Prices just now are ridiculous. You are going to have to be very inventive...or settle for someone not at the level you want.

Another problem is that a lot of good players can't be bought as they won't qualify for a work permit. Diouf from Molde FK in Norway for example...could be a star in the making :-)

SSN - 11.50 Wigan, Stoke City and Blackburn are reportedly tracking Lens striker Aruna Dindane. Our sources in France claim it is Blackburn that hold the strongest interest.

Beat me to it B)

I would like if Dindane came in I think.

Sam wants a striker to do the job, end of story, re sale value must not be a priority as a player with a good resale value would either cost too much in fee and wages or a complete gamble and we as a club cant really gamble!!

Vieri could have a part to play here as he is a big awkward target man and on a free, would open up the striker chase to that of a pacy type, if thats the case then there may be some re sale value there then, but that cant be a priority at this stage!!

Yeah, it's not like we took a gamble on Bentley or Santa Cruz. Hughes was able to find gems in the market who increased in market value, Sam should be looking to do the same. It's just a integral part of the club's survival. We're a great prospect for obscure/wayward players who want to further their careers. We're not a club who can afford to pay £5-10m on Kevin Davies types.

Try hopping out of Nicko's pocket once in awhile, Kelbo. ^_^

Apparently this says we are in for Marek Mintal.

Sweet if true, probably my happiest signing since Shearer if so.

Three-club rule alert.

Dindane was unfit for much of last season, watched by several and nobody moved for him. You have to be able to do better than that...hopefully.

Seems quite old though - 31?

Back of the net. Exactly right. If people think we are in such a dire financial situation now, imagine what it would have been like if we hadn't sold those two.

Nicko is enjoying cajoling Rovers fans into saying they want Davies back, something that a logically thinking Blackburn fan wouldn't say. :)

I'm dying to hear your reaction to the striker you end up signing...

I'm sure Bob Fleming can translate that...

Birmingham, Wolves and maybe Man City are the only teams to have improved their squad so far this season.

I don't think there's going to be much spent although there is 6 weeks left in the window (quite right too).

I think we do need a set piece taker before the season starts. No more Mort or Diouf free kicks and corners please. Carlos was good at this but not much else.

For Set pieces - I think we will either see the old Gamst on these, or maybe Emerton (Scored a nice one at Villa)

As for Strengthening - Id add into that list Burnley & Liverpool.

RVR, Vieri is too old, too past it to make an impact.

If the report you put up is right, he's got to be on ritalin.

I think I would rather believe a report from the people who have been working with him for the past week (or whatever it is) than your 'opinion' that he's too old and past it Dave :P

Rovers would take ANY striker right now. Re-sale value means nothing in that search.

That was quite good.

For you.

I hope that's not true, otherwise a bid will be in for Zamora next!

Why thank you, I'm here all week.

Your chairman would obviously consider the re-sale factor too but some of the names that were being pursued had absolutely no re-sale factor in them.

The striker chase is about signing the best available...not putting daft imaginary hurdles in front of yourselves.

The Chairman holds the best interests of the club at heart. The best interests aren't signing a striker over 30 as our major replacement for Rocky. If Davies came in as an also rand to fight with Benni and Jason then fair enough, but not at that price.

Janko at a million more is a better move IMO, even without premiership experience. Even Birmingham have taken a punt on a striker, saying he'll either be the next big thing or an average striker. A good striker will always score goals, no matter what league.

I have heard really good things about Ekersley, and bloomin Erani never shut up about him at one point on talksport! I have a bad feeling that he is going to be a great signing for Burnley. I hope I am wrong. Why didn't Coyle go to Celtic *grumble*.

On re-sale value...I don't think we should put it as a 'hurdle' but if there was two players, one at 30+ and one at below 30, and they had similar abilities, then it is obviously important for us to pick the one with re-sale value. There is no harm in trying to find the latter one. You youself Nicko have admitted that JW will be looking at that, which shows that it is one of many criteria that we would like to fill. So, in my opinion, there is no need to continuously bring it up. If however, we don't find that striker with re-sale value, or that player is too expensive/doesn't want to join us etc etc etc, then at that point you re-evaluate your 'ideal' criteria...just like dating really :D .

Id say we are well and truly into a disappointing window which has put us in the current state where we seem to be thinking that we are one striker short for the squad, even though we would need at least two of them, and not to mention a quality midfielder.

Please explain where you get that from.

We have Vieri on Trail as an option

We have set up a loan deal for Di Santo

AND Sam is willing to spend his entire budget on another striker.

Is that not 3 more strikers? + Holiette?

In general terms, yes, you look at re-sale value.

But when you are in a pig of a market like it is just now, you don't.

And, you aren't right now.

Aye, which is why I said 'If however, we don't find that striker with re-sale value, or that player is too expensive/doesn't want to join us etc etc etc, then at that point you re-evaluate your 'ideal' criteria...just like dating really :D '
