brian_gallagher85 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Do teams in Italy and Spain really pay the stupid wages some teams here do? I thought we provided much higher wages than anywhere else...? Not sure about Serie A, but teams in La Liga own the commercial rights to their players and get all the money the player makes from adverts they do and as a result of this sign their big name players up to deals with stupidly big wages i.e. Ronaldo's reported £300,000 a week deal.

John Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Interview on Rovers World. CHRISTIAN Vieri's Blackburn Rovers trial has been extended after an impressive showing at their Austrian training camp & Rovers coach Karl Robinson is expected to be appointed Paul Ince's assistant manager at MK Dons later this week. Any further news on Sbragia joining?
accyrover Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Would anyone notice? I imagine he's been told to find himself a club. Yes, but that was BC. I'm suprised Citeh havent come in for him. They seem to be buying every other bloody striker at the moment. Accyrover
PAFELL Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Don't give Man City too much stick. If it wasn't for their money you would have nothing to spend this summer... Agree with regards to them buyig RSC, gives rovers money. But flashing the cash everywhere accumilating stikers the way they are doing, cannot be helpful for football as a whole. People want to see good players playing football and not sitting on the bench. City have got so many now and are linked to a few more, they can only play so many during a game. Having good player on the bench or not even on the team sheet cannot be helpful and is bad for football. They can afford to release players they know will not get in the team / squad to allow these players to ply their trade, which is playing football.

Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have monopolised the big four - and gathered the biggest squads for the past few years. You have to admire Man City for trying to take them on. Otherwise it would be very boring. One of those four, who rely on theChampions League cash, could well be hitting the skids in a year or so. Not a bad thing either. By the way, Tevez is now official...
PAFELL Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Such as who? I can't think of that many with PL experience. Er Givet had none , until rovers brought him in!!!!!!!
imy9 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 As John pointed out Big Sam states in an interview with Rovers World that we are currently negotiating with 3 clubs for 3 strikers. Nicko are these names new ones or ones that you have already mentioned?

I wonder if all of today's talk about 'bidding for foreign strikers' is designed to remind one or two Premier League clubs that they had better drop their prices...

Nicko are these names new ones or ones that you have already mentioned? Sam also said he is hoping a young player emerges this season, and can contribute to the first team, as would save us having to buy in the transfer market. He said he is not bothered if the striker is a 'big name'.
imy9 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Big Sam did say that he would still be looking at the UK market, so you could be right.

Not a bad thing either. By the way, Tevez is now official... It takes more than just flashing the cash these days Nicko. The mistake City are making is that they trying to buy everybody. Most players still want to play champions league footy. City should buy conservatively, perhaps a few quality additions to take them to the next level. The top players are still perhaps nervous about joining a team that has done nothing. In all fairness, had the Arabs not entered Eastlands they would still be fighting with us, Villa, Everton, Spurs etc for a Uefa or Europa spot. Dont you agree Mr Nixon?
Tim Southampton Rover Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Nicko, do you know if it's true that Big Sam has enquired about Shevchenko on loan?

Man U are weaker, Arsenal still rely on kids, Chelsea are obviously on the down side of the hill and Liverpool are hard up and about to lose their most influential player... It's a very good time to be Man City and spending money when your rivals are afraid.
Darwen End Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 There can be no excuses from Hughes next season.
nicko Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 There can be no excuses from Hughes next season. Agree totally.

blue/white Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Gerrard or Torres? And don't say Alonso, he isn't as influential as those two. nope... Mascherano.
Iceman Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Man U are weaker, Arsenal still rely on kids, Chelsea are obviously on the down side of the hill and Liverpool are hard up and about to lose their most influential player... It's a very good time to be Man City and spending money when your rivals are afraid. So its all about the money, no longer about the prestige of playing champions league. City might have the money, but United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea still have the pulling power.

Dont you agree Mr Nixon? and if uncle jack hadnt bankrolled us icers i dread to think were we would be.I think money talks at the end of the day, look at barry he could have opted for cl @ liverpoo but he opted for wongalonga ,tevez too and looking like terry maybe.
tcj_jones Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I don't think that Hughes would be under-achieving if City came fifth next season. His squad isn't as good as any of those in the top four - not yet anyway. The season after, however, is another story. In regard to the previous posts, I think it is a mixture of the two. Obviously money talks, but so does Champions League. The money will gradually help bridge that gap and then, on virtue of being in Europe, they'll be able to attract the world's top names.
Darwen End Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Gerrard or Torres? And don't say Alonso, he isn't as influential as those two. Sorry but I dont think you watch Liverpool much mate. Alonso was one of our best players last season, if not, the best. Don't think there's anyone better who can pass the ball like him. I think if we keep hold of Xabi and Masch, the league title is ours, for sure.
modes98 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I would think it is a little bit of gamesmanship mixed in with reality. Considering the about of questions we put out about players it would not be suprising if 3 of them were still ongoing, if not a bit slow in negotiations.
ABBEY Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 So its all about the money, no longer about the prestige of playing champions league. City might have the money, but United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea still have the pulling power. thats why barry went to city (liverpool) tevez (utd) and possibly terry (chelsea) and adbadddbayootrrrrr(arse) possibly.
