RevidgeBlue Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 What on earth makes people think Rovers are going to finish 8th/9th/10th? We only just stayed up last season and as things stand now are considerably weaker now than we were then! It's probably too early to be making definitive predictions until the end of the window but if the season started tomorrow with no further additions possible I'd say we'd definitely be down there in a dogfight with the 3 promoted Clubs and Hull and Stoke.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Revidge, your opinion used to hold sway with me but every post of yours I have read this week, and indeed for some time has been soaked in negativity. Are you on a wind up? I'm honestly not sure.
Amo Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 What on earth makes people think Rovers are going to finish 8th/9th/10th? We only just stayed up last season and as things stand now are considerably weaker now than we were then! You mean the mid-table form despite lacking midfield options AND our key striker? Now we have options - with potential - and reinforcements on their way. But yes, definitely bottom 5 material.

Are you on a wind up? I'm honestly not sure. Of course not. We've sold Santa Cruz and Derbyshire and not replaced them (yet). Roberts and McCarthy are a year older each and the latter has been poor for two seasons now. Our central midfield also looks extremely poor unless Dunn and Reid suddenly stay a lot fitter than they have done for the last several seasons. I haven't seen the new signings play yet but none of them strike me as walk straight into the first eleven material. A lot may still change between now and the end of the window in which case I may revise my opinion somewhat but I can only comment on the situation as it is now, not on the basis of signings that may or may not happen but haven't happened yet.

LeChuck Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 Just a reminder I'll be collating all this info on Saturday, so if you haven't entered or want to change your guesses, do so before the first game kicks-off. Unfortunately there is that annoying timer-lock thing on the 'edit' function, so you'll have to do a new post if you want to change your guess.

philipl Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 1- Chelsea; strengthened on last season and will be unstoppable if Essien, Mike and Lampard stay fit. 2- Liverpool; about the same as last season on balance 3- Arsenal; more coherent squad than last season, need luck with injuries and recoveries. Wilshire one to watch. 4- Man U; significantly weaker and a year older 5- Man City; will give the Big 4 a serious challenge but will just fall short 6- Spurs; probably the most serious amongst the others 7- Villa; I think they will strengthen before the window closes 8- Rovers; heavilly dependent on recoveries from injuries and one of Di Santo and Kalinic coming good 9- Everton; not kicked on transfer wise 10- Sunderland; spent well eventually but I'm not convinced Bruce is that good a manager 11- Fulham; betting on Hangeland leaving otherwise they will be higher 12- Stoke; betting on some late signings to gve them an edge 13- Birmingham; in reality a Prem outfit when they went down and signings have been sound on their return 14- West Ham; too good to go down, too weak to do better 15- Bolton; Megson not going to win any popularity contests but they will not be in any deep trouble 16- Wigan; Martinez to work magic with a patently inadequate squad. Saved by what is below them 17- Burnley; Coyle to work magic and do just enough to survive with a patently inadequate squad 18- Hull City; were going to be 20th tip but recent signings give them hope- need a good start 19- Wolves; not convinced by how McCarthy has spent the money 20- Pompey; ragtag of signings and little forward power. Administration and -9 points beckoning.

Zulu Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Look what the cat dragged in! Welcome back. So... what you're saying is you think a Megson Bolton will finish above an Allardyce Rovers? I smell a bitter Boltoner. LOL! You used to bite quicker than that. As it happens I don't think there's too much between Allardyce and Megson in terms of style and content (albeit Sam does have an unfeasibly fat head). The longer Megson gets into his job, despite the animosity of the majority of fans, the more he looks like a safe pair of hands. A good barometer of his performance is the fact that hardly anybody has tipped us for relegation in this thread. I couldn't see anyone else putting us above you on here so I thought I'd give it a spin! Joking apart, we'll finish very close the pair of us.
