thenodrog - In my opinion there is a problem with playing long balls - I watch football and support Blackburn Rovers to be entertained. I have never found a team playing Allardyce's style of football to be remotely entertaining. To be perfectly honest I find it cringeworthy.

We are playing in (allegedly) "the best league in the world". We're paying players tens of thousands of pounds per week. Our team comprises internationals from over 12 nations. We should be asking for better tactics than those deployed at Primary School level.

I watch football to see my team win as many games as possible. sometimes it's entertaining as well, but that's a bonus we can't always demand or expect.

Absolutley spot on!

My team winning is the most important thing, and I'm sorry but people who say otherwise then I just don't understand you

I think MK Dons could use some more fans, if you're interested.

absolutely bored stiff of transfer speculation. nothing is going to happen and it`s time to accept i think that we will start the season as we are, and maybe even will finish the season as we are. the club clearly don`t want to spend money nowadays unless it`s a steal like the bellamy/mccarthy/roque deals in terms of transfer fee/wages, and those deals are almost impossible now. i think the club will hold any transfer money until a bargain deal is possible, and that may not even be this season.

sorry if that`s a downer, but i`d be surprised to see any differant now. i think our transfer record of 7.5m is very safe.

And I don't understand you - and that's fine. We just have to agree to disagree.

Some posters seem to have an awfully hard time accepting that.

you`ll see..

look at all our deals so far for evidence, all of them come under the header of `bargain basement`. sam undoubtedly would like to bring in some of the names mentioned, but his hands are tied by the club financially.

that is why our board were so desparate for a takeover a couple of years back, because this was always on the horizon.

i got to admit , i am concerned that with about 3 weeks to go before the start of a new season , we haven't addressed LAST years problems of no pace in the team or quality in midfield , let alone find replacements for derbs and RSC i still feel we need 4 new players , hoillett and n'zonzi may make me eat my words , but it's a lot to expect from 2 youngsters

winning is entertaining to me, and I don't think we can afford to play pretty football and still be successful in this league, we can either have fancy players who won't help us win very often or we can have rugged ones that do. The again i understand that you disagree and would rather see arsenal style football.

as for transfers, i don't think the powers that be are stupid enough to think we can stay up without any help up front, and I also think they realize that going down would cost us alot more than a 8 million pound striker. we will sign someone upfront, lets just hope it works out, cause i am not ready for 40 games of Samba the Striker.

We will definately sign at least one striker. But you are right that it could be a bit more 'budget' than people are anticipating.

My personal prediction is we will spend somewhere between 6-8 on a striker, and 2-4 on another player.

are these the same powers that be, that didn`t feel the need to replace bentley? they will look at the form of the team under sam at the end of last season(minus roque), and feel that it`s good enough to be safe in this league over 38 games(i agree with that). that is the only aim i think for our board now i reckon as we are considered in a state of financial limbo until a take over can happen.

if you want to continue to be optimistic of our chances of spending 8m on a striker, then your perfectly entitled to be. i just beg to differ.

spencey7 - We can only play the football that our team allows. There's no use trying to fit square pegs into round holes. If you think our current outfit can play (and survive) in the PL with sweeping, one-touch football, then you're sorely mistaken. We simply can't afford to put a team like that together without serious investment. And right now, the £15m windfall is being used to replace like for like.

I do think you're doing a disservice to Sam's game. Yes, it's all about %, and he prefers a 6 foot+ focal point up-front, but he also signed players for Bolton like Djorkaeff, Okocha and Stelios to provide that spark in midfield. I'll admit last season some of our football was dire, but it was the necessary evil to drag our asses away from relegation. With a pre-season under the new manager, and some fresh blood, I'm sure the football won't be so crude. Direct, none the less (Liverpool were pretty direct when they trounced Man Utd at OT, btw) but with enough polish to save face.

So let me get this right.........

We play Sam's way and win, you go home unhappy?

We play nice attractive football and get beat 5-0, you go home happy?

i`m with you all the way on this point sjs. i find it incredible that some fans would rather see tricks and flicks in defeat, than workrate and a win. if i`m going to spend my hard earned money to watch my team, i want to see a solid well organised team sweat blood in an effort to get 3 points, not surrender monkies limply losing to wigan athlectic trying to play fantasy stuff and failing embarressingly.

I`m not going to post a reply to Spencey7 from before, your post sums it up exactly sjsbrfc !

If we are drawing 1-1, and we scored our first through a long ball punt, and the on the 89th minute we score by a real messy goal, that is unattractive to watch................I tell you all, I`m going to celebrate like crazy, and not give two flying hoots how we scored and won

Absolute pants - what a silly statement about primary school level - do you really think that they mark up primary school tactics on the board in the dressing room before a match, with the top 5 important tactics for the players to memorise before going out ?

A board full of magnets, showing defensive and attacking positions at corners as well as free kicks doesn`t co-incide with my time at primary school, maybe you studied at Lileshaw perhaps ?

Agree with the majority of posters. It's all about winning and excitement. If we create lots of chances and win games through playing long ball, than that's ok with me. Just as an example the West Ham home game was blatently long ball tactics, but my word it was exciting. No complaints on my part there.

Incidently Ince's square ball football was NOT attractive. We never looked like scoring, or even creating chances.

The only thing I want to see from my team aside from winning is EFFORT. If the lads work hard to the best of their abilities, I'll not really complain, even if beaten. A lack of effort really annoys me. This shouldn't be an issue with Sam's team.

Yes exactly Topman, no one would love more than me to play quick flowing football but we havent got the players to compete in midfield to do that, maybe the emergance of Hoilett and Doran will give us some pace, hopefully Di Santo too, may allow us to change things but we do need another striker and a central midfielder as we all know to even contemplate that!!

Foreign players are now becoming even more difficult to attract now due to the strength of the pound and the govenments insistance to increase out taxes to pay for their second homes!!!

we will sign players, who is the question, but even Liverpool, Man U, Aresenal etc are finding it difficult at the moment!!
