Most of the papers state this morning that the two strikers Sam wants are Kalinic and Benjani.

Sam: “We are trying to sort it out. It lies in the hands of both clubs sorting out the financial aspect of it and, like I said, hopefully this can be done by the middle of next week. Not just Kalinic, but at least another one if we can.”

Allardyce has also turned his attentions to Benjani after being snubbed by a host of targets and believes he can land him in a £5m deal. Zimbabwe striker Benjani is way down the pecking order at Eastlands and Mark Hughes would allow him to go for a cut-price fee.

Firstly, don't particularly rate Benjani and the price quoted is £5 million, plus he is injury prone. Also, where does this leave Di Santo.........?

3 separate morning papers have both the croatian and benjani joining us next week, with benni out `injured` for the start of the season. read between the lines on that. it`s not a case of sam wanting benni out, it`d be a case of benni wanting to return to europe to play. benjani is a proven premier league goalscorer who`s been a victim of circumstance at city, and sam has very little time to replace benni if he`s dropped a bombshell that he wants away.

i may be totally wrong, but i can`t see us running with 5 first team strikers(assuming kalinic, di santo and benjani join) when we has to cut the wage bill for this season.

If Benni wants out the way for him to do it is to stay fit and score goals, not to be out injured.

pedersen takes all corners and free kicks, he's obviously gonna be top assist man. I have been fed up for a couple of seasons with his corners, he is just useless at them.............whoever replaces him at this minute in time really won't have to break sweat to at least match pedersens current level of impact.

now treacy is gone as well we might be able to get some real quality on the left.............can we expect some daily mirror articles to start an auction. linked to the spurs and uniteds of the world 3-4 seasons ago, best we could hope for now is a bidding war between hull and stoke.

completely agree - pedersen should be removed from corner duty, his inability to clear the front man is particulary frustrating as he cocks it up time and time again. And, he has been dismal with his direct free kicks ever since he got the duty back from Bents when he left. i think Benni Mac would take better delivery of the direct free kicks, and quite happy to leave Diouffy with the corners as per the end of last season.

Anyone know what the delivery is like on the new boys ? any set piece experts in there ?

Elrio is very good at corners and free kicks

It sounds to me that Benjani would be a replacement for Gallagher if Nicko is to be believed. Although i've always thought Gallagher was better on the wing....

So we're going to buy a 5th choice striker for £5M who's on £50k/wk. Right.

Who said anything about £50'000 p/w? Also, Benni will be leaving in the next year or so and Di Santo will be going the year after when his loan finishes (if he comes at all) so it makes sense to get cover before you're desperate for it whilst the going rate is cheap.

Don't forget that most fees are less than what they are publicised as being, I believe IF we go for him, the fee would more likely be three million or so which isn't bad.

So we'll have cover for Benni by buying a 9 month younger Benjani, who's not good enough to clean Benni's shoes?

Fingers crossed there's nothing concrete in the Benjani-rumours.

Or Vela?

Wilshere is being touted as a world cup hopeful and starred at the weekend, with the players he has lost, I cant see Wenger letting Jack go, a quality young player!!

Benjani? just cant see that, how would he fit into the system and he's not worth money, he hasnt played first team for 12 months!!

And if we're getting Di Santo, that fills our quota of loans from other PL teams.

Well are we really getting Di Santo? I mean how long has the deal taken to conclude especially when you'd think that with the season under two weeks away, Di Santo would be up in a flash to prepare....I'm fair cynical of this deal from what I know of it...

All things considered (fee, wages, Di Santo aspect and likely loss of Benni) Benjani woud be a horrible signing. Horrible.

He's not that bad really. Not one to set the world alight but if we get him for decent wages and a smallish fee than it wouldn't be the worst piece of business. He was unfortunate with the City move because he was playing well down at Pompey prior to that.

Di Santo would have been here some time ago if this deal were really going to happen.

Hope I'm wrong but it's fairly clear the player is not coming.

I'm in the same boat as you jim. It's funny that Benjani's name is getting a mention if these two deals are just being concluded. You could put it down to lazy journalism but the transfer of Benjani has got a fair bit of press for a rumour.

If Di Santo doesn't happen today then we may see Benjani on his way later this week.

It has been the trend with rovers for a while, a good set piece taker comes in and within about 2 months they can't take corners anymore. I don't know how many corners we scored from last year but it won't have been enough to boost him up that much. His assists have come from his crosses, and god knows how because they have been awful as well.

I'm not saying we shouldn't replace him, all I am saying is that we need a good player lined up otherwise goals will be hard to come by, unless our right winger starts creating.

Wonder if Wenger would be willing to loan Wilshire out to get a bit of experience?

I think there would be a lot of clubs in that queue. The kid is pure quality, even at such a young age.

Wide men could also be Warnock to Villa.....

I would have thought that it's highly unlikely that both will leave. I'm sure that Sam would rather Ped be off the wage bill than Warnock.

Yeah................. Someone elses. ;)

Strange thing is that the person most certain of that happening is AN, otherwise I'm sure that a lot more would share your viewpoint.

Just as an aside to that Pederson took an unstoppable penalty v Roma. Wonder why he's never been considered for that before? He'd have made BM's recent contributions look a little sick if he had.

Indeed.

Chelsea flew back to the UK early last week. Both Rovers and Chelsea have played the following weekend. Neither hide nor hair has been seen of Di Santo.

How many players decide - and are allowed to take - a week off at such a crucial stage of the season? He's already fallen a week behind the rest of the lads (and missed vital playing time).

Meanwhile Kalinic showed how easy it is. You just need to trap with a toothbrush and your boots. Given the choice, I'm sure he would have jumped at the chance to play at Hillsborough on Saturday as well.

Rovers must decide at what point sympathy stretches in to indulgence.

Di Santo is hardly enamouring himself with the management or his new team mates with this attitude.
