modes98 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 find a better striker in premier league in 7-8 m pound braket Have a look at the list of fantasy football strikers, pretty much any of them. Alan Smith is such a poor striker that he hasn't played there in 5 years! He does an average job in midfield, but just isn't premier league quality. 45 goals in 270 PL apps says it all. Harewood has 22 goals in 98 PL apps. On the sort of wages he commands at Newcastle he just isn't worth a look.

beerwins Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Why all chat about finding strikers around 7-8 mill from prem? if that was the criterea we wouldnt have signed santa, looking on your own doorstep shows a lack of creativity if you ask me, if 5 mill for davies or 10 mill for jones, or shudder to think that alan smith is considered then someone should be sacked. Just because prem is no 1 league in the world is doesnt mean that a striker from any league couldnt be considered, sams football isnt rocket science the target man needs to be big and strong , good head , good ball retention and a keen footballing brain, if a player like that cant be found , sign more scouts!
Fraserkirky Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I had a dream we got Di Santo on loan, bojinov for 3m and Barton for 2m.
Guest FelchMaster Khan Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I had a dream we got Di Santo on loan, bojinov for 3m and Barton for 2m. why does every one think that barton is ok but no one thinks smith can do a job for us
HairwayToSteven Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I know its going over old ground but why let RSC leave if it's 'nigh on impossible' to sign strikers right now? Get a replacement sorted and then sell your man. If we don't bring in two front men - one needs to be of top quality then the board are screaming to be relegated.Because it was silly money and RSC didn't want to continue playing for Rovers.
Guest FelchMaster Khan Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 barton is a poor human being seriously i would not go any games if we get him he sets a poor example for children watching the game he does not even play often because of prison, injury, suspension, falling out with staff/other players. bad bad idea sam has more sense i hope
AggyBlue Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I know its going over old ground but why let RSC leave if it's 'nigh on impossible' to sign strikers right now? I'd suggest reading through all the old posts from the RSC thread repeatedly until it becomes clear.
Torgeir Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 How much would Demba Ba go for? Surely he would join us from Hoffenheim...probably expensive though, but who isn't.
bonger 26 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I would like to see us give gally another crack at the whip this season always thought he looked decent just abit light on the ball. any talk of any decent prem quality midfeilders comin in or having a look at?
Veevs Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 There seems to of been quiet a bit of random waffle in the last few pages.. What exactly are we left with atm.. Main options.. Jones: Probably waiting to see what happens with crouch etc Di Santo: Awaiting Anc making a choice Zigic: Valancia valuation too high atm and negotiators away so maybe waiting for them to return Backup options or waiting for valuations to drop: Dindane: Not got a clue Gignac: Waiting for valuation to drop Chamakh: Mentioned us, but more than likely will end up at arse Hoffer: Going nowhere? Surely as no one else seems interested we would of made a move Piquionne: Dont know much about that one Janko: Untried, playing in a poor league Progna(whatever): Not linked this summer and out of contract soon Probably too expensive: Negrado Too Expensive and unrealistic: Davies Bent Crouch RVN Too Fat: Vieri I am guessing we are either waiting to see if teams lower valuations or waiting for players to become available.
philipl Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I have no problem with us looking at unlikely players with Sam as the boos. Last year we saw Fowler was rubbish and we took him, this year Vieri has not been taken. Glad we have gone off Smith- the guy is a two footed tackler and the rest of his game has been completely shot for at least three seasons. I don't mind Rovers spending years trying to rehabilitate Matt Jansen, David Dunn and Steven Reid but Smith and Barton- no way no thanks! As for the debate about style and quality of football, I think we have to suspend our prejudices. Ignore the fact the manager is called Sam Allardyce and just watch what happens when the season starts. So long as we start off tight at the back, I think some of us will be pleasantly surprised by how the team will be playing its football.

Montfort Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I don't mind Rovers spending years trying to rehabilitate Matt Jansen, David Dunn and Steven Reid but Smith and Barton- no way no thanks! Absolutely correct. I feel so dissapointed with fellow fans and enthusiasts every time I see a suggestion that Barton should come to us. There are worse things than loosing - not alot, but having Barton in your side is one of them.
alexanders Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 8.23 Erwin Hoffer's agent has rejected speculation linking the Austrian with a move to Blackburn Rovers.
modes98 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 why does every one think that barton is ok but no one thinks smith can do a job for us I don't think anyone has said Barton is "ok". The man's attitude and failure to learn is a big problem for any club. Alan Smith struggled even before his serious injury. Only hitting double figures once and he has played for 2 'top 4' teams for the majority of his career.
daveoftherovers Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I had a dream we got Di Santo on loan, bojinov for 3m and Barton for 2m. So went from a nice dream to a really bad nightmare then? Was the last part the bit where you woke up in cold sweat? Because it woud deeply concern me, I REALLY do not want that scumbag anyway near our great club, he's just WRONG IMHO!
modes98 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 LET: Rovers target Moroccan Chamakh is not a prolific goal scorer but his ability to hold the ball up and dominate aerially would tick a lot of boxes in Allardyce’s search for Roque Santa Cruz’s replacement. He has made 50 international appearances, scoring 50 goals, and has revealed he would be interested in a switch to Ewood Park. I'd say that was pretty prolific Great typo! Should be 15.
gumboots Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Re Chamakh http://www.francefootball.fr/FF/breves2009...tre-ecoute.html Says he's got a meeting with his bosses today and he is determined to come to the Premier league. Doesn't think it will be with Arsenal (who according to other reports prefer Gignac). His bosses are doing all they can to persuade him that he'd be better playing Champions league with Bordeaux than at a lower level in England but that doesn't bother him. He doesn't want to go to Canada with Bordeaux; he wants to go to England. It's his first transfer and he didn't think it'd be this much of a problem. He's losing sleep over it.
alexanders Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Looking like it can be Chamakh who is playing at Ewood Park next year then. With Arsenal chasing Gignac and Sunderland chasing Crouch etc I think we have a fair chance. It's also been reported that the fee would be around £7-8m.

alexanders Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Very optimistic right now. Fairly young, with a decent goalscoring record in a good league. For me this is a better option than Marc Janko. Stats: 2006/07: Games Started: 21 (7 subs) / Goals: 5 2007/08: Games Started: 17 (15 subs) / Goals: 4 2008/09: Games Started: 25 (9 subs) / Goals: 13 Not many goals in the 06 and 07 seasons, but he might be getting the right confidence and has become a good finisher. He also a very good target man with good technique and physical presence.
gumboots Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 LET: Rovers target Moroccan I'd say that was pretty prolific Great typo! Should be 15. Report in the LET is based on what he said the other day. The one i've linked to today is more recent. in it he says he could go to Fulham, Spurs us or Sunderland. I've seen a photo of him scoring at the end of the season where he has an absolutely fantastic leap, towering over the keeper. could be what we are looking for.
alexanders Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Eddie would you give us an opinion on Chamakh? Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has admitted an interest in Bordeaux forward Marouane Chamakh. But with Arsenal waiting in the wings to spend some of the £25million they received from Manchester City for Emmanuel Adebayor, the Black Cats don't look favourites to snare the Morocco international. Bruce said: "We have had an interest in the player but, like several players we just have to wait and see what happens." Sunderland is our biggest competitor on signing Chamakh

If Sunderland came in I think we may struggle to match their wages. Fulham we could possibly match. I think Spurs will go for bigger names.
hi-jaq Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Chamakh seems like the right kind of signing... Tall, strong target man, with a touch of pace & the possibility of him devolping his ability in our system, if Arsenal were serious about him then you have to trust Whinger's judgement, the last time they spent £10m on a striker from the french league, it was Adebayor & they have just sold him for £25m, so I'm very optimistic on this one!!! I'd like to see us make a serious bid for Erwin Hoffer, from what I've heard hes a good un & still quite young, if he's available at the right price, I can't see why we shouldn't have a go at him. Sign those 2 & maybe just have some spare change for a midfielder (Lucas Biglia... how much do Anderlecht want for him???)
