Nikola Kalinić (born 5 January 1988 in Solin) is a Croatian football striker currently playing for Hajduk Split and the Croatian national team. Croatia manager Slaven Bilić has described him as "the future of Croatian football"

Sounds good <_<

Is that honestly the best you could do? Seriously? I appreciate the effort but you're really not very good at this.

Anyway, looking forward to Kalinic coming in. On the work permit front, are we looking at this as being a straightforward situation or is it a realistic deal breaker??

Di Santo just has to arrive now I take it.

Shaping up quite nicely. Sam has done some really decent work this summer.

You have to present the contract for the player and agree a deal with the club. Realistically you can only do that once the deal is agreed by all sides.

On the faceof it Kalinic does not qualify - only three caps in the last year or so is not enough. However he can make a case for being an 'emerging' player or that he was injured.

You got Hoilett in with absolutely no caps or qualifications, so this should be ok. But it is never done until it's done.

Correct - work contracts must be submitted as a part of the permit application.

Do they need to advertise his job locally, also?!!

I would think that with a fee of that large agreed it will be easier to make the case - the only worry is the rumor/urban legend that each club can only push one borderline case past every year or two.

Fair enough. Took it the wrong way, apologies.

Surely these two striking arrivals spell the end for Gally at the club? he isnt going to get a look in now. Also, if Di Santo is coming as a starter, Kalinic/McCarthy/Roberts are going to have their work cut out. I thought we had it good with Roque/McCarthy but if Kalinic and Di Santo arrive, id say our forward line looks stronger than it probably ever has.

P.S. If by being "deliberately awkward" you mean I think we are hopelessly ill equipped for the season coming up without signing two decent strikers and at least one decent central midfielder then yes, sorry, I'll have to carry on being "awkward." If your opinion is different, that's fine and you're perfectly entitled to it, that doesn't make you "awkward" either.

Have to say Rev I think that's a masive overstatement. Even if no one else comes in, it's hard to say that we are ill equipped for the new campaign. It's the same group of players, who in the latter half of last season, produced european football form, but with less players injured. Added in that all the vibes coming from the rovers camp (official and unofficial) are good this year, and we'll have a good pre-season under our belt with a competent manager, it's hard to see how we are hopelessly ill equipped for the new campaign. Put it this way, I can think of at least 7 clubs who would trade places with us in an instant.

Having said that I also agree with you that IF we are going to do better than mid table (looking at teams like Pompey, Hull and the promoted trio it's hard to envisage us struggling too badly) then we do need all three of the players that you say. A midfielder who can pass the ball well and a top class striker to me are essential, and it looks like eventually we'll have them in place. But until it's a done deal and those players are in I think mid table mediocracy is about our level.

Keeping this vaguely on topic, all this striker business sounds exciting. A quality striker at a good price, with money to strengthen other areas. I'd rather have one new striker and a top quality central midfielder then two new strikers.

we'll own kalinic, for 7m its in our best interests he plays and improves. He's guarenteed to start surely. Don't know how chelsea could expect di santo to start ahead of him, more important to blood the player we'll own.

The club must be strongly considering shipping out benni now, i can't see how he'll get the playing time to justify having his wages on the books....he's surely on too much money to be a back up player.

bar warnock is there actually any interest in any of our players?

Im curious whether the Croat midfielder who unleaded mentioned is really interesting us or its just a fan's opinion of what would be good for us. Seems a classy player, and I would like a creative type player brought in.

On a side note, I think missing on Pogrebnyak at that price is a big blow, especially if we are paying more for Kalinic who is unproven still.

Shipping Benni out would be risky - Kalinic is untried in the EPL - and may take time to settle - we have to have proven options up front. The only way I would consider selling Benni would be for a ridiculous amount - with somebody (e.g. RVN, Gudjonson) lined up to replace him.

NIKOLA Transfer Saga...Runners and Riders.......... Hopefuls..........Dreamers..................

Blackburn –Offer the best conditions and willing to pay as soon as possible. Transfer to the universal satisfaction should be completed by the end of the week.

Porto – - Never did not officially confirm there interest and submit a bid, it is probably the bluff Kalinic manager Erceg, to escape from Portsmouth to Blackburn.

Portsmouth – Paul Hart was in love with Kalinic, was offered 7.5 million euros, but not immediately, but only after New Year's, when wealthy sheik filled the club fund.

Zaragoza – Offer the 6 million euro in the next three years - time has not agreed to the installment loan business and has failed.

Valencia - first came to the official negotiations in Split, but their offer of 7.5 million Hajduk immediately rejected.

Bologna - they want to buy half a ¨ ¨ Kalinic three million, so ga after years of playing in Serie A sell equally with time. Hajduk rejected such a possibility.

Napoli - They were interested in Kalinic-but after a few games yourself odgledanih gave up from engagement with the explanation that does not meet their criteria.

Werder - We are the lead Kalinic or Mandžukića. Mamic refused their offer, Kalinic them was too expensive and gave up.

Hope Rovers team him up with the excellent Midfeilder Senijad Ibričić who is the missing jigsaw .......Rovers have scouted him.................. both Blackburn and Stoke have been linked with him.............

in my opinion if Benni can get fit playing along side Kalinic then he will be a very important player for us. Still our best striker. Not sure where this leaves Di Santo. Got to admit, pretty excited about the new season

tbh i think its roberts who must be most concerned , he has played second fiddle to benni and RSC for the last 2 seasons , and then RSC and derbs leave and 2 more strikers come in and he's back to square one

Pogretcetc's heart wasn't in the move it's as simple as that..the fact he LAUGHED off our interest speaks for itself. Stuttgart are in the Champs Lge (I think) and I rekon he will even be using them as a stepping stone..so I don't really think we 'missed out' on him as such..

Kalinic looks a prospect and a half, and his youth could very well mean that he doesn't have the fear factor, and as someone previously said the excitment if watching him flourish is a massive reason enough to be cheerful, add into the mix season tickets sales are going well (a packed Ewood to look forward to) and around 6 or 7m left for a midfielder left in the pot then there are...REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL...1.2.3.

What a difference a week makes..the place is a was with optimism...il be the first to admit I was becoming bemused at the lack of BIG transfer activity, but refrained from expressing these opinions in writing as I knew something would most likley come along to shout about, and it looks like it has in the shape of Kalinic..

I reckon if we can keep hold of Benni, and keep him fit, and Nikola lives up to half the expectation we have a hot partnership on our hands..I would actually prefer Di Santo to fall through than lose Benni Mac..

Also, does anyone know if the urban legend/rumour someone bought up about the home office only allowing one boarderline work permit case to be pushed through per team, per season is actually true??..perhaps this is one our learned friend Nicko could clear up for us?
