joey_big_nose Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Surely he can't be after 100k? WHU are supposedly in for him and I thought I heard Nicko say that they are not exactly fledge at the moment. Gudjohnsen could get us 15+ goals next season, with the right service, more than Crouch or Bent could.. But hey that's just my opinion, not Sam's, and I do have huge trust in the man. He's on a 100k at Barcelona, I don't think he would take much of a cut. We won't be able to negotiate down becuase every club in the Prem would be interested apart from the big four (or maybe even including them - I could see Man Utd having a look in their current striker predicament. Same with Liverpool (Torres and Gudjohnsen would be an excellent pairing). And Chelsea). Plus, as others have said, he doesn't seem that enthused about the game at the moment. I can't see it happening.

nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 thought he had agreed to everton? Everton thought that as well...it's been a very lively few hours on that front.
joey_big_nose Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Correct and Benjani & Jo who is out on loan. Aswell as Santa Cruz, Robinho, Adebayor (?), Tevez, Caciedo, Bojinov Its not fair!!! Would love Bellamy to return, but I cant that happening. The really annoying thing is that all of them will be on silly money too. I am not sure we could afford the wages of any of them apart from Caciedo. Ridiculous. Bellamy's probably on 70k. I doubt he will play more than 15 games for them next year. Sad.
Brad Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Sad thing is we can put the bids in for all these names, but the big hurdle seems to be wages...
Hughesy Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Sad thing is we can put the bids in for all these names, but the big hurdle seems to be wages... Not all of them - We can pay up to 60-65k for a top, top player, however we wont pay that to any old monkey.

Stop Man City taking the absolute P***.
Hughesy Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 If the FA did that, then they would all just move to other leagues like Italy or Spain.
novella Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 If the FA did that, then they would all just move to other leagues like Italy or Spain. Agree with what you are saying. There definatly needs to be something in place to stop it getting out of hand though. Its getting to the point where its more important to get taken over than to actually compete for the honours and win money the fair way. I think I just hate Man City.

I hear where your coming from, nothing lasts forever..And at the end of the day they will still be Man Citeh..
tcj_jones Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Could he be using the media to his advantage to push a few things!?? Haha, I was thinking similar actually! He's on a 100k at Barcelona, I don't think he would take much of a cut. Surely he can't be on £100k? I mean, even for Barcelona that's a damned heft wage. He isn't even a starter and I'm not sure he ever was.
Hughesy Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Maybe FIFA should introduce Salary caps. Would clubs not get around that by giving huge signing on bonuses then?
nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Don't give Man City too much stick. If it wasn't for their money you would have nothing to spend this summer...
S15 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Would clubs not get around that by giving huge signing on bonuses then? They'd be pretty stupid to blow the opportunity of bringing these overpaid whores down a peg or two.
Brad Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Don't give Man City too much stick. If it wasn't for their money you would have nothing to spend this summer... either that or we would still be looking at bringing in a right winger...
gumboots Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Don't give Man City too much stick. If it wasn't for their money you would have nothing to spend this summer... No but we'd still have a striker who, if he realised nobody else wanted him after last season, might just have settled down and scored a few goals for us
nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 either that or we would still be looking at bringing in a right winger... With no money... And suddenly Andy van der Meyde would feel like the second coming. No but we'd still have a striker who, if he realised nobody else wanted him after last season, might just have settled down and scored a few goals for us I think I would rather have the money than a disinterested player...especially when the money is THAT silly.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Any word on how Vieri and Van Der Meyde are shaping up in the pre-season training?
Hughesy Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 No but we'd still have a striker who, if he realised nobody else wanted him after last season, might just have settled down and scored a few goals for us Stand up comedian
nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Any word on how Vieri and Van Der Meyde are shaping up in the pre-season training? Quite well considering... Although these two would surely only be fringe men. Just a bit worried you are gathering too many of them just now. Jacobsen, N'Zonzi, van Heerden...Givet is the only one signed so far who is a proven Premier player.

gumboots Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I think I would rather have the money than a disinterested player...especially when the money is THAT silly. I'd agree with you on that, but could he have afforded to be uninterested in playing if he really wanted a move - he'd have had to at least look like he was trying or he'd have been stuck here. and I've nothing extra against City that i haven't always had. However, the stupid way they are trying to splash the cash and getting knocked back by players is annoying, because instead of that they could actually have set sensible targets like santa cruz and Barry for all positions and probably got them. Instead they are so into grandstanding, going after players who don't want to be part of their "project" and can't even be persuaded by silly wages that they are messing the whole transfer process about.

Jacobsen, N'Zonzi, van Heerden...Givet is the only one signed so far who is a proven Premier player. We can't afford proven Premiership players. Of our squad the only players who had played consistently in the Prem before signing for us are Diouf, Dunn, Roberts and Robinson. We are, like half the clubs in the prem, habitual risk takers on this front.

Pretty much the furthest away from Hughes's policy of only bringing in players to improve the first XI, wouldn't you say? I've got to admit, I can't see the point in bringing these two in. We have a pretty bloated squad already, we need quality - not ageing players eating up the wage bill. One quality striker, one quality midfielder. The latter I don't think we'll be getting but the former is absolutely essential.
