gazsimm Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I don't think anyone is ever destined for Villa...although it does sometimes feel like a lifetime between them showing an interest and doing a deal. Bentley is an option, so is Tuncay - and several others. O'Neill has money and may finally get round to spending it. But don't hold your breath. Find the Downing story odd. How does he pass a medical? Two solid contacts have given me one name...trouble is a third solid contact says it is another. I think the truth is that BOTH are the options and it will come down to who sells at the right price. Pretty sure who the top choice is now, but I would prefer contact to be made with his club. This is a major move for yourselves. I would rather have the whole picture, but that could happen quite soon. is it a forward you have mentioned before this summer Nicko or is it a new target?

T4E Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Nicko - Care to venture an opinion on the guy you believe to be first choice? Good move or bad? How do you rate their chances of making an impact in the Prem?
daveoftherovers Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Good news guys and gals, It looks as though Zamora is going to Hull thankfully - http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5434491,00.html I would be rather deluded if we were paying 5 million for him, as i rate him as average to below average and he is no better than what we already have. Agreed!!! "When you sit in Row Z and the ball hit's your head, that's Zamora..."
LeChuck Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I'm terrified that it's Benjani or Davies. I think if it's not either of those two I'll be relieved and therefore probably quite content.
daveoftherovers Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 A little unfair. Sam had classy midfielders at Bolton i.e. Jay-Jay and Djorkaeff Agreed, he had FMJ as well though didn't he?
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Fat Michael Jackson, aka Campo. I have no idea how I knew that either.
mark1875 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 nicko im afraid i cant stop here all day waiting for these names, but i just know that as soon as i leave this site you will name them = just my luck removed, I wouldn't even go there
Saahil Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Hey Nicko. I understand you cant mention the names but can you tell us if he is foreign or English as in where does he play, and also will it take our whole budget? And if you feel to share your thoughts on his quality... :-)
The Prof. Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Good news guys and gals, It looks as though Zamora is going to Hull thankfully - http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5434491,00.html I would be rather deluded if we were paying 5 million for him, as i rate him as average to below average and he is no better than what we already have. Nicko - any news on a second confirmation of the striker`s name ? - is he foreign or home based by the way, and if you don`t get confirmation, will you share anyway as an afterthought ? I am still of the opinion that Ken Jones would be a good signing for rovers and would be happy to see that as the business done. Hull are looking more and mor elike the next burn out team- all money gone and a squad on zillions worth zilch.
joey_big_nose Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 No Emerton. Would have him ahead of Jakobsen at rb, or either Warnock or Grella in cm. Not sure how you can miss him out as when not injured he's been arguably our best player over the last 2 years. One of the first names on the teamsheet imo. Edit - agree with Taggart on all of that. I do agree with that. But he is in a strange position in that we have signed a specialist right back who is supposed to be very good, and he is a bit of 'head down' player for central midfield. Great at carrying the ball forward but not too good at picking a pass. Actually if i was going to prefer him to someone in the middle it would be Dunn I think. Warnock is great at covering ground, getting tackles in, getting forward and seems to be able to chip in with goals. I would have him above any of our 'proper' midfielders at minute. A real Savage replacement. Grella is pretty poor tbh, but we need someone to sit in front of the defence and spread the ball. Post Tugay he is the only guy in the squad who can do that. Maybe Reid could, but he is more of a 'carrier' too. I think a huge part of our season hinges on Grella catching the pace of the league or, failign that, N'Zonzi or Reid stepping up to the plate. Or we sign someone.
nicko Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 I don't want to give any more clues out on the names I think it has come down to...trying hard to crack this...hopeful.

Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Is this still the "may break transfer record" saga?
Lurid Coat Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Not that this is related to Rovers, but aren't both Tyrone Mears and Eckersley right backs? Why would Coyle splash the cash on two decent right backs when there are other areas that badly need strengthening?
joey_big_nose Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Is this still the "may break transfer record" saga? Yes
Ricky Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Gazsimm, what is the point of asking Nicko if it's a new target or not when in his previous post he's just said he doesn't want to give out any more clues.

How does he pass a medical? Correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't Wayne Roovey pass his medical with a broken metartasal/bone?

Id say that the fact Nicko says Major, wouldnt be relevant to any of the 2 names you mentioned - or at least im hoping it isnt!!
saviola Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 nicko, would bernard mendy been a better option than jacobsen, im sure he was at bolton with sam, and he looked good when i saw him last year, likes to get forward etc got plenty of energy, just a thought!
