Steve Moss Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Danish papers say Juventus want to get rid... According to his wikipedia page, Juventus paid 9.75 million for him just last year, and he's on a 3 million a year contract. It would be tough to do, financially. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Poulsen

Backroom Tom Posted August 3, 2009 Backroom Posted August 3, 2009 Agreed, thanks Nicko you've made the pre season both bearable and unbearable at times, great info as per usual. Hope all is well. On the Kalinic thing, it would be madness on his part to play on wednesday, if he were to pick up an injuy before becoming a Rovers player who knows what would happen.
67splitscreen Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I'm going to be out of it for a while. Can we just leave it at that. Ta. Doesn't sound good, hope all is well nicko. good luck and cheers for the info.
Lurid Coat Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Hope all is well, Nicko. Thanks for the excellent information you've provided us with this summer. Getting close to that 50 mark now
Hughesy Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Looking back at the strikers Sam had available compared to now is a good way to see what he's doing to try and get us performing higher up again..
47er Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Thanks Nicko---you've been terrific, not just with the info but for tolerating the idiots who want to big themselves up by having a go at you.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 cheers nicko, made the off season a heck of a lot more interesting, really appreciate it. Well done to Sam. I cant remember the last time we were this active or bought such promising players. From the sinking ship in Dec to the patched up, make do and mend job which saw us over the line in May, and now to boasting a really decent all round squad, he has done terrificly with what is at his disposal. I dont think any of us could have expected him to have done any better.
unleaded Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 According to Gallagher's father in law , Judge is signing for plymouth on loan until January with the option of full season. As for Gally Forest, Derby and Coventry are interested.

I dont think any of us could have expected him to have done any better. Absolutely agree. We seem to have come along way since those dark days in December when it looked like we would be playing in a different league next season. How would that have felt with our friends down the road coming the other way. I would have been devastated!!!! If Sam can just get us a decent creative midfielder who can stay fit, it will have been a hell of a window for us!
Fraserkirky Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Nicko congratulations on the Di Santo deal although it was only half right, delighted to have him here, helluva player. Man I feel so much better having theses two guys in, how much budget is left? Enough for a creative midfielder. Achille Emana please BigSam I won't ask for anymore.
Steve Moss Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Not the most reliable, but http://www.fansfc.com/SpeculationDetails/1432.html is speculating that midfielder Joe Ledley is heading to Blackburn. He seems very good http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Ledley
roversmad95 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Not the most reliable, but http://www.fansfc.com/SpeculationDetails/1432.html is speculating that midfielder Joe Ledley is heading to Blackburn. He seems very good http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Ledley maybe if pedersen is leaving as reported on this board lately ledley would be a good replacement as he can play CM or left wing.... ledley and a CM (tugay replacement) as well as what we have, that would be to much to ask for...(but we could try)
Fylde Coast Fan Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I guess this is nicko's piece in the Mirror: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-21569793/ Kalinic joins in Big Sam treble Blackburn last night struck a deal for Croatia international Nikola Kalinic - as part of a treble striker swoop. The 21-year-old will sign from Hajduk Split subject to a work permit hearing on Thursday. He could cost up to £12million in a four-year deal. Rovers boss Sam Allardyce yesterday signed forward Franco Di Santo on loan from Chelsea for the first half of the season. And Nathan Ellington has joined on trial from Watford with a view to a season-long loan.
imy9 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Cheers Nicko for the info, hope everything is alright.
laughatthedingles Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 now it's been confirmed guess we can discuss it in here, this is the sort of response we give rigters!! Interesting to note he doesn't play during Ramadan:Ouch!!!!
Parsonblue Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Interesting article in the LT today in which Sam states that his spending for this transfer window is now at an end. The bank took half of the money that was received for Santa Cruz and Derbyshire and Sam states that the rest has now been spent. £4 million went on Givet, £6 million on Kalinic and the little that was left went on Nzonzi. He does mention the possiblity of selling someone to improve the team - one out and two in as he describes it - but is doubtful that he will opt to do that. If that is the case then it is vital that we get Dunn, Grella, Emerton and Reid fit as soon as possible.
Taggart Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Thanks for everything Nicko, I think that he is just looking in on some transfer that he has heard rumours of though. That would be good, but his post didn`t sound like that to me to be honest - he usually says he is going "dark" or something ! Would be different if he is off from the last couple of seasons when he seems to take a big break from posting after the window closes

We are probably about £10m better off with the bank if thats the case. Dont forget we had several areas identified as problems. No specialist right back - Jacobsen Signed No specialist right wing - Diouf Signed Lack of Strikers - 2 signed Pace and youth needed - Hoilett returned, NZonzi & Kalinic signed
Parsonblue Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I totally agree with you Hughesy. My only concern is that we get our injured midfielders fit as soon as possible. On the evidence of the Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday games I don't think a central midfield pairing of Andrews and Nzonzi would be good enough. However, once everyone is fit I think we have got a pretty decent squad together.
Bobby G Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Overall, if this is the end of our spending, we cant complain too much. I would say that a creative midfielder, Tugay-esque, is what is missing now. Even if we dont, and we get our current crop of Dunn, Grella and Reid fit, it wouldnt be the end of the world.
Hughesy Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Also lets not forget: Bank debt reduced Lots of deadwood shifted Wage bill reduced If we can have 1 of the injury 3 fit at any 1 time, which is realistic (Reid, Dunn & Grella) + 1 of N'Zonzi, Emerton, Warnock, Andrews then we should be fine - At least now we have the firepower to hurt teams, aswell as a solid defence unit.
Silencio Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I think it's a little disappointing if true. The midfield is still woefully inadequate. I think it looks like we will be selling Warnock if we are going to improve the midfield.

Whislt it wouldn't surprise me I suspect we have a little bit powder left. This is Sam's signal to the rest of the world that we are not loaded and will not be held to ransom. I suspect thats why we are seeing numbers like £12m being banded about for the transfer Kalinic, when its probably closer to £6m with possible extras.

Veevs Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Yeah I agree its disappointing.. while we are better off than last year, starting the season with most of our midfielders injured is worrying.. However comparing our transfer activity to most other clubs I am more than happy, we did very well in a tough close season. Its sad how TV money, prize money, a large chunk of cash from player sales, funds from a reduced wage bill, transfer funds from last season and a now none existent JW fund.. all have disappeared.. I guess we are running at a loss and sams transfer budget including for players he had already brought in (ala Givet) had to come from players sales (RSC/Derbs) I do hope its just a ploy on Sams side (MR Nixon did say that they where looking with a tugey type as a breif) so people don't demand silly fees should he find the midfielder.
