Its not about the population or the attendances its about shirt sales, stickers, boots, and so on all over the globe, not just in the local area. Madrid got 70,000 before him and still do its not where he generates money for a club. Ac Milan are still selling shirts for him even with this years kit, why would they offer that if there wasn't demand and he doesn't even play for them.

thats just merchandising ( the 10M), so shirts Adidas boots and so on. No-one cares what club he pays for they just want brand beckham he's a global phenomenon and has fans world wide in Asia and the middle east, if he moved to us they'd all want Rovers shirts and so one as thats where he's playing. LA Galaxy are a no-body club and where well before Beckham signed tell me you haven't heard of them now and I'll shut up.

The Americans gave him 128M over 5 years why??? mickey mouse team, mickey mouse league (sorry to our american friends) and they reckon they could get it back just in merchandising.

I even see Galaxy shirts in our country how many other american football (or football) shirts do you see for sale in our country??

It wouldn't matter if Beckham played for Leigh RMI they'd still make millions out of the merchandising.

David Beckham is known and idolised all over the world no sports man has ever had the impact he has, It would change or club for the better finacially and footballing wise.

If Sam can persuade Anelka to Bolton then he stands a chance with Becks to Rovers, Beckham is desperate to go to SA its his last chance to win it and its one of the few things he hasn't won, no-one else is making a move so why not ask. Was it not last year that when Bentley went I thought the club asked if the weasle wanted Becks?

EDIT: now I'm boarding on lunacy, nice. Best get myself to strawberry fields then.

can anyone remember our beloved Mr Walkers motto, you know the one he had on a plaque on the wall behind his desk?

;);)

10 million for samba seems too good for Rovers to refuse.........

mix feelings on this......... cause its 10 mil!!!!!!!!!

can't Spurs top it up to 15 mil, then it is a no brainer..........

As much as I love chrissy Samba- deal.

10m+ for midfield

no deal on samba for me, he`s worth a lot more than 10m to us. how many promising defenders with his immense build yet quality footballing ability are there about in the game? not many. more like 20m and only then would i start to consider it good business for us. we are short on centre halves as it is. sometimes people are blind to how good players are when they are bought on the cheap.

for those going the other way, shouting `sell him`, who exactly could we buy for 10m as a replacement?(we`d have to replace him). if your suggesting sell him and just buy midfielders, i guarentee we`d lose more games with a defence that`s lacking, than with a midfield that needs more quality. you can`t fix one problem area at the expense of another.

I was thinking the same, we need Nicko back to give it some revelance.

So was I... Beckham to Rovers

Now Nicko has gone and BFS has said there will be no more transfers, perhaps this drivvel is the best we can hope for though.

If Spurs make a firm bid of £10m and not £5m + addons etc, I'd say that was too good to turn down. We'd be fine with Givet at centre half, it'd mean we could afford to turn down all approaches for Warnock and keep him at left back, and we'd be able to sign a reserve centre half and the creative midfielder we still need. Daily Mail reckons Spurs have won the chase for Bassong at around £7m - you'd think Harry wouldn't have £17m to spend on two central defenders.

Goal.com reporting that Al-Muhammadi, who we had on trial in January, has had a successful trial at Sunderland and negotiations have begun to shift him to the Mackems. Not the best source but they have quotes from ENPPI people.

Samba to Spurs. Somebody should remind him, of what happens to players who join that club. That club will destroy Samba, and he will just be sent packing again. On money issues, did Sam say we dont have money left, or just that we wont be spending anymore untill January? Il be amazed but not surprised if we dont have money left at all.

And you trust the Rovers lot to market it so efficiently we can consistently squeeze over 80k per week over a 3/4 year period out of it? He'd be good and would strengthen us, yes, but I just doubt he'd "pay for himself". He'd certainly take a big chunk of it off though.

EDIT: Oh and can you expand on "world wide sales"?

Rovers have never been good at marketing. I always wonder who is behind our marketing campaigns ;)

About the only deal that would persuade me. At least we'd be sure of a class player in return for a class player. Get a mere 10M for him, manager will get 5M to spend and we'll be frantic to find someone before the transfer deadline. Any how, Samba is a fan's favourite, something more than the player goes when these transfers go through.

I can't believe people are seriously thinking that this would be good business. What on earth would £10m get you to improve our team? Infact, make that £5/6m as Sam wouldn't be expected to see it all.

Joleon Lescott is being talked up at £22m!

£10m plus Bentley would, admittedly, be a good deal. But that'll never happen and Harry won't go over £12/13m.

For god's sake, keep hold!

Good post -

We know full well that Sam wouldn't see half of the money that comes in- much better to have a cash + player. In terms of value, if Boumsong was worth £8 million several years ago........OIRO £15 million me thinks.

Meanwhile, Beckham and his wife Victoria are in negotiations to buy a £10m luxury home in Chelsea, sparking rumours of a move to the west London club.

Full story: The Sun

Some people on this board may be surprised she's not in negotations to buy a luxury home in Sunnybower but there you go!

We cant let big chris go on the cheap. As previously stated on here if Lescott is worth 22m then Samba has to be worth a similar amount. I understand that its not City in for him so taking thir inflated prices into consideration he still has to be worth 15m of anyones money.

Be nice to get a deal sorted and getting Bentley back though. 7m + bentley would be a good deal.

No we don't if people stick on topic! Everything is there in the papers, it just means you get it 8 hours later.

Can't see Samba being allowed to leave for a low fee this close to the season starting. If we do then it would have to be a fee bigger than Rockys considering his age.

Personally I like Big Samba but I have said before for the £250k we paid for him 18 months ago to make over £9.5m profit would just be silly to turn down, if he goes I would like us to go for Mancienne at Chelsea excellent prospect for the future already been called up to the England first team
