Torgeir Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Pogrebnyak would be a great buy for a team who plays good football, i think that pretty much rules Rovers out. He'd be great for any team. He's got a physical presence to his game, can take people on and has a cracking shot with his right peg.
Oklahoma Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 if i am wrong i apologise for my stupidity and will blame it on it being so late in the day lol but i think its been mentioned before that a team can only loan one player from the premiership at a time, IF ours will be Di Santo which would rule out caicedo as another option im sure thats the rule? I'm not sure what the rule is. But even if it is like that, it wouldn't harm trying other players. So far, there's a gentleman agreement that if DI Santo goes out on loan, it will be to Rovers, right? What if they decide to keep him in the team?

47er Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Zigic is B*LLOCKS! I've seen him play twice in person and he is beyond hopeless, a one-dimensional lump of a player with no first touch and zero finishing ability. If you thought last season's football was ugly just you wait until August... A little ray of sunshine came into my life.......
Guest bluesue Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 What's the latest on Keith Andrews? Fulham aren't still bidding for him are they? Worst footballer I've seen at this level. Keith plays for the team and 100% for the team at that not many do thats why hodgson wants him id be gutted if he went he's worth 10 benni mccarthys imo
Florida Rover Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Well here is a NEW name that I can't recall for our striker.Granted it's in the Sun Anyone know of him? Erwin Hoffer
Pinch Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Well here is a NEW name that I can't recall for our striker.Granted it's in the Sun Anyone know of him? Erwin Hoffer Yep, I saw him play for Austria at the FIFA u-20 world cup. He was a star for their team, who went much deeper into the tournament than expected. He looked good at that level...only 22 yrs old now, potential resale value...but (just like Janko) this could be too BIG a step up from the Austrian league.

So its the Austrian league, so what? If he delivers the goals then sign him up. For 2.5mill its not going to hurt us much. We spent so much Money on the likes of Davies and Grabbi, that this might just be a good move. In fact Hoffer might be Derbs replacement, and not RSC.
brian_gallagher85 Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 That's a bit harsh! Downing hasn't even walked unaided for us yet! I'm sure he'll do bugger all for you lot for the first month of the season though!
RovertheHill Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 It's worrying but I find myself hoping we sign strikers based on an inversely proportional reaction to certain posters on this website Davies and Zigic for me
gumboots Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 ALAN SMITH...as outlined earlier, old interest, probably being revived by the local Newcastle paper for [a] a story on a quiet day or to try and help Newcastle move him on...if he is signed I will have to pack this board in because I could not say what I thought of that as a signing. You and most of us on here I suspect!
roversmad95 Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 i thought sam said he was waiting till he had his main striker target before spending any more money maybe he knows we can get zigic for 6 million thats why we can spend 2.5 million on erwin (jimmy) hoffer... hopfuly it leaves 4-4.5 million for a box to box CM.... also it was said on here before we can only get one prem player on loan at a time so if we have di santo we cant get smith or caicedo.... cheers....
philipl Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Keep the dosh in the bank until at least 15 August for me. I fancy there are going to be (relative) bargains at the end of this window.
Jan Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 petrov sidwell gardner reo-coker and umm oh downing..............there u go Sorry, but if you seriously believe that Petrov, Sidwell or Downing are worse than Andrews, you need your bumps felt. Andrews is really awful. He has a passing accuracy range of about 6 feet- anything over that goes astray, he has zero positional sense- as right back he's never where needed and in midfield (especially against good midflields) he's rarely more than 3 feet away from his midfield partner. He cannot trap a ball, I've never seen him head a ball, and his tackling is 4th division stuff. His positive attributes are popping up with the odd goal and staying fit. But if Woy's looking- he's a world-beater!!! You KNOW you want to spend that £3 million.
Ricky Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Hoffer's scoring record last season was pretty impressive. He's also scored a lot of goals for the Austrian youth teams. Can he score goals in the prem, I don't know. Is he worth a shout at 2.5m, I think so. He scored a hat trick in a 7-0 win against Red Bull Salzburg so he certainly knows where the back of the net is and outshone Janko in that one.
philipl Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Oh crikey, the Andrews debate has spilled over onto here now. Let's just say that MancVillan has spotted what quite a few of us know already. At least Andrews really applies himself all the time which cannot be said for the Villa team in the last dozen games of last season.

Fylde Coast Fan Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 If "Jimmy" Hoffer is really available at £2.5m then we should absolutely take a punt on him. I'd be surprised if he can replicate 34 goals in 81 games in the Prem, but assuming he'd come as a Derbyshire replacement rather than our main striker then why not? We could afford both him and Zigic.
philipl Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Let's just say that nicko is signalling that if we think Zigic is coming for £6m and reasonable wages, we are all in la la land just now.
Ricky Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Looks like there may be competition for Zigic's signiture then Philip. Probably best to wait and see what happens with that one. If someone's daft enough to offer 12m or so for him then crack on. At 6m he'd be a good signing, at 8m it wouldn't be the end of the world but anything above that is a serious gamble. bear in mind that Mark Hughes managed to bring in Bellemy, McCarthy and Santa Cruz for £10m in total.

Ricky Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 To be fair though we picked up Santa Cruz for 3.3m when other clubs were still paying silly fees. It was the same time as Sunderland were paying 6m for Chopra.
Alan75 Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 times have changed ricky... shearer was only 3.5 million(transfer record at the time).... and a brand new mini used to be £600.00 when Jim Smith had to buy his own tea bags
