If "Jimmy" Hoffer is really available at £2.5m then we should absolutely take a punt on him. I'd be surprised if he can replicate 34 goals in 81 games in the Prem, but assuming he'd come as a Derbyshire replacement rather than our main striker then why not? We could afford both him and Zigic.

yes, anything in this do we know gents???

Blackburn are ready to splash £2.5m on Rapid Vienna forward Erwin Hoffer as a replacement for Roque Santa Cruz.

Whats is he like as a player?

Finally, I can bring some news to the table. Man Utd has bought Moldes (Norway) striker Mame Biram Diouf. He is 21 years old, and is a great prospect! From Senegal.

Manchester United ?

Mame Biram Diouf isnt that good.

Is this the new Eric Bellion?

Looks like there may be competition for Zigic's signiture then Philip. Probably best to wait and see what happens with that one. If someone's daft enough to offer 12m or so for him then crack on. At 6m he'd be a good signing, at 8m it wouldn't be the end of the world but anything above that is a serious gamble. bear in mind that Mark Hughes managed to bring in Bellemy, McCarthy and Santa Cruz for £10m in total.

Pretty much how I see it too. Id be delighted at £6m, £8m is acceptable, anything much more and we should move on to another target - Maybe a big for Jones to start with.

Suprised nobody has took Martins yet. There is a bargain to be had there!!

Although Nicko did say they were currently not allowing anyone to leave yet.

He's had a poor season and is on 70k a week. Not sure that is a bargain to be honest.

He's at a relegated club who are desperate to shift wages and make some returns on some of their player.

Im sure they would let him go for relatively cheap compared to the market prices at the moment and he would probably take some sort of cut to stay in the premier. Also if we are willing to take him on - they may even agree to contribute some to his wages.

When you consider prices of £16m for Bent or £12m for crouch, he is one worth considering. He is very strong and has bags of pace - he is better than anything we have upfront and he would add a new dimension to our game.

He still managed 8 in 24 games in a poor side, despite having 3 managers and an unsettled side. Injuries also disrupted his season.

Mokoena - Carsley - Barmby - Fagan - Amdy Faye

Those two were streets ahead at Andrew's age and Fagan is a striker isn't he?

Mancvillan you've poked a hornets nest here. There is a strange section of our fans who cannot tell a footballer from a plank of wood. I call it Grabbiitis although it's also known as Steadinho syndrome. Whatever the correct term basically it's the desire from some supporters for a Rovers team bereft of ability and selected from a group of the worst ever Premiership players.

I have to say I veiw you and Jim Mk 2s etc. point of view as bizarre. In terms of being effective he has been better or as useful as a number of our players last season (Dunn, Grella, Roberts, Simpson, Olsson, Mokoena, Vogel) and put a shift in.

Why do people like taking the p*ss out of one of our own players who has done a decent job and tried hard? It's pathetic. He is a squad player, every team needs those. Give it up.

ALAN SMITH...as outlined earlier, old interest, probably being revived by the local Newcastle paper for [a] a story on a quiet day or to try and help Newcastle move him on...if he is signed I will have to pack this board in because I could not say what I thought of that as a signing.

What you are saying is that Alex Ferguson can't spot a footballer then?

I must say that imo Smith is a one trick pony as a striker. Very strong player to hold the ball up but ###### poor when he turns around. If he was not so injury prone of late and cheap enough then he'd do a job for us. Unfortunately he is injury prone and he'd prob demand big wages. If NUFC will pay a chunk then he might be an OK option.

Is he not about 6 years older than he claims though? That would make him pushing 31 if that is true.

If you believe that I suppose. He has alot of pace for a 31 year old footballer then :P

Try reading a little slower Hughesy.

Oops my mistake x2

Nobody's saying he wasn't a decent player but injury, age, playing in a rubbish side have taken a lot of what he had away and there's little to suggest that he could ever get most of it back. When he was a kid at Leeds he used to annoy me but he was good - nowadays he's not worth our taking a gamble with.

I've given my view half way down the page here.

Point is that some people actually try to make out that he is a top player in their frothy eagerness to defend him. He plainly isn't and if we want to improve then we need a better player than KA in the squad. As it is our financial limitations mean that we have other areas to spend money on first. How difficult is that to comprehend?
