Rover down South Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I can see we are going for the tallest team in the league. Deploying tactic head tennis : Robinson with a high pass to Samba who heads it to N'zonzi, while Christian uses his weight to cause a nuisance who heads on to Zigic who finishes with his head. Simples! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...ghs-Rovers.html
brian_gallagher85 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I don't mind either way if we sign Zigic or not, but I would like to draw the doubters attention to his goals per game ratio be we start "throwing rotten fruit" Zigic goal per game ratio = 0.38 goals a game RSC goals per game ratio - 0.26 goals a game
bob fleming Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Just looking at his Wiki page, is it true Valencia signed him for €19m less than two years ago? And his scoring record seems decent enough, 172 in 263 games. Ok so its not all been in the highest standard of football but 25 in 66 in Spain isn't bad. Certainly better than the 31 in 155 that our last striker had in Germany. We'll have less of that optimistic talk around here Ant - you'll be briefly happy next minute and we can't have that. Remember - everything Rovers ever do ends in abject disaster - Ince, the Black Crown Paints logo, the League Cup Win, The Premier League Title, Keith Andrews etc etc etc Den! A thin John O'Mara! Before my time mate but perhaps if he had lost some weight? Then again. We shall see. He hasn't even signed yet.
Backroom Tom Posted July 15, 2009 Backroom Posted July 15, 2009 One more thing to add on the matter, if we sign Zigic and di Santo i would hope the rest of the money goes on a dead ball specialist who can pick out a pass. The lack of pace is still a worry
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Zigic is a little unorthodox and in no way a "sexy" footballer, but he's brilliant with his head, and he has acceptable technique for such a big man. Under 8m, I would be happy, provided we also signed a midfielder and/or another striker of real quality.

Tell me the league/s that the majority of these goals were scored in please Yuguslovia and i havent a clue were aik topola is but it aint spain dont tell me that goals is goals and goal scorers will score werever shades of paul ince and rob the nob fowler So think again any other basketball players being linked
blue and whites Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 i've seen zigic live one time, when he came on as a sub against rosenborg. he was terrible in that match, didn't move at all. they would have done better with a pole in the grass.. but anyway, his scoring record is good as far as i know, and for £6mill he won't be that bad.. all though i was hoping for a striker which would excite me.. i would have been more excited if we got K. Jones. but getting in a striker as soon as possible is the right thing to do know, so he can gel in with the rest of the team.. then we still have some time to bring in a skillful midfielder who can provide us with som goals next season.
herbergeehh Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Santa Cruz is a great player overall, goals to games isn't really a 100% fair comparison. Doesn't matter what we think in any case, we'll see how he does if he gets here.
The Rover of Finland Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Valencia want cash and will probably get it. I believe they are already leaking 'interest' from other clubs. He did quite well on loan at Racing Santander but that has basically increased his value and caused a little bit of interest. Would leaking help them raise his price? After all he´s been on sale whole summer and didn´t they try to sell him last summer too? Anything under £7m would be good for us and maybe leave a kitty for more buys. I´d sell Grella or Andrews for £3m. Also Khiza and Gally and suddenly we could have £10m to use creative midfielder. Not gonna happend but just a thought.

BuckyRover Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Just like Roque at Bayern. I'm prepared to give him a chance because he is not Kevin Davies
Antgrad Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Tell me the league/s that the majority of these goals were scored in please Last season he scored 13 times in 19 games for a team that finished twelfth in the Spanish League. Remember Spain? That's right the ones with both the European Champions at club and national level. I hate it when we sign guys that can put the ball in the back of the net don't you?
den Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Right, I've calmed down and had time to think. We could be onto something here. He's got a tremendous scoring record - so all we need to do is get him scoring in England - right? Maybe a bit of speed training and ball practice is all he needs? Trouble is he's even taller than I thought. Wiki have him down, not as 6' 7", but 6' 7" and a half! You know, getting up to that kind of altitude makes it incredibly difficult to see the ground. There again, does that really matter? Who knows. Anyhow, I'll be there...........Ziggy, Ziggy, Ziggy, Oi Oi Oi.
Antgrad Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 We'll have less of that optimistic talk around here Ant Noted, Bob.
Plastic Head Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 He's 6' 7". No one that tall can run and play football. We might not want to .... Just head the ball and elbow people.

I can tell you one thing, if we have Zigic, Di Santo, Samba and N'Zonzi in our team and we don't score a decent amount from set pieces then some questions need to be answered lol.
The Rover of Finland Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Double chance to score from corners. Big Chris and Big Nick. Somebody else than Gamst give corners and chance is tribled!
Torgeir Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 He's a donkey but can do a job if we roost the ball up to him. Not too mobile and we really don't have any quick players around him who can feed off him. Sooooo ---> What's the plan, Sam?

Not a chance, it was just that the camera was miles away
Guest bluesue Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 6 foot 7 We wont need to worry about midfield. Ive always been impressed with Robinsons Kicking. English Premiership 2009/2010 Most Assists 32 Paul Robinson Would he get back in england squad probably not How talls crouch Does Cappello Play "Percentage Football"
saxo1man30 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 very happy if we sign zigic. proven international goalscorer with an impressive club goalscoring ratio and the attributes required for sam`s style of game. we needed a foil for benni, who(if zigic does sign) can now concentrate on the skillful aspect of our game upfront and netting goals, while zigic does the muck and bullets stuff. this deal also hopefully would leave funds to spare for other areas of the team that need addressing. This would be the best move i`ve heard of out of all the(realistic) links that have been put forward. yes i`d have loved janko to have been the bargain he looked, but his display against effectively a non-league side tonight suggests he`s flattered to decive last season in the austrian league. just to add, before you have a go at sam, hughes was also interested in zigic in the past prior to us signing roque, but was priced out back then.
T4E Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Watched him in particular as he was linked with us at the time. He's a kind of a thin John O'mara. I remember den. Was either Euro 2004 or WC 2006. Either way I recall you being down on him before he played, then he had a bad game and you crucified him. Every time his name has been mentioned since you've been pretty scathing. Anyway, your most recent post was pretty balanced so hopefully you'll be willing to give him a chance. With the record he's got in the leagues he's played in, at £6m I'd be very happy with him. £6m on a midfielder (anyone any suggestions?) and the last little bit on Di Santo's loan fee and we'll be looking pretty healthy.
bob fleming Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Not a chance, it was just that the camera was miles away Nah . He wasn't and he hasn't! Sue - Capello plays "percentage football" about 80% of the time I think you'll find. The rest of it is just down to being able to play very expensive, generally very good footballers.
