CrazyIvan Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Kevin Francis The Re-Incarnation - Zigic Barry Fry The Second - BF Sam May I remind you of something, WE HAVEN'T SIGNED ZIGIC!
madddog Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I think people should take perspective: Compare the strikeforce we could have by the start of August with what we had after the last transfer window NOW McCarthy/Roberts/Zigic/Vieri/Hoillett/Van Heerden + you can add £5/6m on a decent midfielder vs THEN McCarthy/Roberts/A crocked Roque/Emergency strikers (Diouf/Samba) Id say there's a pretty big contrast. right on.
Barney Blue Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Nicko - any truth in this rumour about Bentley being linked to Citeh? (How many midfielders do they want! Nevermind strikers)
Hughesy Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 If we sign Zigic, we will at least have found a replacement for Kuqi. What does he do the swan dive? Awesome Id be happy with Zigic for around £6m with other players coming in as well as him...For a club like ours it is a good signing, a recognised striker with a decent goal scoring record - For us to sign an international striker with top flight and Champions League experience for this type of money I think its a good deal and a few on here should ask themselves realistically who were they expecting Villa, Torres, Eto'o?? Some very good points there mate - who else could we sign with big game experience for £6m?! Bluesue has to either be a dingle or a manic depressive.....Just reading her posts are depressing enough!

den Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I haven't seen Zigic play to be honest, but he doesn't look as bad as some people are making him out to be.

Roversider Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Just a few thoughts, Zigic at the price we can afford is a sensible buy. Players need to be bought for the system you play and I don't buy that 'we want to play sexy football' stuff. It is not unentertaining to win games and there can be some style with positive, direct football. We knew that when Sam arrived we would play percentage football and it is nice to score from set-pieces, something our previous managers (Ince AND Hughes) seemed to forget. In the Premiership those goals are critical. Plus Zigic has a good international record, is 28 with the best years of his career ahead of him and he will cost less than any of the alternatives in England (Davies, Jones and Bent). That leaves us some money to add to the squad. Don't forget that we would have, hopefully, four potentially first choice strikers in McCarthy, Roberts, Di Santo and Zigic plus some further back-up by switching players about and using the youngsters. All critical over a whole season, would you want to swap that with any of our rivals (I exclude the traditional top 6 from that group)? As for the comparisons of John O'Mara, well he did ok whilsdt Tony Field chose to play as a winger but when he got bored and stopped crossing the ball O'Mara didn't get anything. You need to choose a system and stick to it otherwise it is square pegs in round holes. Which is why Derbyshire moved on and there wasn't any chance of Michael Owen coming to Ewood even if he was cheap. Silly prices everywhere make life difficult. I will feel happier when the squad is signed up and we know who will be playing in Blue 'n White but at the moment I am quietly optimistic.
Stevo Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 we had hoillett last year He was out on loan to St.Pauli actually.
super_arran Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 is van Heerden a striker or are you just being poetic we had hoillett last year Van Heerden is an attacking midfielder Hoillett was signed to us last season but couldn't play because he had no work permit so went out on loan. so I guess you were half right on that one
roversfan1 Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 What does he do the swan dive? Awesome If he does God help the groundsman!
Montfort Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 This post is on the using tall target strikers and a direct route as opposed to playing "sexy football" and a passing game through the middle of the park. At the back end of last season when Samda was an obvious target, I thought ironically that the midfield played better. It was as if having one clear option at their disposal, they felt better about trying an alternative when the opportunity arose. I thought the clear threat of Samba also unsettled the opposition defence. They tend to position themselves against the obvious option of a centre to Samba leaving more room elsewhere. I thought the best example of this in action was aginst Portsmouth. I am not sure whether this was wishful thinking on my part but I don't think so. Blackburn seem at their worse when they seem to have no clear plan of what they are going to do to break the opposition down, they then become lacking in confidence and fritter the ball away. With a tall target you have a clear plan A giving room for plan B
Trickstar Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I remember when we where linked to Santa Cruz and all the doom and gloom merchants slated hughes for spending money on a crock striker that had only scored 5 goals a season for the past 5 years at Bayern, then after he had banged in a few goals he was the best thing since sliced bread. The fact is Zigic is a proven striker at the highest level in Spain with a mid division team he has scored goals at international levels against some of the best teams in the world for a Serbian team that are no world beaters and he is available at a price that won't break the bank. IF he does sign I can see him going onto score 15+ goals next season
hi-jaq Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 IF he does sign I can see him going onto score 15+ goals next season 15... is that all!!! He will be a good signing I believe, he has all the right attributes to be a success at Rovers, just hope if he is, he gives us a few seasons & not just one!!!
Parsonblue Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 we had hoillett last year Really? I thought he had spent the past two years in Germany while he qualified for a work permit to play in this country. Not quite the same thing as being a member of the first team squad - which he is this year.
saviola Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Sam said he might have to wait till the end of augast for the right 1 to appear, looks like the right 1 has been finally found Even though davies was sam's first choice i would have thought £5m wouldnt have got him roughly the same price we would be paying for zigic and with that in mind we MIGHT be getting a striker whos more than 4 years younger than davies, someone who will give the defenders just as much if not more trouble than davies does, and a striker who knows where the back of the net is. So overall not that bad heh..
AggyBlue Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I hope he had nothing to do with that headline. Zigic really sang, Screwed up eyes and screwed down hair do, Like some cat from Japan, He can lick 'em by smiling..... Nah, doesn't work. Zigic zig ah it is then. I have two Ziggy T shirts in the wardrobe, in the event we do sign him
modes98 Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Keep the personal spats to PMs and stick to topic please.
LeChuck Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I wonder if we'd have enough money left over to buy Tuncay... That would be absolutely perfect for me. I think we'd have to offload someone though to make room for wages - surely McCarthy must be on a lot? Zigic, Roberts, Di Santo and Tuncay would be brilliant.
alexanders Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I wonder if we'd have enough money left over to buy Tuncay... That would be amazing! One can dream...
