Hughesy Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Dont want Viduka - like someone said, no point getting shut of deadwood to sign more deadwood. I have full faith in Sam to sign 2 strikers, at least 1 prior to the start of the season. Its so slow is the market so far, some clubs with plenty of cash (Villa, Spurs, Sunderland) still to get going, hopefully once they do it will start to speed up. Suprised nobody has raided any of the relegation clubs yet..... As for Samba - we dont need to sell at the moment, maybe in 12 months (if we fail to finish were we plan for), but otherwise no sale is needed. Samba is key too, he must be kept.

den Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 If RSC (and derbs) had to be sold they should have been replaced instantly with Bent or Crouch. No messing about, no quibbling over the price. How this Club has fallen over the last two seasons. We've sold four players for around 36m and the most expensive incoming player has been Grella for 4m with Robinson being the only top quality acquisition. Have to agree Rev. We sell Rocky for £18m and we can't afford a decent replacement? If the player you want is available and you have the money, pay the asking price.
alexanders Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 we can't afford a decent replacement? I think it is more about don't rushing things.
Hughesy Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I agree, but also kind of disagree - Yes we should be willing to spend big if necessary to replace, however we shouldnt be burnt on the prices - nothing wrong with haggling the price down abit and giving us more funds to improve the squad in other areas. It just takes time. Rumours that Pompey want £14m for Crouch, and Spurs want £16m for Bent - BOTH not worth that much. £10m tops for either player, but whilst Sunderland keep sniffing around the price wont drop much.
den Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 "The only way forward is to keep our best players and build round them" Bloody hell Simon! You and I have been watching BRFC long enough to know that we simply cannot do that! The only time we could was when Jack Walker was bankrolling us. The sales of Shearer, Duff and Bentley hurt us most cos we didn't have adequate replacements lined up. The likes of Per Pederson and Keith Andrews in that context were ludicrous. Don't know what the Shearer situation was - maybe he had a get out clause? We lost Duff unnecessarily because of the clause and we [well Ince really] were too quick to sell Bentley. Cut our own throats there. No we didn't have adequate replacements, but the problem is that top players can't be replaced with equal quality and there's only one way you'll go continually selling your best players. Do the absolute best you can to keep them - and I don't believe we've been doing that for quite a while now.
gumboots Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Toulouse have turned down Lyon's latest bid of 15 million euros for Gignac
Hughesy Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Lyon seem to be the daddies of selling players for big and replacing them with new players who continue the job, and then get sold on for bigger bucks. We need to sign players who have a re-sale value, its that simple. No good signing players aged 30+.
LeftWinger Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Don't know what the Shearer situation was - maybe he had a get out clause? I thought Shearer had a verbal agreement with Uncle Jack that he could leave if he was unhappy? Might be wrong though.
Hughesy Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Shearer left because his boyhood club came in with a WORLD record fee - Simple as that! Duff left because Chelsea were daft enough to pay his release clause. Bentley left because he got big headed AGAIN - And RSC was very similar.
den Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I thought Shearer had a verbal agreement with Uncle Jack that he could leave if he was unhappy? Might be wrong though. That's why I said I didn't know - I only remember Shearer saying after he left, that the rovers fans hadn't been aware that he could have left at any time. Maybe it was a gentlemans agreement, maybe it was a get out clause?
alexanders Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Modeste M'bami still oN? M'bami to choose between Portsmouth and Blackburn Premier league offer on €20m for Negredo Any truth in this Nicko?
neophox Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Nicko: Do you know if Tevez will sign for Man City today? Any news on the rovers front?
Hughesy Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 20m euro offer will be either Mancs or City - nobody else will surely have the funds to make a realistic bid of 20m?! City might have Tevez confirmed today according to some reports. Mbami I think might just be lazy Journalism?! No quotes or anything in the story.
neophox Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Bent and Crouch is not worth the money... no way we should pay that money for them. You get top european players for that money. Buying british is expensive! Swedish talent Rasmus Jönsson of Helsingborg is a young goalscorer we should look at. He scored two against Elfsborg yesterday. Also Emir Bajrami is class on the ether wings......have a look Sam! The won't be expensive as Crouch and Bent!
socngill Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I know Jack did a huge amount for this club, but he seems to have been a bit of a soft touch! All these gentleman agreements. If true he had one with Shearer so he could leave and he tore up Sven's contract after it had been signed when he decided he wanted to go back/stay in Italy. The big softie I always thought that Shearer went to Kenny and asked for his advice on the move to Newcastle and Kenny told him he should go.
Hughesy Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Sam to look abroad Looks like we will look abroad now. Holiett confirmed in the article - should join the squad today.
alexanders Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I hope we take a look at Mario Mandzukic. Regarding Eddie's comments I am little bit afraid that we will end up with Piqionne whop he doesn't rate at all.
den Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Sam to look abroad Looks like we will look abroad now. Holiett confirmed in the article - should join the squad today. From that article Hughesy and a reply to people who think selling top players is the way to go: “There was a massive jump [in player prices] just over a year ago and another massive jump now. It starts from the top and works its way down. “That is why it is so important to keep all the players you have got rather than having to keep trading because it has always been a very difficult area to work in and it is more difficult now than ever before.”
Brad Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I have a funny idea that this all may end up like after the Bentley sale..The manager thinks he has cash but the board think otherwise, im thinking we will get one striker in, with Benni, JR and Diouf being the other three...Scary thought.. A link here that made me really think.. http://goal.com/en/news/9/england/2009/06/...-on-santa-cruzs
nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Premier league offer on €20m for Negredo Any truth in this Nicko? Negredo is being used by Real Madrid to bring money in...and that fee sounds way too high. Nicko: Do you know if Tevez will sign for Man City today? The Tevez deal has been done for weeks...about four or five now...just been down to getting the small print about his 'ownership' sorted out and letting him have a holiday.
Ricky Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 If Bolton want 10m for Davies and Spurs want 18m for Bent I suppose the price is realistic. The worlds gone mad!!!
nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Sam to look abroad Looks like we will look abroad now. Holiett confirmed in the article - should join the squad today. The article basically said what we all know - the club have inquired about around a dozen strikers at home and abroad and the prices are ferocious. However, to be fair, I think you will end up breaking your record. It's NOT for the want of trying at the moment. All it takes is for something to break and you get your man. There is no great conspiracy here to trouser the Roque cash. So, just keep it real.
nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 I WONDER WHERE THIS STORY CAME FROM? http://www.blackburncitizen.co.uk/sport/bl...rve_goalkeeper/
The Rover of Finland Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 If Bolton want 10m for Davies and Spurs want 18m for Bent I suppose the price is realistic. The worlds gone mad!!! There´s a big difference here. Bolton don´t want to sell Davies and it takes much money to change their opininon. Spurs do want to sell Bent. They just ask way too much but it´s still possible that Black Cats will pay atleast £15m.
EwoodGlory Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I WONDER WHERE THIS STORY CAME FROM? http://www.blackburncitizen.co.uk/sport/bl...rve_goalkeeper/ And this one? Partick Thistle coach set for Burnley role
