socngill Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Do teams in Italy and Spain really pay the stupid wages some teams here do? I thought we provided much higher wages than anywhere else...?

Torgeir Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 very sensible, apart from givet this summers signing have been very poor,if samba has to be sacraficed for better players so be it,he played up front mainly in the last 6 to 8 games and we did not suffer How do you know they're poor when they haven't kicked a ball in Rovers shirts yet? Samba needs to stay, he's a vital player for us and he's versatile as well. Another season and he might be the next to depart but that's the reality of being a Rover these days eh. I think Sam realises how vital it is that he doesn't get rushed into signing a grade B player to replace Roque. If we sign the proper quality we'll easily improve from last season, considering the fact that Roque was injured for the most part of it.
Kelbo Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Quite well considering... Although these two would surely only be fringe men. Just a bit worried you are gathering too many of them just now. Jacobsen, N'Zonzi, van Heerden...Givet is the only one signed so far who is a proven Premier player. Nicko, Likewise at the Turf, but none are experienced prem players, not even Mears!!
nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Nicko, Likewise at the Turf, but none are experienced prem players, not even Mears!! Burnley's needs are young [preferably], low wages and hungry...to go with the older heads that they have got...many of whom have Prem experience. Plus Coyley has two or three wild cards up his sleeve.
rovers1995 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Nicko, what was the thing that you were talking about, that will affect Rovers indirectly?
waggy Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 if we can't afford players at the top end off the market,it looks like we may have to look to the the championship, plenty of decent players down there.ledley and mccormack of cardiff are 2 we should look at
nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Nicko, what was the thing that you were talking about, that will affect Rovers indirectly? Leave that until 11pm...no point in giving too much away...think it is something that works out in your favour.
LeftWinger Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Burnley's needs are young [preferably], low wages and hungry This sounds like a job advert for an African sweat shop!

Still relating to the Sheff Utd youngsters is it? How far away are all the Newcastle players from handing in transfer requests or going on striker or something, judging from some of the comments coming out today a lot of them are getting pretty restless. They might end up making the likes of Leeds, Sheff Wed's, Chartlon's declines look like small stutters in comparison if they carry on like this

Jacobsen, N'Zonzi, van Heerden...Givet is the only one signed so far who is a proven Premier player. I don't buy into this idea of 'proven Premier League players'. Look at Newcastle, they were full of them and they still went down. Furthermore, some of their best performers (Beye, Jonas) were in their début season, even Carroll looked more threatening than the experienced trio of Owen, Viduka and Ameobi. It's about getting good players, experience is just an expensive bonus.
DeadlyDirk Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 But would anyone want to buy them? No, that's what makes it all the funnier
LeftWinger Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 even Carroll looked more threatening than the experienced trio of Owen, Viduka and Ameobi. My aunty Carol looked more threatening than those three. I wouldn't want any of those listed. The only Newcastle striker I'd even consider would be Martins.

Amo Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Burnley's needs are young [preferably], low wages and hungry...to go with the older heads that they have got...many of whom have Prem experience. Such as who? I can't think of that many with PL experience.
DeadlyDirk Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 BFS on skysports news now, asked about transfer targets, said he is still looking at the striker option and is reluctant to look at other areas of the squad until he has a striker in and if it uses all the transfer budget then so be it. Did say that pre season has started though and wants someone in so he can work with the team in pre season preferably, guess that depends though if the targets are available. Said he is looking domestic and overseas but there is more scope overseas as domestic targets are limited. Monitoring targets over here to see what happens. Asked about Bent, said he'd be interested if we could afford him but hinted strongly that quite now we can't match the transfer or wage demands, didn't rule it out though. Asked more about the timescale, said he wants it done quickly as possible but that's not always the case, referencing the Anelka deal again which took 4-6 weeks or so to happen after his first contact with him.
Amo Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Asked about Bent, said he'd be interested if we could afford him but hinted strongly that quite now we can't match the transfer or wage demands, didn't rule it out though. It's encouraging that Sam rates him. I had the feeling Sam wasn't a fan. Unfortunately, what with Spurs playing hard-ball and Bent's inflated wages, I can't see this one happening anytime soon.
nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Such as who? I can't think of that many with PL experience. Caldwell, Blake and Jordan.
philipl Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Caldwell, Blake and Jordan. As in Zoe, Nathan and Joe?
sjsbrfc Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Caldwell, Blake and Jordan. They all didn't do that well when they did play in the PL tho'
Dunnfc Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Nicko - Rigters hasn't been included on the preseason to Austria, can we assume he's to be released?
nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Nicko - Rigters hasn't been included on the preseason to Austria, can we assume he's to be released? Would anyone notice? I imagine he's been told to find himself a club. They all didn't do that well when they did play in the PL tho' Yes, but that was BC.
Amo Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Nicko - Do you think the Cardozo link has gone cold? Or is there still potential there?
nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Nicko - Do you think the Cardozo link has gone cold? Or is there still potential there? I think he is one of those in the 'we'll get back to you when stop talking silly figures' file.
