I think Sam knows exactly who he wants...and in what order.

There is a reason for the recent delay, but I don't want to go into it.

Have they broken the piggy bank and are counting the coins, Nicko?

btw: This Tevez/Citeh business is giving me great stomach pains. I love Carlitos and he's a compatriot, but i have a eerie feeling that he's barreling headlong into a major knee injury... the kharma, the upcoming World cup finals, his playing style.

I don't wish it upon anyone, but it's just this feeling of impending doom (perhaps it's just Maradona's qualification failure, who knows?)

^_^

I got some pretty specific info on this early today but I have not had it from a second source, which I usually prefer in such cases.

If I say whether he is good/bad/whatever then it gives you a clue and builds hopes/puts you on Bridgend watch. Likewise any clues on if he has been mentioned before...although every striker with a pulse has been linked here lately.

So until I get the second lead I want then let's just leave it at that.

I see your point, but Bruce left and Coyley didn't. So that is a plus for Burnley compared to Bolton. Plus the Premier League is much weaker now than it was then.

i don`t agree the premier league is weaker now at all, but that`s my view. this ain`t an argument nicko in case your getting that impression, just a disagreement on one or two points. hope you don`t think i`m being a tit, and i`ll leave it there.

From a throwaway comment by Nicko earlier today about a potential targets I fear the worst on this one.

I just hope its not Zigic.

Surely it's Luca Toni?

Looks like it's worked ^_^

Sam wants a striker to do the job, end of story, re sale value must not be a priority as a player with a good resale value would either cost too much in fee and wages or a complete gamble and we as a club cant really gamble!!

Vieri could have a part to play here as he is a big awkward target man and on a free, would open up the striker chase to that of a pacy type, if thats the case then there may be some re sale value there then, but that cant be a priority at this stage!!

You are right. Sam will take any short term solution he can get and Davies 'costs to much' anyway resale value or not. Chances are he will have moved on when his man is knackered and there is no money to replace him. I hopefully will still be a season ticket holder and as such throwing short term money down the drain concerns me. It should concern JW too.

Beat me to it Presty. Agree, Martinez has done a superb job.

Head to head, Martinez also has the upper hand having beaten Coyle's dingles at turd moor 2-0 this year and a 1-1 draw at the Liberty.

I think Martinez will do well with Wigan and will imo finish around mid table this season by playing the Roberto style of football.

I know it's not going to happen but I would ###### myself it it did turn out to be him after the number of times people have brought him up. (Not saying you, I know you're joking too.)

Let's push the boat out a little more shall we, I reckon the Eto'l deal to Citeh fell through because he's Rovers bound, Barce said he can go for free to stop him going to Citeh and we're giving him the whole 15m on a one year deal.

That's the story right there nicko, write it! ;)

Positive for Coyle and his lot that they can attract promising talent on low wages. (Unfortunately) Not for football as a whole that mediocre players are still moving for big transfers and big wages.

Would you rather have five up-and-coming, well-paid players or one over-priced, over-paid and over-rated one?

I don't even think it's a comparison.

I think Rovers could do a lot worse than look at Croatia and Slovania, some good players over there and mainly untapped in the English scene.

Due to their style of play, they are quite suited to the premiership and English football in general, thats where I would look if I was taking a caculated gamble on a player.

Exactly, you'd obviously go for the up and coming ones, like I said it's good what Coyle is doing even if it is at that lot, fairplay to him, but seeing mediocre players like Doyle moving for 6m+ and on wages 5 times as much as fellow premiership newcomers just shows the inflated market at the moment which surely isn't a good thing.

agree with that, but you can`t fill your team with inexperience and compete at premier league level. i think they are looking at building for the future on a championship budget with players they could feasibly keep in the event of relegation, and if they stay up it`s an enormous bonus for them. it is possible, but it`ll be very tough.

Correct. It really is a bad market at the moment for the middle-range clubs.

On the way to Sheffield United

Impressed.

Does the new mystery strikers name rhyme with ''Insane'' ?? (if its pronounced that way)
