arealbrfcfan Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Zigic is pretty much a Santa Cruz replacement as there ever was... People are slagging him off but Santa Cruz was an injury-ridden player when we signed him, pretty much a risk but turned good. Hughes was interested in Zigic before Santa Cruz...this must mean something. I'm a believer in Zigic, he looks better for club than country tho.

owenrilla Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Zigic is B*LLOCKS! I've seen him play twice in person and he is beyond hopeless, a one-dimensional lump of a player with no first touch and zero finishing ability. If you thought last season's football was ugly just you wait until August... May I ask which games these were before I disregard your opinion completely?
rovers1995 Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Rumours from Spain that Bojan is being loaned out. Any clubs mentioned?
Hughesy Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Spencey - just out of interest who do YOU think we should sign n why??
Saahil Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Any one know if Vieri is playing tonight? I cant wait to watch us play its been far too long :-)
Iceman Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Does the damn striker have to be 8 foot 5? Cant we just get a quick striker and play the ball over the top for him to run onto? We will still be able to play long ball.
Kelbo Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Does the damn striker have to be 8 foot 5? Cant we just get a quick striker and play the ball over the top for him to run onto? We will still be able to play long ball. The opposition will simply defend deeper and deny the striker grass an space!! Now with a big fella and some pace, now you are talking!!

Hughesy Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 So when the opposition defence hold a deep line to negate that, then what do we do? We erm give it to one of our creative midfielders - mmmmmmmmmmmm.......scrap that idea.
Hi Mack Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Zigic is B*LLOCKS! I've seen him play twice in person and he is beyond hopeless, a one-dimensional lump of a player with no first touch and zero finishing ability. If you thought last season's football was ugly just you wait until August... All ways look on the bright side..................... You have watched him twice? 1) On TV you cannot totally judge a players ability 2) You cannot judge a player on 2 games (especially on TV) And with your final comment, BS has got Hoilett and van heerden 2 quick wingers what makes you say it will be Ugly? You sound like all the Dingles do at work!
den Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 So when the opposition defence hold a deep line to negate that, then what do we do? Pass and move used to be a good option.
philipl Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 On the Bentley sale. There is no %age resale clause but it was £15m rising to £17.3m wasn't it? For sure Bentley's dismal year has meant not all of the extra has been triggered, in fact next to nothing has been. However, I think there are clauses relating to what happens to the extra Rovers would have got if Spurs sell him which is why Spurs have been anally retentive around the £12m valuation. Zigic, I have kept quiet so far but I will say I saw two of his games when we were linked first time around and he was extremely poor and that is being polite about it.
spencey7 Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I've seen Zigic play a few times and there's absolutely no way he has worse technique and finishing than Samba. Riiiggghhhttt........................... SIGN HIM UP! May I ask which games these were before I disregard your opinion completely? I was at Racing Santander v Real Zaragoza (2007) and Valencia v Recreativo (2008). Ironically he missed open goals in both games. Spencey - just out of interest who do YOU think we should sign n why?? Pavel Pogrebnyak (yup, I'm still on about him) Marc Janko Eidur Gudjohnsen Obafemi Martins I would include Radamel Falcao Garcia but he signed for Porto yesterday (for around £4m) Hell I'd even prefer Kenwyne Jones. Signing Zigic (especially for £6m-ish) just makes no sense - he'd be a bigger gamble than any of the players mentioned above. Give me a one-legged Van Nistelrooy or a fat Vieri any day. Despite all this talk of a "tough market", the players are there. It's just unfortunate that Allardyce's fixation on playing The Worst Football In The World narrows our options to hulking great lumps. I'm sick of our club being a national laughing stock. From today's Guardian: Big "Sam" Allardyce has decided to try something new by bringing in a very tall and muscular striker. Current favourites include: Hightower from the Police Academy films, a hat stand and hulking perennial transfer window favourite Nikola Zigic, available for £6m from Valencia.

LeChuck Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Riiiggghhhttt........................... SIGN HIM UP! I was responding to your stupid 'if you thought last season was bad' comment. Zigic is technically far superior to Samba, why would the football get worse? That's rhetorical by the way so you needn't answer, I can see in the mood you're in it would be a bit pointless.

Its fair enough that you have actually seen him to form an opinion but I don't think you can make an absolute judgement on two games. If, for example, someone happened to only have seen Warnock's 'performance' away at Wigan last season they would think he was crap, even Tugay had plenty of games where he couldn't find a teammate and we know how good he was. I think that if we sign Zigic he will surprise some people with the ability he does have. With regard to your own suggestions, do you actually think that Pogrebnyak, Janko or Jones would be deployed in any way other than that in which Zigic would be used?

Absolutely not - we're doomed to anti-football whoever we sign. But Pogrebnyak, Janko or Jones are better than Zigic. MUCH better.
