Watch spurs dive in for jones, every player we after down the years redknapp goes in for, no matter what club he's at !!

Well, on the Villa forums, we absolutely slate Spurs - such an over-rated club, plus they generally play in the same area we do (apart from abroad - Martin O'Neill doesn't do abroad!! haha).

Sounds like you'd like him at Rovers? Must admit, if i was a Rovers fan, i'd be wanting him. I don't know too much about Zigic, so i can't comment on him. I think Sam has quite a good record with strikers in his previous stints as a Manager, so i don't think he'll be blindly signing him, he'll have judged him over a period of time. Hopefully, if Benny gets his scoring boots on, you can get a good start :)

I've not seen enough of zigic to judge him. He fits the role we need, he's the right age Nd hopefully the right price. Valencia are in financial problems so we should be able to push the price down. If he comes in for Round the 5m mark I'd be ok with it. If it's nearer the 8m then it's bad business.

The only other name getting a serious mention right now is Kenwyne Jones, But I think if Zigic's price is right - in the £6 to 7 million range - that he should be on his way soon.

What`s the K.Jones price bracket Nicko ? i would have thought this would have been fairly similar.

Everyone in the know - what`s Zigic`s finishing and pace like (for a big guy) ?

ah well - if it is Zigic he isn't the most exciting option but I see similarities in him and our previous foreign striker buys in that he seems to have some potential that hasnt been fully realised. If we get a further £6m+ to improve the midfield then I'll be satisfied.

He's 6' 7".

No one that tall can run and play football. Some can run - but none can play football. He can't run.

I'm not even sure this tale will get much in the papers tomorrow, with the Open and the cricket, but for what it's worth...

As far as I know the number one target is now Nikola Zigic...Sam has been looking at him for a while and he is the most available striker in the price range. He is the man most likely to arrive as we speak and I believe something will move shortly.

Not sure what to think about that, everytime i've seen him play he looks a right donkey. Have to say I've been very disappointed with the quality of forwards we have been linked to this window, i had higher hopes than this when the Roque sale went through. Jones, Davies, Zigic some right donkey's in there.

Nicko, If we get him for £7-8 million what will the other £5-6 million get spent on assuming we had £13 million to spent?

You would hope so. At least that would be the plan. Remember Di Santo is a 'wages only' signing, so that should not take much out of the budget.

Mkhelele.

It's not funny Iceman.

Meanwhile...

You just knew you would get that reaction didn't you. I mean come on Nicko, the guy, from the couple of games I've seen him play, is downright poor.

You've seen him twice den? On the tele? Well he must be crap then but then that's twice more than me. There goes the "open mind" then. What does Sam know eh?

Just seen Robbie Fowler on SSN scoring against Wolves - he's actually lost weight!

You saved yourself, from at least, by suggesting Kevin Davies first!

Zigic would be a massive relief, and at £6-7 million I'd guess he wouldn't be the only signing. If we could another another good attacker with the rest of the money it could be a good move.

Kevin Davies was the manager's first choice.

Four weeks on, with no arrival yet, I think that has been proved by the absence of anyone else in that time-frame.

I can see we are going for the tallest team in the league.

Deploying tactic head tennis : Robinson with a high pass to Samba who heads it to N'zonzi who heads on to Zigic who falls over and breaks his long, sticky legs.

Stop talking about Davies. He is NOT joining. It would be a recipe for disaster. You talk about systems like people are robots. What about all the bad memories that both he and the fans would obviously have? What if he misses a sitter on his debut? The crowd would be after his blood.

If he was to join, in my opinion, it would be the beginning of the end of Sam's tenure at BRFC.

The only person who would benefit from signing Davies would be Andrews as he no longer would be public enemy number one.

If you dont speak of systems you are not organised as a team, ok forget systems, we'll go down the Ince route shall we?

No Brain, no idea, no system = Failure!!

Davies would fit into the style of play the manager wants, forget the previous Davies, out of what is available,he is probably the best option without taking gambles!1

Zigic?? plays in a decent league, good club, so why will they sell him???

More importantly, why have no other Spanish clubs come in for him?

having said that, he could fit into Sams system!! sorry for that, but that is correct!!

This is Blackburn Rovers you are talking about here. Wouldn't surprise me if the budget is far lower than people think and Sam is about to blow it all on Zigic...

Just looking at his Wiki page, is it true Valencia signed him for €19m less than two years ago?

And his scoring record seems decent enough, 172 in 263 games. Ok so its not all been in the highest standard of football but 25 in 66 in Spain isn't bad. Certainly better than the 31 in 155 that our last striker had in Germany.

Watched him in particular as he was linked with us at the time. He's a kind of a thin John O'mara. :D

A tad disappointed to see Zigic as first choice, but he's got a decent goalscoring record at least. Only one for Valencia, but a decent 14 for Santander last season on loan, and 11 the season before joining Valencia. He's looked nothing short of shocking the very few games I've seen him for Serbia, but if Sam thinks he's the man.... Don't think his technique is all that, but I really haven't seen him often enough - and certainly not while on-form - to judge.

The price is obviously a plus, because it means we can get a creative midfielder and Di Santo (plus one?).

If Zigic signs, I really hope the money left will bring in a player with a bit of pace. According to Wikipedia, he connected well with the then ageing Pedro Munitis at Santander, a clever, quick striker.

Santa Cruz produced a 100% joyful reaction from me, Zigic doesn't do that now - but I remember thinking it would be cool to sign him at that point.

Nicko, is there any chance Valencia would agree on a loan with a view to make it permament or do they want to cash in now?

Why is (almost) everyone so negative to Zigic?

Although I can't seem to remember having seeing him played, I think his goals to game stats look fine (with the exception of his Valencia games) according to wiki.

Years Club App (Gls)*

1998–2001 Bačka Topola 76 68

2001–2002 Mornar Bar 23 15

2002 Kolubara Lazarevac 8 3

2003 Spartak Subotica 11 14

2003–2006 Red Star Belgrade 79 47

2006–2007 Racing Santander 32 11

2007– Valencia CF 15 1

2009 → Racing Santander (loan) 19 13

No PL experience of course, but he seems to know where the goal is

Can you imagine Big Sam singing aloud right now in his stripy, pyjama shirt with Neil McDonald beside him holding hairbrushes as microphones -

I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want,

So tell me what you want, what you really really want,

I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really

really really wanna Zigiczig ha

or maybe that's just me

Valencia want cash and will probably get it. I believe they are already leaking 'interest' from other clubs. He did quite well on loan at Racing Santander but that has basically increased his value and caused a little bit of interest.
