Backroom Tom Posted July 14, 2010 Backroom Posted July 14, 2010 Hmmm that site gives Branco an 8. Are we any closer to knowing if it is the defender yet?
Parsonblue Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Thanks for that, decent game or not? Any idea on the other scorer? Rovers goals were scored by Pearson and a couple from Blackman. It really was a game of two halves with the Rovers in total control in the first half and employed a 3-5-2 formation. Pearson, Zurab and Gunning looked very comfortable at the back and this formation enabled Morris to move into a central midfield position alongside Michael Potts and Alex Marrow with Jackson Ramm and Zach Aley providing the width. Once again, Brazilian trialist Rodrigo Branco partnered Nick Blackman in attack but, in truth, he had a very quiet game. Nonethless, only some excellent goalkeeping prevented the Rovers from taking a commanding lead in the first half. However, at 2-0, the game seemed over when Blackman scored his second goal, early in the second half, to give the Rovers a three goal lead. Yet, once again, a highly controversial refereeing decision altered the course of the game. Zurab won a tackle in the area, clearly knocking the ball away from the the Kendal Town forward, only to see the referee blow up for a penalty. I don't think anyone, even the Kendal fans, could believe that the ref had awarded the penalty. Worse was to follow for poor Zurab when a shot from Foster, hit the post and then rebounded onto Zurab - who had no chance of avoiding the ball - and then bounced into net. The Rovers held on for a 3-2 win with Alex Marrow being the man of the match with a superb performance in midfield for the Rovers. Both Morris and Aley were a threat in the first half but faded in the second half. Blackman worked hard up front and took his goals well.
alexanders Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 I think Blackman has a very good goalscoring record for the reserves. Taken from the offical page: 5 in 7 I think.
Majiball Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 So both the first team and the reserves are trying out this 352 formation. Perhaps a sign of thing to come? We'd better get the flank protection right otherwise we could get raped down them. Also with two up top and only two in the team, well we most definitly need a takeover to make it work, 2.5M won't get the 2 we need.

Hughesy Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 3-5-2....Our defensive minded options --------Jones--Samba--Givet------- Salgado---------------------Olsson --------------NZonzi-------------- Jones or Nelsen Salgado or Emerton NZonzi or Grella
G Somerset Rover Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 3-5-2....Our defensive minded options --------Jones--Samba--Givet------- Salgado---------------------Olsson --------------NZonzi-------------- Jones or Nelsen Salgado or Emerton NZonzi or Grella I love Salgado's energy and enthusiasm, but it would be a bit much to expect him to play a full Premier League season as a wing back at 34/35. As you say we have got Emo who could play there, but I'd like to see Salgado at RB for another season at least.
Majiball Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 3-5-2....Our defensive minded options --------Jones--Samba--Givet------- Salgado---------------------Olsson --------------NZonzi-------------- Jones or Nelsen Salgado or Emerton NZonzi or Grella It may work, but with most of them having spent their entire careers in a flat 4, expect mistakes to be made. You also have issues when the wing backs push on and get caught. N'zonzi must come across along with a centre back which leaves us very exposed. Normally a 352 is played with two sitter types to help prevent that issue. -------------Robbo-------------- ------Jones--Smaba--Givet------- Slagado---N'zonzi--Gamst---Olsson -------------Dunn--------------- ---------Kalinic--Roberts------- The strikers will have to work the flanks to help the wingbacks. It does get us the two up top but I have to hope that the players get some serious training in the system as one mistake at this level and your 1 down in general. The last team to try this was Pompey with Harry and they didn't stick with it for long after being ripped apart a few times.
Iceman Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 will never work, because Salgado although he has alot of energy, will struggle to get back and defend. He did well at right back, and making the odd run forward. Our defence was solid enough, why change the system?
Foxxx Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Would think Nelsen would be the first pick in defence, if we played 3-5-2, thats the system he played at DC United, and at the World Cup with NZ, we played a back 3.
Hughesy Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Would think Nelsen would be the first pick in defence. No bias involved in your thinking? Nelsen will be lucky to get in the team if Jones continues his rapid development.
Majiball Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 It could be a 3-4-3 formation. Surely not, but if your by-passing midfield??? If thats the case then we need 6 frontmen.
Hughesy Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 3-5-2 on paper with Olsson & Salgado at wing-back. In reality - 4-4-2 on attack (Salgado not that attacking), 5-4-1 in defence (Olsson has the energy to get back).
92er Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 3-5-2 on paper with Olsson & Salgado at wing-back. In reality - 4-4-2 on attack (Salgado not that attacking), 5-4-1 in defence (Olsson has the energy to get back). Surely it can't be the 4-4-2 system as Allardyce has convinced us it's outmoded. I certainly hope it's not 3-5-2. About 15 years ago Johnny Giles wrote a complete demolishment of the system in the Independent.
Shabani Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 If big Sam played it it would essentially end up becoming a 5-4-1 system, the formation that north korea played The two wing backs would probably end up being pinned in their own half and become too defensive, with a midfielder sat in front of the 3 centre backs meaning we end up with 6 at the back. No way would we play 2 strikers, we'd have Dunn sat behind Kalinic, with Kalinic expected to run after every lost cause end up with no support All it takes is one carefully timed opposition counter and we'd be toast
Exiled_Rover Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 3-5-2 on paper with Olsson & Salgado at wing-back. In reality - 4-4-2 on attack (Salgado not that attacking), 5-4-1 in defence (Olsson has the energy to get back). He really doesn't. He's always knackered and shirking his defensive duties. Remember what Bale did to Salgado? That'd happen every week if you asked him to play as a wing back.
unleaded Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 BLACKBURN ROVERS V Southport...........2 Intresting Names.......Iranian & Myles Anderson............Never heard of him.......... 1 Mark Bunn 2 Pascal Chimbonda 3 Amine Linganzi 4 Gael Givet 5 Michel Salgado 6 David Dunn 7 Alex Marrow 8 Alan Judge 9 Andranik Teymourian 10 Morten Pedersen 11 Maceo Rigters 12 Jason Brown 13 Zac Aley 14 Zurab Khizanishvili 15 Myles Anderson 16 John Flynn
Backroom Tom Posted July 17, 2010 Backroom Posted July 17, 2010 Worth giving Andranik a shot he looked like he had a bit o something about him and wouldn't command much in wages Also is linganzi going to be playing centre half, I thought he was a midfielder.

ChesterRover Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 it can't be right he's listed as a RB, must be an alias, but why? There is also a young Central Defender at London Macabi Lions with the same name but it seems a massive step up for either of the above mentioned?
Parsonblue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 The Reserves continued their pre-season build up with a 2-0 win at Rhyl today. Nick Blackman, who came on at the start of the second half, scored both goals. Once again, the Rovers included Branco in attack but he made very little impression against the Rhyl defence before being replaced late in the game by Robbie Cotton - in what was his first appearance for the Reserves. Myles Anderson played at left-back in the first half and gave a steady performance before being replaced at half-time by Blackman. The second half also saw the appearance of another trialist named Haygnner. I may be wrong, but a quick search on the internet would suggest that he plays for the youth team of FC Pacos De Ferreira in Portugal. He played in midfield but it is too early to form any impressions as to his ability. Aaron Doran returned after injury but had a quiet game while Alan Judge was busy without creating too many opportunities. I suspect that Judge will move on this summer while Doran might be loaned out again as both seem to have slipped down the pecking order over the past twelve months. Alex Marrow gave another impressive performance in midfield and Zac Aley looked a threat on the left wing. However, the man of the match for the Rovers - by a country mile - was Zurab. He was the one player on either side who found space, made time and simply oozed class in everything he did.
hollowsr Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Many thanks as always Parson. Interesting to see another trialist, its been a weird summer with Judge. He said at end of season he expected to move on then went to Austria and played in games for us and then not taken to Oz whilst Morris was. Doran still has plenty of time so a loan move would be good for him or maybe even staying here could do well if he gets a few chances in cup games maybe. Also very interesting to see Cotton make his debut at that level, think he only played for U18's at end of season if he's played for them at all.
