Sam will only sell Warnock if A its a good offer and B he feels he can strenghten us by doing so. I'd be willing to try Rothen on loan with us paying his wages for a year with the option to sign. Then we could move Gamst inside as he looked really effective last night when more centrally positioned.

But if I'm being honest I'd rather the club stretch to Rothen without selling Stevie, hopefully his crosses would provide one or two extra goals and surely one place higher than expected would cover the costs.

If we say now that we have spent all our budget - with the last signing being Kalinic at £6.5m (although i've seen that this could be in installments?) Does that mean that basically we have sold Derbs+RSC for combined £22m and the budget Sam had to replace them BOTH was £6m-ish? (Sam will have factored this in when buying Givet/EVH etc)

It puts into perspective how ridiculous some of our striker guesses were: Crouch, Bent, Zigic, Janko, Gignac, Cardoza, K.Jones etc

We probably couldn't have afforded Benjani even if we wanted him.

Bit disheartening really.

Will be interesting to see next year's Accounting Statements to see the extent that the balance sheet has been cleaned up for potential buyers (obviously at the expense of funds for the team).

Apparently Villa are holding a press conference today to announce something hope it's nothing to do with Warnock

they're holding a lovely girls contest

seriously, we need to keep warnock. It's not about money it's about expectation. We don't need to sell him and we shouldn't be selling our best players to clubs we expect to be rivalling

That's a bloody good point.

Hughesy, ask your Grandad if Sam bought Salgardo three courses, cos if he did there are some serious questions to be answered. If he knew he wanted Salgardo AND Rothen, why blow the all the budget on feeding Salgardo?

Madness.

Hope they didn't have the 5 or 7 course gourmet menu :o

Why are they so desperate for a left back with Bouma and Shorey already there?

You'd think centre back would be far more urgent, with Laursen retiring and Knight going to Bolton.

Wouldn't surprise me to see them go back in for Distin - Pompey are still skint and he can play in both those positions.

Dont we think this thread should now be locked as it is quite obvious we arent going to sign anyone else ?

Or change the title to "Blackburn Rovers Transfer Topic OUTGOINGS ONLY, Rovers chat only / no off topic posts tolerated, or INCOMING CHAT"

I am pretty sure we will sign at least one more before August. Salgado and Rothen would not have been over otherwise.

Its just a cas of juggling the wage bill. Something will happen. Hope its a good thing!

We can do better then Zurab. His game against Dundee United pretty much set out why we should get rid of him. He is a liability and for as long as we can get decent money for him, he should be for sale.

Gally is down to the last year of his contract which means we sell now, give him a new deal or lose him for free next summer.

Dunn is whether we like it or not, one of our more creative players, when he can get himself onto the pitch. Unless someone flies in and buys the club, we are not going to have the money in the future to replace the likes of him and Gamst, so we need to offer them new deals now whilst we can.

Could someone tell me if the Walker Trusties have stopped giving the club their 3 million a season? Also, does anyone know what is going on with Gamst's contract talks?

Steven Reid apparetly came through 45 minutes fine in a 5-0 friendly win against Wrexham the other day: http://www.eleven-a-side.com/acrossthewater/news.asp?n=36926

Reid will be ok this season - other incentive is he will want to play in the world cup finals. Afterwards is a different matter - folg him before he gets injured again ( january)

Exactly the point that I made earlier today. Those were the noises that were coming out of the club though.

Which suggests to me that Sam thought he could grab a bargain, if you like, in Kalinic in order to have some money left over. This obviously hasn't happened.

That's irrelevant! He can't try harder not to get injured. If anything it might make him push a little bit too hard, he needs to be introduced very, very slowly.

I think there is money to spend provided we shift some people off the wage bill. The problem we are having is the people we want to sell are injured or do not have a buyer.

From the way preseason panned out I would imagine Sam would be open to offers for McCarthy, Pedersen, Reid, Grella, Zurab and Gally. Problem is no one will match their wages and they represent poor value for anyone.

So we are in a catch 22 situation. The only players we can move off our wage bill are desirable ones like Warnock who we don't want to lose.

No, he said it was possible. It wasn't a difficult post to understand.

No he didn't. He said that JW would have given him the contract irrespective of what Allardyce thought because he already promised Keith.

I don't know why you feel the need to make things up.

The issue wasn't whether or not Sam knew, it was the inference that JW would have given him a contract even if Sam had said he didn't want him. Which is obviously rubbish.

Bouma has been out since this time last year and he isn't resuming training until the end of this month. There are doubts about his condition but the noises have been positive from MON and co. He isn't getting any younger though.

Nicky Shorey was a panic signing if ever I saw one. Freddie got injured, and LB wasn't a position we were even contemplating signing a player imo, as we had Barry who could tuck in there also if Bouma was out for a couple of games. Bouma got a long term injury, the season was approaching, we needed a LB - in comes Nicky Shorey.

Shorey, though vastly improved towards the end of the season, has been a bit of a liability, and seems to bring this nervousness to the back 4. He isn't a top 8 player imo. He lacks the pace of a good fullback and his tackling and reading of the game leaves a lot to be desired. The fact that Luke Young played the majority of games at LB last year shows MON isn't comfortable with Nicky. I expect him to be one to leave next summer.

Warnock is a signing the Villa need to create some balance and is a vast improvement on Shorey. It would allow Young to go back to RB (bar Petrov, he was probably our player of the season last year), and would allow Cuellar to play CB with Davies, instead of RB where he seemed to play when fit last season.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Campbell, Distin and Warnock come in over the next week. £4m was a joke offer. I'm not sure MON will go any higher than £8-9m though. Highest we have ever paid is £12m for Milner and he's 22. Downing was £10m, rising to £12m. Will be interesting to see how high we go.

You seem in good shape after the Santa Cruz deal, so I suppose there is no real reason in selling the lad unless he states he wants to go. Watch this space I suppose.

JW is patching up a sinking ship. Is it only a matter of time before we sink? The most important thing is the survival of Blackburn Rovers, so if JW decides that spending £2m on a players could have detrimental effects on the clubs finances then fair play to him not spending it. We have enough talent in the squad (when fit) to match the bottom half of this league but injuries are definitely going to hinder us this season. The worrying factor is the pool of potential relegation candidates is getting smaller and smaller each season and we are not one of those pulling away from it!

Back on topic, I hope before the end of the transfer window we still have Warnock. That would be the best singing of the window in my opinion. A leader, committed, can play in various positions and pretty much my favourite player at the club!

What is it with you Villa Boys - first Alan Wright now Stevie Warnock

Do't normally do this and could be old news just rearing its head- but Spurs fan here at work has been questioning of Samba - appears the rumour mill is about at WHL again.

And then you asked him if that meant that Sam didn't know about it. Like I told you, he said it was possible Sam didn't know, not that it was fact.

A year on from Ince and you're still thick as sh1t.

I actually think the opposite to that. Three weaker teams have come up this season and the likes of Wigan and Portsmouth have weakened. Bolton will be around the bottom half as will Stoke and Hull will be in real danger this season. That's at least eight worse teams than us on paper.

If we have a good season we could jump above Fulham/West Ham and finish tenth or better still above Spurs in ninth. We may not have the best team in the league but with Sam, regardless of personnel, we will finish at least twelth. I am not worried in the slightest about relegation.....................one more year survived until the finance in football bursts

Apparently this is a web-site where you can adapt it to fit any player. On a Villa board this said Harewood.
