7M is serious money.... i'd sell him for that.

warnock is all action and commited but he is vastly overated as a defender. we have givet... and i think ollsen will make the grade, providing he's given time and experience.

yup

plus he was player of the season last year so he has to go. spot a pattern?

2005–06 Craig Bellamy

2006–07 David Bentley

2007–08 Roque Santa Cruz

2008-09 Stephen Warnock

New set of rules have come in...even more confusing...

Wigan and Rovers have tested them so far and both got players in who would probably not have been allowed in before.

It's now known as 'permission to work' as well. You could not make it up.

Do you have a more recent link/copy.

Very interesting to see sams comments about the diouff fee. I recall nicko suggesting it was over 2m. If it was the reported 1m it was a very good piece of business

Nicko - are you able to clarify this at all? Was Diouf's fee actually as low as 1m?

This time let's ask the baord to make one up then? Benni or any of our crocked midfielders this time round for me! LOL

I think Sam has to make a big decision on the midfield this week. Does he go into the 1st half of the season relying on the 'established' players, or does he look to retool the entire thing?

The big risk is that, out of the injured foursome of Emerton, Reid, Dunn and Grella, only Emerton can be relied upon to get fit and even then he's a bench midfielder for me. On the left, neither MGP nor Warnock cut the mustard. Diouf, much as I think he is past it, will be Sam's only firm starter out of the four.

IMO, it's time to bite the bullet. Sell Warnock - he's not our best LB and not a good midfielder. Sell MGP - without his free kicks of 3 years ago he offers nothing and Givet's throw is only a couple of yards shorter. Let contracts run down on Dunn and Reid - they might start a few games while the youngsters bed in. Then look to buy three midfielders with the rest of the kitty plus what we pull in.

I agree with selling Pedersen, don't agree with selling Warnock though. Givet isn't a full back, he's a makeshift left sided defender whose best position really is as a centre back. He offers nothing going forward. If we sell Warnock then we are left with Olsson as our only left sided full back, from what i've seen of him he isn't good enough.

Selling Warnock will mean we will have to bring in another full back imo and full backs of his quality don't come cheap.

I can't beleive I'm reading this. Not only is Warnock our best LB but, behind Emerton, he is also the best player on our books now that Roque has gone. He has performed consistently well ever since Hughes brought him in, despite playing out of position in midfield under Ince. He is not a left winger, he is not a CM - although he can do a decent enough job there on a temporary basis - but he is a damned good LB, one of the best in the league outside the top four. Selling him would be a big mistake. Selling him for just £7m would be utter madness!

On a different issue, if Sam managed to get Diouf for just £1m, then that is an absolutely fantastic deal.

 seem to remenber lardarse playing warnock in midfield, warnock is a average player and a bid of £7 million should not be overlooked <_<

So Wayne Bridge is better than Warnock ?

I think not.

No, but City aren't in for Warnock are they...Its Villa...they aren't gonna pay 15m....If it was city, then we could get 15m I reckon...

So, I think Bouma would be valuable to us and 10m would be acceptable.

Selling Warnock would be a mistake.

Question for me is this is now the second summer where he has been strongly linked away is he after a move or is he happy at Rovers. If he doesn't want out then he's a keeper for me, unless it get silly. He's the only real left side threat we have we can't afford to lose him as well.

But silly for me would be 15M Bridge may have more caps but he's no where near as versitile as Warnock.

We'll just have to wait and see.

You are a sad, sad man if you hate Allardyce so much, it drives you away from paying your money TO the rovers at Ewood and choosing to pay other clubs to watch us at away games. You aren't a rovers fan by anybody's standards. There are turds in swimming pools that make more sense than you. Just to keep this on Topic, I'd demand AT LEAST 15million for our player of the year. What is your point re: warnock in midfield? Did he not play a blinder in that game against fulham? His tackle to stop Andy Johnson putting them 2-0 up was THE turning point in our season for me. Only THEN did I believe it was possible for us to stay up.

If you paid a visit down to Ewood now and then you would realise that Warnock isn`t an average player. In today`s market you would have to be looking at bids to start around £10m.

Warnock has been an excellent signing and I cannot see us replacing him for similar quality for £7m. Neither do we have enough quality to cover him if he did leave. MON wouldn't want him if he wasn't a great player.

Even if Givet looks good we've not seen him regularly at left back, Olsson needs too much work then we're out of left sided defenders.

Selling him would be insane.

Take the £7 million - then send Pedersen - MON has never been good with names...

selling him WITHOUT A REPLACEMENT would. and as all the efforts have gone into finding strikers recently, i can't see that we've got anyone lined up, so i can't see him going unless it's for daft money.

Givet is effectively Warnocks LB replacement.

Warnocks a very good player but an offer in excess of 10 million would be too much to turn down.

I was amazed he won player of the season to be honest, there was a period before christmas where he was our worst player, his display and attitude away at Wigan is amongst the worst I've seen in a Rovers shirt.

I've read Nicko referring to the fees, such as Kalinic most recently, as the transfer fee and first year of wages as our "cost". So if Diouf had a million in transfer fees and another million for his first year wages, it would make sense.
