If we sign someone and he's off next summer that would mean he's done a good job more than likely and we'd make a profit, I'm happy with that.

Oh and further to Saviolas exclusive i can reveal that at somestage this summer a team will sign a player, you heard it here first :P

Whoever we sign will be off again next season anyway. To be honest, i'd rather we just signed Kevin Davies and got three years out of him bullying defenders around. At least every other club wouldn't be trying to sign him....

Regarding Chamakh, I don't believe for a second that he is trying to anchor for a move, I have never seen such an obvious situation where a player is lookiong for a new contract, unbelievable! The fact that he's linking himself to every club in the world makes it blatantly obvious.

Sam will struggle with further signings this summer but I do believe he will unearth something at the last minute out of nowhere so until then, there isn't really much to discuss.

yep.

I wont hold my breath until we actually sign someone...

I think that's a good move. You'd be blue by the time we do sign someone ;)

I think it said on BBC the other day that Bordeux want his future sorted early this week, so if it is going to happen I would think it'll move quickly. The noises from his side seem to be getting more frequent and louder as well.

There could be big news regarding the striker front this week, weekend most likely

are you a politician?

We all know that we are hunting for a striker, and we all now that there could be news ;)

French media reports that he is having a meeting with the Bordeux representatives today to tell them he wants to go to Premier League.

My day is being ruined by Rovers fans with their heads in the clouds thinking that we'll beat Arsenal and Spurs to signing a player who has no reason to hold any affinity towards us. Hes already come out and said that Arsenal would be perfect for him...get the hint

Zhirkov is a Rover, how can you be so sure Chamakh isn't one too? ;)

Bruce was quoted in the local press this morning as saying he hopes to hear about Crouch in the next 24 hours. We've done all we can, offered him a package we think he deserves and made our best effort to convince him it's the right move. Spurs and Fulham are reportedly interested but I doubt either of them have the money until they unload players so I guess it depends how long Crouch is willing to put off a definite transfer in the hope of a potential one.

Bruce also mentioned Chamakh and said something along the lines of "we'll wait and see"...it sounds as though our intention is to wait on an answer from Crouch (hopefully we wont allow him too long) and if we don't get him we'll push on with Chamakh. Yourselves and Arsenal might have other ideas though.

A fella who was has quoted Bruce as saying "watch this space" in reference to KJH  but I suspect he's just having a laugh.

Can your midfield provide the service to him that he needs though? If not then it's a LOT of money to throw away.

I'd have been more concerned with the midfield if I was Sunderland.

i`d be more concerned that steve bruce is the man charged with blowing their millions..

With regards to Chmakh, spud kid in my office just forwarded this to me as it metioned us ....

Basiclly he says that he no longuer has a chance to join arsenal but has agreed terms with us, fulham, sunderland and blackburn.

*He is meeting the bordeaux chairman this morning, they want him to stay and will persuade him that we are only a 2nd string club and that he should wait until next summer.

*Chmakh says he has his mind set and will go to a 2nd string club anyway, he will leave and will decide today.

*I know his brother, he wants to play in england and i think he`ll sign for us very soon.

Good question, I'm surprisedby the lack of midfield targets too. The only target identified so far is cattermole as a replacement for whitehead.

I'm putting it down to the fact he wants to assess his squad. We have a lot of midfielders who can be potentially very effective, on their day. Malbranque, Richardson, Reid, Edwards, etc can all offer something but haven't been for whatever reason. I suspect Bruce wants to cast his eye over them before signing replacements for them......as for strikers and defenders, we just don't have enough of them so new signings are a necessity.

I ahve a feeling we'll see some more midfield links after these games in Amsterdam.

I've just seen KJH linked wit Stuttgart too, guess either Bruce or the lad who posted it were joking.....as expected....oh well.

Malbranque

I would love it if Sam went after Malbranque. What kind of price are we talking about?

TheNews: So suddenly, spurs are the favourite to land Chamakh?

What about Crouch, Klas Jan Huntelaar and Negredo? What a joke of a club.

:D Not a chance, mate.

Wouldn't he be a little wasted watching the ball fly over his head anyway? You might aswel put me in your midfield -_-

You know how lucky you are. On his day he is pure class and I think he provided a lot of assists for you last year as well?

I can also see Richardson providing a lot of assists for Crouch as well. Except from that a little bit weak in the midfield area. Strange that Sbragia decided selling Dioufy.

Well I guess like us Sunderland and a few others they will have options and if you first target goes elsewhere then you move onto the next.

I doubt very much if Sam has only one target

Until Sbragia took over Richardson, Malbranque, Cisse were all very effective. Malbranque was providing a lot of assists for Cisse, who was in turn converting them. He was into double figures by xmas and Malbranque was near the top of the assists table even at the end of the season.

Unfortunately Sbragia killed any sort of creativity and endeavour that we had up until he took over. The players relaxed when Keane left and won a couple of games against poor teams heavily......this got Sbragia a job he should never have even been considered for and we had to watch tripe for the rest of the season. He had players like Malbranque so focussed on defending and trakcing back there was no room for good forward play. Unsurprisingly, we stopped giving cisse through balls which had been so successful and reverted to lumping it forwards from the back.

I think Bruce is well aware of this and that's why he hasn't written off our midfield.....he's giving them a chance to show that in a team playing the right way they can offer a lot.

Malbranque was incredible until Sbragia took over.....then completely lost afterwards. I love the guy though, he's the best 'footballer' I've seen in a Sunderland shirt....which isn't saying much, granted.

Diouff was causing trouble because he wanted to play, not sit on the bench......we all know his temprament and I think seeing a clearly over weight Reid ahead of him sparked it off. In fairness, he played a lot at the star of the season and aside from 'agro' he didn't show much.

I maintain that Keane tred to take on too much too fast in Chimbonda, Diouff and Cisse. Top class players without issues won't come to a club like Sunderland....so he had to gamble. Cisse was excellent and his 'issue' was just moodyness, the other two would cause a fight at a meeting of bhuddist monks.
