Majiball Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Keeping on-topic: Ricardo Quaresma? I'm sure many will scoff, but could a cheeky loan bid be worth it? Jose Mourinho has his doubts about him, and the guy failed to illuminate Chelsea so he can't be hot property right now. Tongue-in-cheek suggestion, to be honest. Inter have plenty of players they don't want. Wonder whats Sam s relationship with Mourinho is like?? I struggle to believe that a man as pragmatic as Sam will go into the season without a new central player, I hope its just Sam playing the madia game. I'd be tempted (depending on his re-hab is going) to try and Loan out Reid to a champioship club for the first part of the season and see how he gets on. On Warnock I had thought from pre-season that we might see a 442 this year with Steve and Emo bombing on from Full backs with two sitters in central midfield. We have no reliable central threat so its makes sense but only if Warnock stays. If he goes then I see changing because Givet is no threat going forward to his normal 433/451 because he always had Centre halfs/fullbacks playing i at Notlob. Warnocks performance at Wigan was dire, along with everyone else as well, they where not ready to start a premiership game that day. Blame falls on the monkey that designed the warm-up. Surely if we flog Gally for the supposed 1.5M or so and one other fringe player we could at least afford a loan signing for a year????? EDIT: To be fair to Shillito, MGP has not been hitting the heights he has in the past. Lets hope this is the year he steps up again because I thought he was once touted as Giggs replacement and a 10M player, which he isn't anymore. As I said lets hope he can get back to that this year.

incecticide Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 A central midfielder is going to be the difference between upper mid table or lower mid table. Or to put it another way, 6-7 places. I can not see us challenging the top half without one. It's been a glaring weakness for far too long. 7 places is almost 3m in extra prize money, not to mention doing better in cups etc. It's incredibly short sighted to bring nobody in with our injury record at CM. With a new right back and Diouf established on the right wing, Emerton is a prime candidate for the central midfield berth. Sam will know this. Nzonzi is unproven but so would any other new signing be - proven premiership players would be out of our price range. Add Dunn Grella and Warnock to the equation and even if you don't like Andrews we have a lot of central midfield options. I doubt the injuries will be THAT bad this season. Sometimes you have to forget statistics and rely on subjective bias and blinkered pig ignorance, oh I see that was your point. I always found that the dimmer someone was the more black and white were their opinions, no shades of grey in your world eh matey? No player is crap because a) they clear the first hurdle of being a professional ie they get paid for their work he's a professional player who plays in the best league in the world, so that's another hurdle cleared, and oh yes, c) he plays for Rovers who in my book are are pretty damn good club so he clears that one as well. If you took a breathe once in a while and actually looked at what a player was doing you'd see a lot of work going on off the ball. You'd also see that a side without him in it did not do that well, so things don't always get better when your hate figures are left in the changing room. There may well be better players out there but that doesn't make him crap. Those better players cost mega bucks so the best point you can make is that he is not as good as the players we cannot afford, well duh, good point. Remind me again, exactly why do you support this club? Chill... Not every disagreement has to become an argument.
Hughesy Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 N'Zonzi will be our main midfield man - I can see it. Once he has built his fitness up and got used the speed abit more, he will become a big player for us.
Majiball Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 N'Zonzi will be our main midfield man - I can see it. Once he has built his fitness up and got used the speed abit more, he will become a big player for us. Who will play with him then??? We need a player that has vision and passing ability, because it doesn't matter how good our strikers are if they don't get the service they won't score. I have faith we'll see one more in, somehow.
incecticide Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Who will play with him then??? We need a player that has vision and passing ability Dunn/Emerton
BRFCBOY Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 whos started the majority of games in pre season with him..............super keith
mellison24 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Who will play with him then??? We need a player that has vision and passing ability Even Gally could do a job there (as well as Dunn and Emerton).
Majiball Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Dunn/Emerton In all honesty I'd rather see Emo at Fullback again bombing on as I could see him and Diouf linking really well. The only player out of our lot I would move into that role would be MGP. But we have no-one to take his place. Dunn, if he plays the full season I'll be amazed, when is the last time Dunn completed a full season???? I wouldn't say no to Klaninic's old mate as he can play both left wing and left central, but do we have the dollar??? Gally a central midfielder, no chance. Sorry he's had his oppurtunities and if derby want to pay 1.5M for him with a nice percentage in there, he can go. It would also remove 20K (I've been told thats the sort of money he's on) so save us 1M, which we can hopefully spend elsewhere.
LeChuck Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I have faith we'll see one more in, somehow. Same here. The fact that we were after Rothen earlier in the window, and nearly signed Ghilas a few weeks back, heavily suggests Sam wants more creativity in midfield. I'm not buying this 'there's no more money left' line, we were told about having £12-£13 million after the Givet deal had been done. I don't believe that deal was done with the Roque money.
thenodrog Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 No - but Allardyce said that's it for signings now - money all gone I'll bet it isn't 'it' just yet. I'm sure there will be one or two ins and outs yet.
waggy Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 By gum Kelbo...you've got a long memory. You are quite right as far as you have gone, but maybe you should have added that he didn't stay very long either! He was shifted on to Ipswich after making just 2 appearences for us. And it was not because he was no good; far from it he was TOO good for us and immediately attracted the attention of a very good 1st division Ipswich Town, and our manager Ken Furphy did a bit of wheeling and dealing to make a tidy profit on the player. he was south african
JAL Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Didn't Colin Hendry go to Rangers just after signing a new contract? Yes, purely so that Rovers could command a higher fee from Rangers at the time. It would be a HUGE mistake if come 1st September we haven't signed a midfielder. Quite a lot of the problems of last season were caused by having an ineffective midfield which opponents found easy to play against. I'll second that Kammy.

Sam's just playing the game. Even Nicko said as soon as they where both in, now onto midfield targets. I reckon he's right. There is no-way in hell Sam is going to start the season with Andrews and N'zoni in the middle, because that thought has just allowed me to build an extension to my flat. Both have a role to play with us, but with Grella, Dunn and Reid in your squad you'd be mad not to bring in one more. Send Reid out on loan to the chumpionship for 6 months. I do believe we have to shift one or two fringe players first, alot of loans going out which hopefully drops money off the wage bill that we can spend. I wonder if he's going to try and raise as much cash as possible first before looking and bringing one quality player in. Does anyone know what happened to our new "Pele" trialist???
Lathund Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I always found that the dimmer someone was the more black and white were their opinions, So very true.
Fife Rover Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 he was south african Afraid you've lost me there Waggy.
thenodrog Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Yes, purely so that Rovers could command a higher fee from Rangers at the time. One of the best bits of business that we ever did! He was finished. The worst business was giving it back to Rangers and more with the Amoruso / Souness / Ferguson / Murray / Viola inspired scam.
PLZ Blue Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Dodged one here: http://fourfourtwo.com/news/england/34525/default.aspx
JAL Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 If that is the case then it is vital that we get Dunn, Grella, Emerton and Reid fit as soon as possible. If you look at the players history above, then only Emmerton has half a chance of regaining fitness and sustaining it the other three is just complete wishful thinking, it aint going to happen. Rovers need to reinvest in the central midfield department pdq.
thenodrog Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I always found that the dimmer someone was the more black and white were their opinions And the bigger their bank account. The best decision makers reduce everything to black and white.
incecticide Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Sam's just playing the game. Agreed - claiming poverty at this stage could be a result of a summer of people trying to tease as much of the Roque money out of us as possible. At the same time if we didn't sign anyone, it wouldn't be as much of a disaster as some people are making out. And there's always freebies.

Remind me again, exactly why do you support this club? Here he is again... All I can say is if you're happy with the fact MGP is being payed one of our highest wages, therefore making him one of the most highly valued members of the squad that's fine. I think he is being payed more than he is worth, even in todays market. I think Souness used to call it ''Short Changing.'' I think his average mark for performances over the past 2-3 years would range between the 5 and 6 mark. That, for somebody earning his money, is CRAP. And a deep breath? If only I could transfer the tone in which I say these things into writing, as it is all said very short and bluntly. I just don't suffer from the bias disillusionment 90% of Rovers fans on here do. That's why people like yourself can't grasp the concept of somebody slagging off a Rovers player without being worked up or angry about it.
incecticide Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I just don't suffer from the bias disillusionment 90% of Rovers fans on here do. To be fair, you sound both biased against and disillusioned with Pedersen. Your points about him are understandable, but also arguable.
