that he is close to sign for Ankaraguçu from Turkey He will receive €2.5 million per year in a 3 year contract. FC Porto is close to sign Falcão. Benfica want a striker but not to replace Cardozo.
blue and whites Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 have we made a bid for anyone yet, eh nicko?
LeChuck Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Please not Benjani. PLEASE. I'd rather Davies. Benjani couldn't couldn't hit a barn door for most of his Pompey career, then he had a purple patch for a few months and City panic bought him when they didn't get anyone else. Apart from working hard he offers nothing.

He's a real powerhouse and can finish. CHRIS SAMBA...to Everton for £8.5 million...garbo...but a bit worrying he seems to be talking about moving to the French press. Looks like he's going to be our pain in the arse now that Crocky has gone.

He is quick and can play as a striker and winger. The ivory coast normally plays him down the wing or behind 2 strikers
