Gerrard or Torres?

And don't say Alonso, he isn't as influential as those two.

Alonso is their most influential player. He runs the team. Gerrard is the attacking flair, Torres the goalscorer when he is fit.

Sorry but I dont think you watch Liverpool much mate. Alonso was one of our best players last season, if not, the best. Don't think there's anyone better who can pass the ball like him. I think if we keep hold of Xabi and Masch, the league title is ours, for sure.

I agree that Alonso is a fantastic player, though not on quite the same level as Gerrard or Torres.

However, does it not undermine your confidence in Benitez that he was supposedl, not just willing, but pushing the sale of Alonso in order fund a move for Barry, an undeniably inferior player (last season this is)?

I can understand why alot of fans who support other Clubs mention Gerrard and Torres, they play well together and score more often. But to us Xabi is very very important, especially as Rafa likes to have 2 holding midfielders, Xabi has mastered that position. He is like and unsung hero, bit like Makelele.

Nope not at all. We trust Rafa no matter what he does. If Rafa thought letting Xabi go for Barry was a good move for us, then we have to trust him. To be honest it was a good thing, Xabi really improved last season, think that was due to all the Barry saga, upped his game.

I have to say, I find your unfaltering faith in Rafa somewhat perplexing. His record in the Champions League is excellent, but I just don't feel as though he's achieved an awful lot domestically.

Read my mind tcj - was just going to say that. The way he threw away the league title this year and has one of the most unbalanced squads (albeit with an exceptional first 11) despite spending loads of dosh are just two recent examples of how his european nous is covering up his failures.

Rafa is one of us. We love him. We're getting stronger and stronger each season. Think last season showed that.

I think you should take a look at Fergies first 5-6 years in charge at United and then compare them to Rafa's.

We are pretty confident, the next league title we win, WILL be under Rafa.

Nicko, who will you be having a little flutter on next season? I can see all the City fans putting cash on their team. If Benitez can keep his players together and the unite, i'd quite fancy them personally.

I'm hoping Martin gets his cheque book out very quickly, as we are as unsettled as the boys on this excellent forum !!

Dundee for the Scottish First Division, sadly, is the only good bet on the horizon.

Plus Burnley finishing the best of the three promoted teams.

Get a double and pay for your holidays.

Unlike Rovers, Liverpool are not going to break their Premier League title duck.

Chelsea will be much stronger especially as it now seems likely Mascherano and Alonso are both going to be history.

It is going to be an almighty scrap between City and the Mancs though this season.

Personally I dont understand the signing of Tevez by City.

He needs a player that can create for him, at United he had both Ronaldo and Rooney. At City he going to have to rely on Robinhood and Ireland with inputs of Wright-Phillips and Petrov, plus RSC, plus Bellamy, plus whoever else...

Robinood is to much of an ego to be laying the ball off for the likes of Tevez and RSC as he needs to be the main man. I cant see the likes of Bellamy or Petrov settling for bit parts and I most certainly dont see Ireland and W-Phillips settling for even lesser bit parts.

The ego's City have accumulated is outstanding to say the least, it is going to be fun watching them gel, if they can of course.

Thats about 35 first team players they have accumulated now. The end of the youth and academy production line at City, its all about attracting the biggest stars.

Rovers can be one of the teams to benfeit in more ways than one from City's emulation as a spending power.

Personally I do understand it - with all the flair players they are accumalating - you need somebody to do the donkey work. Tevez does the work of two forwards - a forward line of Robinho / Santa / Tevez would suit most clubs.

I would be truly amazed if Dingles got into Europe with that squad, remember, Blacke, Jordan and Caldwell all had unsuccessful cracks at the prem before and the new lads will take time to adjust and they may not have that time!!

I am pretty certain that City are going 4-3-3 formation wise. If we accept those 3 up front then how do they play the other midfielders or get them into a team ?

Barry will play leaving 2 slots for midfield. Kompany and de Jong will almost certainly be their midfield leaving no slots for petrov, wrighty phillips, bellamy and the whole host of stars. it just doesnt work.

Even if Tevez does a little running around where is the creativity for two forwards ?

Is he a back up for RSC and Robinhood ? Cant see him or any of the other two being happy on the bench even if they earn top dollar.

Even allowing for a change of formation to say 4-4-1-1 it still doesnt work, neither does 4-4-2, neither does 4-1-3-1.

Its only my view but it should be entertaining, they can score lots of goals but by hell will they be wide open at the back and through the middle.
