Majiball Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Looks like Betis are finally going to lose Emana €4m Could have done with him. Bargain at that price. I think Pederson could, and I think he would score a few goals from centre mid as well!! I am awaiting the bullets from some, but he has a great engine, closes down well, can pass and shoot!! Oh, and Beckham could too MGP would be moved in by me I just see him being so suited to the role. Then we'd need a left winger. Beckhams must be desperate to move on, they hate him at present I'd be doing evrything I could to get him here, it would change our club over-night.

mode_m Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Kalinic is an excellent signing! Happy with Rovers' strikers, goal tending, and defense. A somewhat weak midfield still, perhaps we will be seeing a lot of long ball action. Is Villaneuava still around?
incecticide Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Maybe we've replaced him in terms of numbers, but not in kind. Who would be a like-for-like replacement for Savage? Imagine this senario The scenario you laid out was absolute worst case - Dunn constantly injured and both highly-rated strikers flops? That's quite a streak of bad luck...
Majiball Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Who would be a like-for-like replacement for Savage? Grella can hopefully do it, but his niggling injuries have to get sorted so he can get a run in the team and we can find out if he can replace savage. Replacing Tugay worries me more, even last year we still used him a lot. Trouble is we lost quite a few this summer and other areas numbers dictate that they must be filled first. But even only armed with the gally sale money we could get in a good central player on loan, something I'm 100% positive Sam will try and do. If we can't get one in I can a three in there just to give us a better chance of breaking up attacks and retaining the ball.
deazel Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Looks like Betis are finally going to lose Emana €4m Could have done with him. €4m is a steal for Emana! At that price, we should be at least having a sniff around. I know our finances are tight, but this is a player who could really make an enormous difference to us....not a Tugay replacement, but he would inject some muscle, energy and drive into our midfield. I can't imagine that Valencia are offering him ridiculous wages either. Their financial problems are well documented and they can hardly be flush with cash if they are not cutting their wage bill / boosting their coffers through the sales of Villa and/or Silva.
Hughesy Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Valencia or Blackburn?!?! Difficult choice..........keep dreaming!
The Rover of Finland Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 We don´t have quality natural CM´s and I think Warnock and Emo there is the best solution. If Reidy reaches his best form he could be there also. That´s a big if though. Grella can´t pass even easiest passes but could be used when played defensifely. Andrews is a fighter and will get some starts. He can shoot better than many other Rover. Dunny I would use when we are down and need attacking power. N´Zoni is a mystery myself but he´s been rated as a talent.

Valencia have been injected with money two weeks ago, so now they can keep Silva, Mata and Villa. A consortium have splashed about 600 Million £ into the club.
A cup of beans Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Beckhams must be desperate to move on, they hate him at present I'd be doing evrything I could to get him here, it would change our club over-night. oh! my lord! beckham is finished. he'd may sell a load of rovers shirts in asia, but we'd be carrying a passenger. it's amazing how beckham is still seducing some english football fans. i'd like someone to explain what he'd have to offer and how he'd improve us.

Even I would put andrews in there before both of them it would be suicide.

I agree that Beckham is finished on the right side of midfield. But surely he can adapt his game and would be an ideal midfield "sitter". Sort of the equivalent of a quarterback?

He did very well at AC last year and Capello who's won everything in the game still picks him, guess Capello's been seduced as well then. He's not past it yet and I'd love him at Rovers he does a lot more than just sell shirts he even has his own chocolate bar.
Hughesy Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Beckham's set pieces and corners alone would be worth it with our team - NZonzi 6ft 3, Samba 6ft 4, Di Santo 6ft 4, Kalinic 6ft 2

Sort of the equivalent of a quarterback? Did he not finish off the last half hour for England a few weeks ago in that role, I thought at the time the role suited him. he still has tremendous vision his long passing is as good as Hoddel ever was and we have noone who even comes close in that department. Would certainly lift the clubs revenue (except his media rites i imagine) and stop those southern journo's slagging the club off. (guardian today) although they did have a point.

Pretty sure he played the whole game there and he was very impressive. Tugay-esque.

Sort of the equivalent of a quarterback? i still think he would be better than EHD on the right.... his balls into the box are still quality the 2 young lads up front would be scoring for fun and maybe even pedersen would score a few at the back post as he did when bentley was putting the crosses in.... beckham can also play in the center and spread the passes around... he would be great(but i dont think we will ever see him in a rovers shirt)

He was playing 80/90 minutes for Milan, scoring too, he has the ability to switch play and hit crossfield passes to feet, he keeps himself fit, its World Cup Year and he wants to play and as Hughsy has said, worth ten goals on set pieces and corners alone!! He will certainly put a shift in!!!
hi-jaq Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I think if your saying Beckham is finished at 33, then Tugay must have been the same at that age & we managed to get a further 5 years out of him... Did Zidane not retire at 33, was he finished too??? I dont think Beckham is finished, if he was to play for a team like Rovers, he would almost certainly be played in the centre of the park. His passing skills & vision is as good as anyone I've ever seen, a real top quality player, I'm certain we dont have a player anywhere near as good as him, because if we did we would'nt be discussing him. Now back to reality, we would never be able to afford his wages... Inter Milan still want him (if I was a professional football player with no affinity towards Rovers whatsoever I'd be going back to Milan, as I'm sure anyone else with the same descision to make would do). We would probably just get laughed at for going in for him... I'm not saying that we should'nt, I'm just trying to point out that its a bit of a fantasy that that deal would ever happen. Who cares anyway... we've got Keith Andrews!!!
LeChuck Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Beckham was dropped for quite a while under McClaren, so the 'sponsorship' argument pretty much falls apart with that knowledge. He only played a full game against Andorra because the rest of our midfield was unavailable. He's a brilliant impact player to have from the bench, he doesn't look at all out of place when he comes on.
Amo Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Beckham would be an extraordinary signing, but also a piepdream. I think the wifey would put her foot down over a move to little old Blackburn Rovers.
mellison24 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I'd be ALL for bringing Beckham here. Set pieces are awesome. Passing range is awesome. More revenue for the club and a few Beckham-obsessives will convert to being Rovers fans!! GREAT!! I'd play him in the Tugay role (ie: sit and pass). It'd be typical of Sam to pull it off too. But unfortunately, I can't see it.
Ronin Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Just get him to live in Manchester (just like old times?!) and then commute over to Ewood. Simples
hi-jaq Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Beckham would be an extraordinary signing, but also a piepdream. I think the wifey would put her foot down over a move to little old Blackburn Rovers. Get her a house up Highercroft... She'd love it!!! Any news on Ellington by the way??? The more I think of him playing for Rovers, the more I'm starting to feel sick!!!
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Beckham at the moment is nothing but a pipe dream. However, in a year or two I daresay he will be less in demand and actually attainable. If I was Sam I would be throwing everything I had at it, but it won't happen for a number of reasons; wife, lack of funds, reluctance to play in the PL (against United) and bigger competition.
