were a better club than this

K jones has potential

Bent Has more to his game (pace)

valencia have been trying to ofload zigic for ages

to be fair; how many times have you actually seen Zigic play to know he has no pace etc?

We bought Roque (who was a target man with little pace) from Bayern and he hadn't played more than 15 games a season for them!

They wanted rid....look how he turned out ;)

3mins 35 seconds...........How good is that header? :D

First thing I thought about when I read the name was this goal against Sweden earlier this year;

Keeper should've done a bit better, but it's yet another example that shows he's not just tall, he can head the ball well.

It's kind of depressing that Chelsea are so firmly hanging on to Terry while we run to sell to the nearest club every time one of our players shows some decent football.

I know the reasons why, but it's just...it's not good.

You saved yourself, from at least, by suggesting Kevin Davies first!

Zigic would be a massive relief, and at £6-7 million I'd guess he wouldn't be the only signing. If we could another another good creative midfielder with the rest of the money it could be a good move.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts, although I differ in where I'd spend the money (see above). A 4th striker shouldn't cost much, either on loan or on the cheap or a freeby. After all they'd be 3rd/4th choice behind Zigic and Benni

I said zigic was the better option....for the price!

Torres is a lot better than zigic and has got more to his game but we'll never afford him!

I'm relatively happy with the potential signing of Zigic. I think he is a type of player that would thrive in the physical Premier League, and he's got a very decent goalscoring record. I'd rather spend £6-7m on him and hopefully have some cash left for a midfielder or two, than splashing our entire budget on Crouch or Bent.

Add in the fact that Sam knows his stuff. Givet was an utter find, and filled a gaping hole in our squad. Sam hasn't let us down in the transfer market yet, so am feeling optimistic about Zigic - if we ever actually sign a striker!

I'm wondering if the air of disappointment is due to the realisation that we'll be employing a similar system to last season (i.e. lump it to the tall forward), as opposed to a reflection of Zigic's talents??

Zigic?? plays in a decent league, good club, so why will they sell him???

MEGA debts.

Last season he scored 13 times in 19 games for a team that finished twelfth in the Spanish League. Remember Spain? That's right the ones with both the European Champions at club and national level.

I hate it when we sign guys that can put the ball in the back of the net don't you?

Spot on mate. He hasnt had a settled period in the Valencia side.

His style would suit the prem, he likes to stay in the box (which is a good thing as ours always go out wide n drop deep) and he is very good in the air. He isnt slow and probably has about the same pace as RSC.

Realistically for the doubters -

Davies - 31 - £10m

Jones - £8m minimum

Crouch - £12m + 70k wages

Bent - £16m + big wages

Zigic - 28 - £6m

We have been watching him since Feb too

Good Goal from Zigic

Apparently Wolfsburg, Monaco & Sunderland are all also being linked with Zigic.

Its also worth noting - Zigic has played 15 times for Valencia - however in 207/8 when he played 12 times, only 3 of them were starts.

He is also 6ft 8, not 7 or 7 1/2.

Blackburn Rovers have been offered Guirane N'Daw, the Nantes and Senegal midfield player.

From the times.

Ive heard he's decent!!!

Funny how I dont know much about African players, but I've heard people say good things about this guy... is he at Nancy... or Nantes, maybe a question for the chaps on here who watch french footy, I've heard he's tall & quite athletic. Not the creative attacking midfielder we are wishing for, possibly more defensive, which makes me think unless he's on for much cheapness, it wont be happening!!!

Lucas Biglia anyone??? says he wants out of anderlecht... while we are on the subject of players from Belgium, Steven Defour is class, as is Axel Witsel, but I fear that the next move any of these guys make will be to a big european side, no harm in the odd day dream though I suppose!!!

is there anyway of judging the liklihood of this deal being concluded....or even better an idea of the timescale, i.e. end of the week?

more than happy with the signing if it happens but i guess there are some hefty wages and seeing as 5m was supposes to come off said wages...are we likely to see benni out the door shortly?

Anything ever likely to happen in the future with that egyptian right winger we'd apparently been looking At since time began...........had a lot of quality in his delivery in that confed cup, don't think we are currently blessed with any players that can hit the byline and stand good balls up regularly.

N'Zonzi - 6ft 3

Samba - 6ft 4

Di Santo - 6ft 4

Zigic - 6ft 8

Didnt Sam say something along the lines of "Its a fact that if your the best attacking team at set-pieces and the best defensive record at set-pieces then that alone will get you in the top 10"??

All tall people are slow?

I can qualify that generally tall people are slow, being 6'6 myself & I get done on the footy field by old chaps with knee braces, I'm in my late 20's, that shouldn't happen.

Allthough as afore mentioned, lots of muscle building & and athletic training would make anyone faster, the majority of sprinters are quite tall. Jason Roberts is from a family of athletes as you can see from his build & his top end speed.

Zigic is unfortunately like myself, tall slim & relatively slow, same as Crouch, but having watched some videos, he looks to have a decent touch & he certainly knows where the goal is, his style would suit the prem more than it does the Spanish league as the Spanish league is slower & more technical, where as we would be looking to get the ball to him early & make him work & as Samba proved last season, if your awkward to deal with & you can keep possesion for long enough for the midfield to get to you & support, the ball will stay in the final 3rd long enough to create a chance or 2. And if Benni can be arsed to get into shape & show some real hunger for it, he will get a shed load off Zigic.

£6m, Janko or Zigic... I'd go for Zigic, but its not my choice... we shall see!!!

that sounds exactly what sam`s idea is, and it`s one i happen to agree with totally. the man is very clever at the game, ok it may not be the most attractive all the time and it won`t get plaudits, but who cares if it gets us in the top echelons of the league again, competing with teams we have no right to be on our budget? the alternative is what west brom have just suffered, and what burnley will suffer this year if they attempt to play kamicaze attacking football in the premier league. indeed we would have suffered too if ince had remained using that kind of naive philosophy at this level.
