Is relevant to us, any further news on Darren Bent's likely destination?

Birmingham local press linking Villa with him today.

Sunderland's bid is still the biggest, but Spurs are being stubborn...I can't see Villa getting into that chase unless they throw a player or two of their own into the mix.

Any transfer 'chain' that includes Spurs is wlasy guaranteed to be slow and complicated.

Has Sam expressed any interest in American players? Donovan Landon and Michael Bradley both have experience internationally and in the German leagues, so should be able to be competitive in the EPL.

If there was a top American target man Sam would swim the Atlantic to get him right now.

There seems to be a number of deals all waiting for the merry-go-round to start ....

Crouch - Bent - Jones - Young - Keane - Bentley - A Smith and probably a few more to

Any news Nicko on who will finish up where?

Sunderland are the big money players outside the 'elite' right now - but it's not easy for them to get players to join them. They want Crouch and Bent and have more cash than anyone, but a month on they still can't land them.

Jones's future depends on landing those two...or any others.

No idea on Young, Bentley will probably find a home somewhere...and the Newcastle players will get shipped out once they get an owner and a manager and find anyone daft enough to take them.

There is no way we can afford to sell Samba at this time. We have already sold Santa Cruz and Debyshire ( I have no problem with those sales) but if we also sell Samba what sort of message does that give to potential incoming players. It's hard enough to attract them as it is.

We need at least one big signing before we can let any more players (Andrews, Treacey or equivalent excepted) be sold. Just my opinion.

Are you kidding? The examples of Bentley, RSC, Bellamy, RSC show that we can provide stars whose careers have flatlined or even nosedived the best incentive that they could hope for. 2 years graft and determination whilst on Blackburn's books will see them at a top 4 club in double quick time. How good is that as a message to incoming players? If the squad can cope then we must not stand in their way but only as long as the time is right for the club. January was not the time to sell RSC, July was.

Any agent with a star player whose career was stagnating should have carried em to Blackburn on his back whilst Hughes was in charge. It is imperative that SA carries this forward, whether he can or not only time will tell. It's inevitable that being a financial midget in the land of giants and with a puny fan base that contributes little to the kitty that we need to adopt a business plan to exploit the situation in order to survive. We all know that we will sell the likes of Samba or Warnock some day for a big profit maybe Givet too, so the trick is in having a production line of replacements already set up. The talent is out there.

Easy said perhaps but what options do we have?

Disagree entirely. The only way forward is to keep our best players and build round them. In recent years the sales of Shearer Duff and Bentley have brought either relegation or desperately close brushes with relegation and there's no reason to suggest that would be any different in future.

The sales of RSC and Derbyshire are looking increasingly like disasters waiting to happen with us seemingly unwilling to pay the going rates for suitable replacements.

The sale of Samba for 15m let alone 8.5m would be the absolute death knell for the Club. If he left we might as well turn the lights out now. He's the one player in the squad above all others who absolutely has to stay. As Fife says, a genuinely overinflated price like 35m should be his going rate and if someone wanted to pay that so be it otherwise he goes nowhere.

The financial situation at the club may force the sale of Samba.

Financial security is of paramount importance.

Unless a truly ridiculous offer came in, selling Samba would be madness. He is one of the few quality players in our team/squad. Plus his value should rise over the next couple of years.

You can say replacements are there, but much easier said than done.

Well hope my mates news about A Smith being linked to us was wide of the mark then.

I agree with that SG.

There seems to be an air of "we can't get top players here" from some of the fans. We've done it in the past and we can do it again. It's just too easy settling for the Jones's, Beattie's and Davies's.

Starting to think I'd be fairly happy with Jones or Beattie Den.

It's looking more likely we're going to end up with something like Vieri on a free and Lita on loan!

:o

If RSC (and derbs) had to be sold they should have been replaced instantly with Bent or Crouch. No messing about, no quibbling over the price.

How this Club has fallen over the last two seasons. We've sold four players for around 36m and the most expensive incoming player has been Grella for 4m with Robinson being the only top quality acquisition.

"The only way forward is to keep our best players and build round them" Bloody hell Simon! You and I have been watching BRFC long enough to know that we simply cannot do that! The only time we could was when Jack Walker was bankrolling us.

The sales of Shearer, Duff and Bentley hurt us most cos we didn't have adequate replacements lined up. The likes of Per Pederson and Keith Andrews in that context were ludicrous.

Course we can, only player ever sold because we needed to was Sutton when we were relegated.

You could possibly add RSC to that now because Sam probably wanted some "spending power" in the transfer market.

Or at least that was probably his original intention.

Lita on trial wouldn't be the worse thing to do. Sam obviously rated him in his early years where he looked an explosive, if raw, talent.

He's still young enough to come good.

Agree. Good example of a player who has 'lost their way'.

You disagreed with me on the Hughes remuneration package if I rem correctly. But he's gone and incredibly after just 3 years he's left us 50m better off! Would have been better if he was still here earning 20% of whatever. But no good crying over spilt milk eh? We have had to move on.

We'll have to sell if Samba and is agent start performing. He'll no doubt have noted Crocky's and Bentley's behaviour and may well follow suit.

Apparently he's flapping his gums to the French press now. Probably being "miss quoted" as we speak.

You think then we'd have learnt by now in that situation, don't sell!. The same thing is obviously happening having sold RSC.!

Hughes being the only manager in my 45 years+ of watching to line up replacements first. When he did put his foot down over Lucas Neill the numpty's in the Bburn End made his task even harder. <_<

We may have to if Samba starts angling for a move...

Our philosophy has to be buy low...sell high. That's just the way it is, I'm afraid.

And just for the record, it was a disgrace that Shearer wasn't replaced in 1996, especially with Jack's funds.

This RSC thing is ridiculous IMO.

We sell a player who scored 4 league goals in 20 apps last season for £18 million- an astounding figure, we have got enough money in the bank to purchase a top player- and we will but we need to wait.

What is the point of keeping a striker who plays half a season and scores 4 goals? Anybody else think that the season before was a lucky season? He has never before and since scored more than FIVE league goals.
