Now don't laugh BUT

Beckham on loan...

Reckon it would cost us a few million but i think we'd make that and more in shirt and sponsership deals...

Reckon he wants out at LA after the interview on the bbc website.

Plus some decent service for the new striker.

I think you are allowed to dream - sadly reality is another thing.

Would it be cynical to think he might be looking for a slice of Man City's fortunes?

No it wouldn't - those with cash are those who always want more. it surprises us mere mortals who have to exist on around average and in some cases well below average but nobody ever has "enough"

Hughsey, If you want a bet on that, let me know in the next day or so.

I'd never bet on Bumley going down, not with their manager or their team, as crook as it looks.

They have 23 players who have made 197 Premier League between them (about the same as Brett Emerton), most for clubs who finished in the bottom 5. Of the 7 with experience, they have been relegated 6 times.

The only players with other top league experience were in Scotland, hardly a top league. John Millar and Lee Makel did quite well there as I remember.

Can you name a Burnley player who is "good"? The newly signed Tyrone Mears perhaps, part of the worse Premier League team ever?

How many times have you seen all three to make that comparison?

Eckersley is a better defender than the other two.

If he is anything like as good as my all time favourite left back Bill Eckersley he will be a good un and I will be jealous of Burnley getting him. He has my respect for walking out on Manu.

Not disagreeing with you PH, but there'll always be a team that's really bad and they'll stay up.

I suppose it's just about luck on the day.

Jacobsen is a steady if unspectacular right back who has not played much for the past couple of years. OK on a free, but I thought you could do better. Maybe there is still time.

I was going to mention 'sell-on value' here, but I better not...

Hardly relevant for a freebie is it Alan?

Well, you brought the subject up...

Rovers would take ANY striker right now. Re-sale value means nothing in that search.

It's hard enough getting a top-level striker without adding that restriction to it. Like I said two weeks and about a dozen inquiries ago.

Newcastle

Coventry

Sheff Wed

Notts Forrest

Leeds Utd

:P

They will finish rock bottom.

That was quite good.

For you.

Make it ten Premier League 'powers.'

Looks like Vieri has made a big impression on Warnock:

http://goal.com/en/news/9/england/2009/07/...lackburn-rovers

"Vieri has done very well. He is a fantastic player and his reputation is massive. He has been fantastic, he has shown he is a top player and a top man as well."

"He has gelled with the lads very quickly, we have made him feel right at home, and we are looking forward to seeing him again next week."

“He proved last week at the training camp, he has got the ability to finish out of nowhere and he is a very strong player and very awkward to play against. Hopefully he could be a good addition to the squad."

“I don’t think he is too old to play in the Premier League at all,” he said."

“Vieri will follow on to the next session away, which starts on Wednesday. He will join up with us then, then he will join up with us back here."

RVR, Vieri is too old, too past it to make an impact.

If the report you put up is right, he's got to be on ritalin.

Well, you brought the subject up...

And you still like to make smart arse remarks about it particularly when it is irrelevant as in this case.

In the case of Davies and any other big money purchase in his age group it has to be taken into account with the state our finances and if you would only admit it you know it too.

Then he won't take any striker as you said earlier.

Perhaps that was wishful thinking, posted with your Bumley hat on :P

Sam had a short list of about a dozen - maybe more names - that he has gone through in the past week. He would have taken 'any' of them and would not have considered the re-sale value factor in this case.

Your chairman would obviously consider the re-sale factor too but some of the names that were being pursued had absolutely no re-sale factor in them.

The striker chase is about signing the best available...not putting daft imaginary hurdles in front of yourselves.

Davies at £5 million would have been the ideal signing...balls to re-sale value in his case as he would have paid his way.

Davies at £10 million is nonsensical.

Birmingham, Wolves and maybe Man City are the only teams to have improved their squad so far this season.

I don't think there's going to be much spent although there is 6 weeks left in the window (quite right too).

No panic yet, I wouldn't want us to be buying the first Tom, Dick or Giovanni that comes along.

We need to make sure any that come in make a big contribution.

I think we do need a set piece taker before the season starts. No more Mort or Diouf free kicks and corners please. Carlos was good at this but not much else.

Is Savage available?

Interesting.

Whats your opinion of Barry Whitbread?

There have been mixed views by the regulars at Brockhall. Some rate him with his Liverpool connections but others tie him in with the Ince era.

No reason to stay when we're not buying any of the players he's watching anyway :P

nicko, have you heard any of the valuations on the targets we're pursuing - and do you agree that the prices are too high? (compared to what we received for RSC that is)...or are we being stingy...?

Sam wants a striker to do the job, end of story, re sale value must not be a priority as a player with a good resale value would either cost too much in fee and wages or a complete gamble and we as a club cant really gamble!!

Vieri could have a part to play here as he is a big awkward target man and on a free, would open up the striker chase to that of a pacy type, if thats the case then there may be some re sale value there then, but that cant be a priority at this stage!!

Prices just now are ridiculous. You are going to have to be very inventive...or settle for someone not at the level you want.
