joey_big_nose Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Anyone else rather we went for more def cover.. rather than a midfielder (presuming cash left over from striker purchase)... I just think looking at our defence, we are very short: DEF: 8-9 players (inc 2 youngsters) for 4 places MID: 14-15 players for 4-5 places AT: 5-6 players for 1-2 places I don't think we are short. We have Samba, Nelsen, Zurab, Givet and Jackobsen who can play CB; Warnock, Givet, Olsson who can play LB; Jackobsen, Emerton who can play RB (Reid and Andrews can do a job there). No need to sign anyone in defence I think. Also it looks much stronger as a unit than last year iwth the addition of Givet and Jackobsen.

Nelson! Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 i agree 100% with you nelsen. sunderland are trying to build something big and have the money that means they don`t have to sell. besides, you can keep him for me, i`d be very upset to pay 10m for kenwyne jones. the new didier drogba? totally laughable on the occasions i`ve seen him. Good....I hope everyone at Blackburn FC agree with you, because I'd be gutted if you got him for £10million too I won't try to change anyone's mind, the less people who think their club should sign Jones the better as far as I'm concerned........leave him with us, he's rubbish.
Hughesy Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I probably have opinions on Blackburn players a lot of you would think are strange.....given a few snippets and the odd match per season is al I see. We (according to the club) rebuffed a £20million bid for him from Spurs in January No offence mate, But City told the press they had bid £15m for RSC last January when in fact they had bid just £8m. As for your opinions....go on, it will be interesting. Anyone else rather we went for more def cover.. rather than a midfielder (presuming cash left over from striker purchase)... I just think looking at our defence, we are very short: DEF: 8-9 players (inc 2 youngsters) for 4 places Are you serious?? Left back - Warnock, Ollson, Givet Centre back - Samba, Nelsen, Givet, Zurab, Gunning Right back - Jacobsen, Emerton, Andrews More than enough cover.
Veevs Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 If Zurab is staying then we're fine. We would we need more than 8 or 9? We're not in Europe. I was thinking per position.. and I included Emerton as RB cover in the 9.. Gunning and Olsson also included.. So really we have just 6 proper defenders in total Givet, Samba, Jacob, Zurub, Nelson and Warrnock... Just thinking about the highly unimaginable situation where we had an injury in CD and someone gets suspended.
AggyBlue Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcas...72703-24168082/ I hope this is just a recycled story regarding Alan Smith.
Hughesy Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Just thinking about the highly unimaginable situation where we had an injury in CD and someone gets suspended. Nelsen injured, Givet suspended - still leaves Samba & Zurab - simples
LeChuck Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Just thinking about the highly unimaginable situation where we had an injury in CD and someone gets suspended. Nelsen injured and Samba suspended - Jacobsen, Zurab, Givet, Warnock Jacobsen injured and Warnock suspended - Emerton, Nelsen, Samba, Givet We're going to be operating on a reduced wage budget this year, it would be insanity to try and have more than 8/9 first team defenders.
Majiball Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Nicko, Do you know if any british teams have been sniffing round hernanes in brazil?? Cheers
Hughesy Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcas...72703-24168082/ I hope this is just a recycled story regarding Alan Smith. Stoke City manager Tony Pulis also ran the rule over Smith last month but was put off by the former England international’s wage of £60,000 per week, while Everton have also been in the hunt for the ex-Leeds man in the last 12 months. However, Big Sam, who must cut his cloth accordingly at Ewood Park, may offer to pay a percentage of his salary in a season-long loan deal in order to ease the financial nightmare facing the Magpies Whats wrong with that??
Oklahoma Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 A portuguese newspaper mentions a new approach from Sporting Lisbon to sign Caicedo nut this time it would be on loan. Could we be up for it?
AggyBlue Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Whats wrong with that?? I don't like him, nor do I rate him. I'd rather have Savage back

That squad would be around 30 players and would not include any goalkeepers!
Hughesy Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I don't like him, nor do I rate him. I'd rather have Savage back Im glad your not the manager then. Sbragia set to reject Rovers

He's been pants for the last 2/3 seasons. However it's low risk, and if we agree a fee like we did with Givet for if he comes good, it wouldn't be a bad move. Can't imagine the barcodes would want much for him as a fee.
blue and whites Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 nicko: are we in for Guirane N'Daw from nantes?
Hughesy Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 At only 28 - on loan - Alan Smith is worth the risk of us taking out a loan surely??!
champions1995 Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Smith has never scored many goals wherever he has played. His most successful season at Leeds was in 2003-04 when he scored 9 goals compared to just 3 the previous season. Even at United he scored most of his goals at the start of the season and did not score as many goals as he should have done for that fee. I don't think he has properly recovered since his injury against Liverpool in the FA Cup in 2006.

socngill Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 in order to ease the financial nightmare facing the Magpies That's why I'm against it
Nelson! Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Why did you guys let Derbyshire go? I always thought that was a strange move......he's probably one of those players I was talking about though. I thought he was excellent based on the glimpses I saw and now you'll all tell me he was hopeless! From you squad I like; Warnock, Nelsen and I liked Mokoena but he's gone hasn't he? I think the rest are much of a muchness apart from; Khizanishvili, Roberts and Olsson who I don't rate at all. You have some players who look good at times but don't seem to have as much impact as they should; Reid, Dunn (both injured lots?), MGP, Diouff, Villaneuva. As I said though....this is all probably wrong and opinions tend to get warped when you don't see someone wek in/week out. This is why we're able to get £3million for Daryl Murphy

Our midfield is pretty shocking at present and we badly need 2 good strikers. As well as a pacey winger and a creative midfielder oh...and Mokoena was gash!

Emerson seems like a disappointment to me.....but probably only because he was expected to be a mega-star when he arrived and he's ended up a solid premiership player. I think Samba is effective....wouldn't go as far as good. Perfect for FSA though! Not seen enough of Givet to offer an opinion. What's McCarthy been like? We were linked with him last summer and he seemed keen but we got Cisse instead. My opinion would be something along the lines of "bags of talent, can't be arsed to apply it."
