Kelbo Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I dont get the situation with Van Der Meyde - is he here for good or what? Iam told Rovers are letting him train and keep fit whilst he finds a club!! I think thats quire fair as they did it with Flintoff to get him fit a while back! I am not happy that what little money we have left is being spent on a player and position that is not a priority. Nicko are we looking at central midfield players or does Sam think that Salgado will play there? If the comment that he would play as Hierro played at Bolton is correct, that was a holding player in a midfield three which suggests a 4-3-3 formation!

Kelbo Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 That is quite generous I think! Might be trying to earn a contract s well but I cant see it!!
John Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 You talking about the cricket guy or about Flitty?. Flintoff has used our training ground for rehab from injuries.
Taggart Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Roll on the end of the transfer window for me ! i think we have done some good business this year compared to past years ! we have a young strike force with potential, some youth been injected in to the midfield, right back addressed and signing of Givet as well ! we have healthy competition across the team ! Maybe they will free up some money in january if the centre midfield needs addressing, i.e Grella / Reid / Emo / Dunny stay unfit I know it would be nice to have that last quality player brought in for the centre midfield, but are we askign too much with what we have already got, will we every be happy ? i can`t wait for the season to start as i`m excited about watching Rovers again, really looking forward to seeing the two young lads upfront and Hoillet. I think we have a squad capable of mid table,a nd if we exceed like we did under Hughes a possibility of 8th place or so dependent on performance and starts of the "bigger clubs" I`m happy with what BFS has done so far.

Finally we can get down to business, come Saturday. Hoping we can get off to a flier and maybe the traditional mid-table teams can get off to a bad start.
greggyk Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Sam told Talksport this morning that Kalinic wont be ready till about 6 or 7 games in btw.. you can listen to his interview on the website
Hi Mack Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Sam told Talksport this morning that Kalinic wont be ready till about 6 or 7 games in btw.. you can listen to his interview on the website I heard that! Anyone else slightly concerned about it? 6.4M on a striker and hes not ready? Physically?Mentally? Very strange!
Kelbo Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Sam told Talksport this morning that Kalinic wont be ready till about 6 or 7 games in btw.. you can listen to his interview on the website He will ease him in gently, with young players, thats the way and he can get to the pace as a sub when the opposition tire somewhat, hopefully a goal will give him the confidence to kick on!!
modes98 Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Until then we have Di Santo, McCarthy, Roberts, Gally. I would hope we will see him on the bench before then. Can't wait to see him banging in the goals. Anyone else slightly concerned about it? 6.4M on a striker and hes not ready? Physically?Mentally? Very strange! I think Sam said he had very little in terms of pre season so they have to build him up. Due to a contractual dispute, which is why we got him cheaper than we should have.
Hughesy Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 The 11 o'clocker is a bit early...but got some things to do... SALGADO...Sam very bullish on this one...including a funny reference to 'someone taking his picture in the Northcote Manor'.. Ha what did he say Nicko?
Backroom Tom Posted August 13, 2009 Backroom Posted August 13, 2009 I'll actually be quite happy with the window if we get Salgado, obviously a centre mid would be nice but alas.
JAL Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I heard that! Anyone else slightly concerned about it? 6.4M on a striker and hes not ready? Physically?Mentally? Very strange! You make me laugh some of you people, what so strange about that, the lads been injured, comes to a new country on his own never seen his new team mates before, hasnt a clue how they play. What the ....
greggyk Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 He also goes on to say that we had the chance to take a look at Negredo at Madrid- but we couldn't afford it, so he's taken a risk with Kalinic........ .....
Kelbo Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I'd rather have Rothen than Salgado. I am sorry, you dont know your football then, How many players have stayed at Real and played for 10 years?? This guy is quality and I predict him to become a legend at Ewood, he will play a holding midfield role and will be mint, trust me!!
AJW Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Sam told Talksport this morning that Kalinic wont be ready till about 6 or 7 games in btw.. you can listen to his interview on the website rather surprising that........especially when RVN was ruled out as a transfer target coz he wouldn;t be fit til september
Big Fat Sam Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I am sorry, you dont know your football then, How many players have stayed at Real and played for 10 years?? This guy is quality and I predict him to become a legend at Ewood, he will play a holding midfield role and will be mint, trust me!! Football whats that??? this is a S.O.C.C.E.R. thread!!! I think we lack creativity and Salgado can be as good as you say but he's not going to create as many chnaces as Rothen could. Rothen can cross and we have two 6 footers up front so I'd rather improve that area instead. I don't doubt his ability but if I could only squeeze one more in the door it would be a creative player.
spencey7 Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 rather surprising that........especially when RVN was ruled out as a transfer target coz he wouldn;t be fit til september My thoughts exactly. I expect we'll see Kalinic by the end of August, he's been training with the first team for weeks now.
nicko Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 SALGAD0...is THE priority as far as Sam is concerned...he was actually drooling about him today...clever tactic to put the pressure on the chairman to get it done. WARNOCK...Villa bid mile short...could happen if a lot more cash...but Sam basicallly saying he doesn't have to sacrfice him and won't so...obviously a big bid changes that...wonder what the player thinks? Nothing else really 'live' but the Norhtcote Manor story was funny...think I was the only one who got the joke about 'wanting to ring the neck' of the guy who took the picture...which I should stress was said with a smile on his face. Salgado is a Big Sam Deal if ever I saw one...he wants this one badly. Sam told Talksport this morning that Kalinic wont be ready till about 6 or 7 games in btw.. you can listen to his interview on the website I think what he means is 'completely ready' - but expect to see the kid before that...possibly even on Saturday on the bench.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 If the board decide not to back Big Sam and decide against buying Salgado, do you think Big Sam will just accept it considering our financial position or would he be very annoyed at the board?
thenodrog Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Why 'own' a football club then? If they dont want to put money into the club sell it for a sum which would get people interested. Grief! Don't tell me that you don't know that they are trying like hell to sell it? BRFC is a bloody poisoned chalice that poor old Jack W left em with. We even have a dedicated topic on here about it.

Mc Love Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I am really excited about Kalinic, hope he is a class signing for us! If he is another roberts, i might just cry
