Some people here are so negative. The lad has been impressive in pre-season, comes highly rated, and Chelsea are only releasing him for six months so he's clearly important. Let's have a little optimism, please.

We are Rovers fans! We don't do optimism ^_^

I think we were told it was a season long loan!!

Now not being negative, the issue of what happens to a style of play which could centre around the lad, if he did as well as I expect, he will take some replacing, however, they may lend us Sturridge for the latter half of the season if Di Santo goes back!

Now that is being positive!! :D

Probably nothing we didn't know already, but Sky Sports now running the headline Rovers 'complete' Kalinic deal, using the quotes from his agent, saying the deal is completed, barring the work permit.

"It is finished, the transfer is completed. Now all Nikola needs is a work permit, which shouldn't be problem," Erceg told Sportske novosti.

Must be a reasonably new quote, cause the article references the Di Santo signing at the bottom of the page.

Sky Sports article

Optimistic now??

Nice to see a couple of new faces up front.

Di Santo was always going to be subject to Chelsea having some kind of recall. Its the African Nations this year so if they had an injury to Drogba he will get a chance there, if not he gets games at Ewood.

A decent midfielder and we can start the season with some confidence

Well I can't claim to know anything about either player, but I'm feeling optimistic about them for some reason. Certainly got some options up front now.

With the A C of N then its very likely Di Santo will be recalled by Chelsea.

Good spot mate, now it makes sense. Wonder if he'll go back for the month of Jan then come back at the end of the window. Is that even allowed?

Rather have Di Santo in on loan than sign some of the donkeys we've been linked with in the press. I know the best we can hope for long term is that he declines to celebrate when he someday scores a hat trick past us for Chelsea but he seems like a very talented lad who will do a lot more for a lot cheaper than Benjani or Crouch.

A 21 year old and a 20 year to potentially lead our attack. Got to be one of the youngest striking combos in the PL.

Very exciting stuff.

Now, do we dare hope that Sam can get a creative maestro in the midfield before the window closes or are we asking too much? If we did that it'd be the best window I could have possibly imagined.

The 6 month loan deal could also be the reason why we are trying to sign other forwards, e.g. Gillas and Ellington.

Nicko- can you confirm if we have actually paid a loan fee for Di Santo or is it simply wages and what do you think the likelihood is that Chelsea will recall him in January to cover strikers playing in the ACN?

will sam and/or the board still want a "marquee" signing ? di santo and kalinic are both young exciting prospects , but neither you would class as glamourous, just wonder if there could be a former world biggie coming in midfield beckham would be nice :D

We haven't heard from Nicko for a while. He's either toasting his success or staying ahead of the game and chasing the latest on Ellington/new midfielder....

Probably the latter I'd wager.

Overrated and past it. Sam would want him to put too much in over 90 mins and there's no way he would want to be associated with BRFC either.

In an inflated transfer market, we have done excellent so far. Sam has taken a risk going for youth, but well worth taking.

Wait, you're telling me Paul Ince was wrong!! It can be done - weird!!!

What may be slightly worrying are the comments from Big Sam on an interview he did with Rovers World where he stated that he expects to sign two strikers BUT stated quite categorically that ANY player purchased now would not start the first 6-8 games of the season!! Is this is a bluff and a way of deflecting pressure away from the players?

Also- BBC are reporting that Kalinic could cost us £12 million, is this figure correct?

I'd say Kalinic is our Marquee signing, its not often Rovers pay this much for a player these days, still a midfield playmaker is near essential.

Any chance of Jenas if we were to sell Warnock?

I know exactly what you mean and I know it isn't intended but I love the way you say WE have done well, then Sam gets the blame if it goes wrong for bringing in young players.

Just hope kalinic doesn't suffer the 7m rovers hoodoo. Davies, grabbi and Barry the jock. Hoping for good things from the lad and looking forward to seeing him on a rovers shirt.

Need to make sure we have someone who can put in decent set pieces on a consistent basis. With Di Santo (6 foot 4) Samba (6 foot 4), N'Zonzi (6 foot 3) and Kalinic (6 foot 1 1/2) in the side it would be foolish not to capitalise on the height we have.

If we could find a midfielder playmaker who can put in a decent set piece that would be brilliant.

Get a sitter in Midfield pay Becks £100k per week and laugh at the rest, we would be quids in and Beckham always puts a shift in, as for quality balls, there is no one better, plus corners and set pieces, worth 10 goals a season at least!!
