thenodrog Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 We may have to if Samba starts angling for a move... Our philosophy has to be buy low...sell high. That's just the way it is, I'm afraid. And just for the record, it was a disgrace that Shearer wasn't replaced in 1996, especially with Jack's funds. Obviously didn't want Shearer to leave but I wanted us to go for Robbie Keane at that time. He'd certainly have been OK and a damned site better than the likes of PP / a very young Kevin Davies / Nathan Blake and Ashley bloody Ward.

RevidgeBlue Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Hughes being the only manager in my 45 years+ of watching to line up replacements first. Errrm............. apart from your pal Ince who lined up Robinson before Friedel was allowed to move of course! Re: Neill - Warnock in and Emerton at RB made us much stronger imo.

Robbie Keane was 15 when Alan Shearer went to Newcastle [after turning down Man U]. You truly are a man of vision, Theno.
Beta Ray Bill Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Robbie Keane was 15 when Alan Shearer went to Man U. You truly are a man of vision, Theno. And you're living in an alternate dimension!
PAFELL Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Robbie Keane was 15 when Alan Shearer went to Man U. You truly are a man of vision, Theno. When did shearer go to Man U?

Good grief, we've had some crap up front in the last fifteen years. Keane would have been a nifty signing... mind you I wanted Batistuta! Didn't we go in for Bierhoff when we were struggling? EDIT - Keane was 15 back then.. bloody hell he seems to have been around for a while... It remains a great shame that we missed out on his namesake Roy in 1993.
nicko Posted July 12, 2009 Author Posted July 12, 2009 And you're living in an alternate dimension! True, that will teach me for being a smart ass.

Re: Neill - Warnock in and Emerton at RB made us much stronger imo. Indeed but Warnock wouldn't come in the summer would he? Hence Hughes keeping Neill till January. We have to sell to survive thats that but the decision must be ours and not the players and not the Banks. Oh!...... And the only way to keep the bank off our backs is not to buy the likes of Bent and Crouch at any price. Especially when neither seem keen on moving up norf.
nicko Posted July 12, 2009 Author Posted July 12, 2009 Could Keane be a target now? Monumental wages.
Hughesy Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 No Rovers news nicko? Nothing happening except us just sitting and waiting on strikers?
nicko Posted July 12, 2009 Author Posted July 12, 2009 No Rovers news nicko? Nothing happening except us just sitting and waiting on strikers? As far as I know that is how it stands.
Ritchie Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Monumental wages. Isn't Bent on big wages too? And I imagine Pavlyuchenko is rolling in it too. Bloody hell, Spurs have p*ssed a lot of money up the wall through the years.
thenodrog Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Robbie Keane was 15 when Alan Shearer went to Newcastle [after turning down Man U]. You truly are a man of vision, Theno. Damn! My mistake it must have been when Sutty went. Whenever he left Wolves for Cov I thought we should have gone in for him.
John Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I thought Spurs had quite a low wage cap, compared with other clubs? I sense impatience from some, but generally most of the other PL clubs are similar to us, in that plenty of enquries being made however few deals being done. “Sometimes it takes longer than we want though. For instance, I spoke to Nicholas Anelka on May 20 and he signed on August 28.
thenodrog Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I thought Spurs had quite a low wage cap, compared with other clubs? Obviously a myth given the number and type of players that they attract. Wages and remuneration must be two different animals at WHL.
nicko Posted July 12, 2009 Author Posted July 12, 2009 I thought Spurs had quite a low wage cap, compared with other clubs? It's what they would like you to believe. Keane was on big dough at Liverpool and took the smallest of cuts to go 'home' in January/February.
Boltinho Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Mame Biram Diouf is the answer. He had an epic game today. 4 goals in 27 mins plays for Molde in Norway. I know it's a low standard league.. He's from Senegal and gonna be a star some day. But he is no finished yet. A great potensial Quick, huge, great header. Must be better to set his chances, but he only gets better and better by the day. Probably played his last match in Norway today.

donis1410 Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 To be honest I am starting to worry that this striker search could be a very similar case to that of last summer with the replacement of Bentley....eeeeeeekkkkk
tashor Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Starting to think I'd be fairly happy with Jones or Beattie Den. It's looking more likely we're going to end up with something like Vieri on a free and Lita on loan! If RSC (and derbs) had to be sold they should have been replaced instantly with Bent or Crouch. No messing about, no quibbling over the price. How this Club has fallen over the last two seasons. We've sold four players for around 36m and the most expensive incoming player has been Grella for 4m with Robinson being the only top quality acquisition.
Boltinho Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I know.. He's that good. I have seen him a lot last year and this year. He's getting better and better. Work Permit issues in england i guess.. I guess he will be signing for a french or turkish team. That's my best guess. A lot of clubs watched him today. Don't know all the clubs, but i think toulouse and lille have watched him several times.
spencey7 Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 “Sometimes it takes longer than we want though. For instance, I spoke to Nicholas Anelka on May 20 and he signed on August 28. Completely off-topic, but that article is UNBELIEVABLY poorly-written! Jones would fit the bill in terms of what Allardyce is looking for though and should Sunderland indicate a willingness to sell, Allardyce would be interested in making his interest known.
Alan75 Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 To be honest I am starting to worry that this striker search could be a very similar case to that of last summer with the replacement of Bentley....eeeeeeekkkkk Or replacing Cole with Dickov.
modes98 Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 To be honest I am starting to worry that this striker search could be a very similar case to that of last summer with the replacement of Bentley....eeeeeeekkkkki think sam is experienced enough to know that going into a season with 2 front line strikers is just asking for trouble. We will sign someone it is just a case of waiting. Sometimes you just cant rush deals. Wait for other teams to sign targets and pick up the one we want that is left.
