McClarky Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Kilinic is the only player we have realistically been linked to this summer who looks exciting so I will be well chuffed if we sign him. Fair enough, he may turn out to be a dud but at least it is a signing which could come off and he is up and coming and sought after by a lot of clubs. A bit of a coup I think.

John Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Nicko, you mentioned a while back that Sam usually likes older strikers (when we were being linked with Kevin Davies). His track record in the market suggests this too. Personally, I am surprised he is potentially bringing in two young strikers who both have never played in the Premership - why the change of view do you think? Due to the fact we cannot attract (or afford) anyone else of reasonable quality (without going down the route of Zamora and the likes)?
nicko Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 One-time Rovers 'target' Marouane Chamakh is on the move at Bordeaux...pulled out of their game tonight...shrewd money says Arsenal...but don't discount Sunderland. Nicko, you mentioned a while back that Sam usually likes older strikers (when we were being linked with Davies etc). His track record suggests this two. Due to the fact we cannot attract (or afford) anyone else of reasonable quality (without going down the route of Zamora and the likes)? Fair point. Sam usually likes them with miles on the clock. But Kalinic came up at the right time and probably on the rebound from the rather strange Poggy affair. Di Santo has always been a 'bonus ball' from the word go. A cheap deal for a player who could just hit the jackpot. There is never any real planning in transfer windows...things just happen.
Stuart Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Nicko, not sure if this has been directly asked before but if Di Santo sets the world alight and one of Chelsea's forwards gets injured, under the loan terms could they immediately recall him - leaving us in the S H one T?
nicko Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I don't think Premier League loan players can go back to their 'parent' clubs when a window is shut. In fact, I'm sure they can't...unless the rules have been changed again.
Taggart Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Deleted 4 pages of off topic posts and issued warnings. There'll be nobody left if people keep getting banned for taking this thread off topic, at least it'll be more manageable then. Amen to that ! I thought I was reading a film script called "handbags at dawn"

In fact, I'm sure they can't...unless the rules have been changed again. Has there not been times when a club, due to injuries / suspensions, have recalled players on loan? Anyhow, if not, could it not be written into any loan agreement at the beginning ( ie due to this reason, we hold the right to recall the player)?

Once the window is shut in the Premier League in September it stays that way until January 1...don't think there are any exceptions.
mellison24 Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Amen to that ! I thought I was reading a film script called "handbags at dawn" OI!!! At 'dusk'! I have the scripts here.... Anyway, I'm sure I'm not alone in being stupidly optimistic for the coming season? We have the potential to win all our games b4 confronting the big 4 methinks!! Though ManCity may be tricky....I'd take a draw with that one.
Doaksie Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Any substance to these rumours Nicko - Sam Allardyce is keen to bring Angulo to Ewood Park as a replacement for Roque Santa Cruz who left the club for Manchester City earlier this summer. If signed, he will be paired with Croatian international Nikola Kalinic who is expected to sign for Rovers in the next few days. Would seem strange, what with Di Santo seemingly on his way, unless of course there have been unfortunate developments on that one. Full article below: Angulo
American Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 43 in 314 for a forward? Davies like numbers....
deftangel Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Surely there is no way we could afford Angulo? More to the point, signing someone rather than getting Di Santo for a year on the cheap eats the budget for the midfielder.
Doaksie Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 43 in 314 for a forward? Davies like numbers.... Important to remember though, he's not always employed as a forward. Played many games on the right of midfield (ala Diouf). I've always admired him, just unsure if he's what's currently needed.
Sandiway Blue Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 43 in 314 for a forward? Davies like numbers.... And older too....wouldn`t be keen TBH.
Commondore Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Our almost discarded target Oscar Cardozo just scored two goals against Pompey in a pre-season game, one freekick in off the crossbar and one header.
S15 Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Angulo is a very good player. Don't care where he plays, we don't have enough of those.
budha Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 The original spanish article seems to have just linked Bolton due to their earlier interest in veterans such as Campo and us due to Allardyce being at Bolton during that period.
Ricky Posted August 2, 2009 Author Posted August 2, 2009 Thought he looked pretty good against arsenal yesterday.
Hughesy Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Looks like Bunn has gone Sheff Utd - he was on the pitch at thier open day.
John Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Looks like Bunn has gone Sheff Utd - he was on the pitch at thier open day. Indeed, from a Sheffield Utd site: Blackburn Rovers keeper Mark Bunn was on the pitch in a Blades shirt, pretty much confirming the rumours that we'd agreed terms for a loan deal for him.
Veevs Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I presume no 11 o'clock update tonight mr Nixon? Well two weeks to go strikers look to be pretty much sorted *touch wood etc* We do look much stronger than last year in my opinion and most certainly we have allot more youth in the team with pretty good prospective profits.. just the signing of a central midfielder and we will be laughing. We also seem to of shaved a chunk of our wage bill (Tugay, RSC, Ooijer, Rigters, Derbs and the Axe must of been on a fair ammount more than those we got in so far inc potential strikers) Forgive me if this is difficult to understand or I am wrong here but is the idea to reduce the wage bill not in direct relation to revenue? Rather than by a set sum.. as in overall percentage, so if we sell players totalling 21m (Derbs/RSC et al) buy in 14m (Kalanic, Nzonzi, Givet et al), repay 3-4m on loans/overdrafts then the remaining 3-4m goes onto the wage structure to a degree as increased turnover reduces wage percentage? Shame about Prog but I trust after the effort put in (flying out there etc) there must be a reason we did not bid in the end..
LeChuck Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 How strong are the links to Ibricic? Are they just rumours are is there something pretty concrete? I know it's only YouTube, but he does look brilliant in those videos, he seems the sort of player that could really thrive in the Premier League.
nicko Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Small update. ANGULO - interesting one, could be right if other things develop - like wide men leaving. BUNN - might get to 50 by the end of the week. GALLY - interest growing, hoping something may be in paper by the morning. BURNLEY - if you want to know how hard up they were last season read the Mirror tomorrow...very revealing although I say so myself. Loads happening elsewhere. Man City into Bassong and Delph in a big way. Prayer mates out for Bent to Sunderland and a 16 to 1 shot coming in.

I think it started with people suggesting names they hope we go for. Not sure anyone credible is reporting him as a target yet.

I for one would not be happy if that happened.
