Yeah grew up here and still has family here. I think he started to get himself in to a bit of trouble when he was a young lad and his father gave him the choice - a job or take football serious, which he chose the latter. His brother has represented Australia.

A shame really, if he was playing now with the football federation setup he would have scored all those goals in the green and gold instead of the blue.

Simunic, Seric, Didulica, Bouzanis...*sigh* :(

Everyone knows he is about 36 though right? Despite making bugger all appearances in the last 4 years he still seems to hit a goal every four games. 10 goals a season for a freebie? Trials with Galaxy, PAOK, Flamengo and Celtic and we are looking to sign.

"Aussie Chris", would have had him in his prime, but not now.

I know he's a free, but will it do much for us.

Can't see it myself.

He played out of the Marconi club as a youngster and was a good show and why wouldn't he want to make it in Europe.

He used to own a restaurant in Sydney, not sure if that's the case, and yes, Border was his hero.

how does he rate against jacobsen?

and not in terms of potential, just as in for next season who would you rather have?

i'm not digging for anything here, just interested as i've never seen eckersley play and if we should have signed him instead of jacobsen that would be a shame. saying which the last young right back we had was a flop.

Jacobsen is a steady if unspectacular right back who has not played much for the past couple of years. OK on a free, but I thought you could do better. Maybe there is still time...

Eckersley is a gamble because he is young, but he has been brought up at one of the best clubs going and is a good player and strong character. Not many stand up to Sir Furious and walk out of their contract.

Neither are guaranteed to be successes, but I think Coyley has chosen brilliantly within his budget.

I was going to mention 'sell-on value' here, but I better not...

Funny how when there are real stories going on every day for a consistant period (City signing a player a day) how the press stop making up page fillers. You know, the old ''Blackburn are keeping tabs on....''

Alan, surely all those plusses could have also been stated in the Simpson case. He had been rated highly at United but looked completely out of his depth at first team level.

Exactly what I thought - and wasnt Simpson ahead of this lad prior to last season??

Taken from BBC Sport -

Aston Villa are aiming to complete a £24m double move for Tottenham striker Darren Bent (12) and Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing (12) this week.

Newcastle defender Habib Beye has insisted he must leave the club in order to save his career - Blackburn are believed to be among those interested in signing him.

Now don't laugh BUT

Beckham on loan...

Reckon it would cost us a few million but i think we'd make that and more in shirt and sponsership deals...

Reckon he wants out at LA after the interview on the bbc website.

Plus some decent service for the new striker.

Burnley's team is still looking lightweight - they need a proper goalscorer or they may aswell kiss goodbye to the premier league now.

Hughsey, If you want a bet on that, let me know in the next day or so.

I'd never bet on Bumley going down, not with their manager or their team, as crook as it looks.

Il be waiting until the end of the transfer window before I put my bets on mate.

If they dont sign a goalscorer then il be backing them to go back to where they belong.

beckham on loan isnt a bad shout, he is in the paper today saying he wants a return to the Prem.

Get on the case Sam....

Would it be cynical to think he might be looking for a slice of Man City's fortunes?

Simpson was a good player at Man U but could not make the step up. He was also a bit 'big-time' and had probably been there too long.

Eckersley is a different animal altogether.

Just hearing your chief scout Barry Whitbread has left...no further details...

Interesting.

Whats your opinion of Barry Whitbread?

There have been mixed views by the regulars at Brockhall. Some rate him with his Liverpool connections but others tie him in with the Ince era.

If that is the case, only a year service and I guess Sam is trying to get his people in:

On 12 July 2008, he was appointed chief Footballing scout at Blackburn Rovers FC.

All I can say about the guy is that he was a worker. I saw him at a lot of games and heard of many long trips he was making.

I don't think this is a sacking, by any means.
