I didn't know there were 2 L's there hahaha. Could only read One. ANyway, at least now u have a point. As far as I could tell before u just wanted to sell Samba for the money; but now there is a practical after-plan added. The bentley one wouldn't really work unless it was samba for bentley+cash. Altho i do NOT want to sell samba (see fans fave bit, as well as being very good CB for his age), I wouldn't object to having Zurab play in his place if it got us Bentley. But thats the ONLY way I would sell. Otherwise, they can shove it.

No no no...

READ MY POSTS AND YOU WILL SEE FROM THE VERY FIRST POST THAT MY POINT WAS TO SELL SAMBA TO REINFORCE THE MIDFIELD.

Why on earth would I say sell him just to have money?? FFS, I'm sick of responding to posts where people either quote two words of a three paragraph post, or worse yet, WHEN PEOPLE CLEARLY DON'T READ ANYTHING THAT YOU'VE WRITTEN.

we can't do that. our weakest players last season were people like Mokoena who we couldn't even get a fee for - and better players cost money. surely you recognise a club like ours has to sell and be clever with the money to bring in players like samba (£400k), bring them on as players, take silly money bids like £10m and repeat the cycle?

having a badly run club is the road to relelgation. i'm willing to bet we never get relegated with williams running the show and allardyce in charge.

We can't have a strategy whereby we replace the weakest positions first? Why not? The only reason for that would be us having a transfer budget of nil.

As for your last point, you might be right because the chances are that another window of Sam having to sell his best player and given half the monies recieved to replace him, will be his last transfer window.

If we get offers for players over their value I think on certain (most) occasions we should take them. If all the money really has dried up and we can't afford a central midfieder, I think this is one of those occasions.

As for the other point, it was a ridiculous statement and I'd like to distance myself from it!

I personally would say Samba is a better player than Bentley.

He is better at centreback than Bentley is at either right wing or second striker which are his two main positions.

A player should be judged on how well they perform at the position they regularly play at. It a close run thing, but if you take last seasons form into account Samba is ahead of Bentley in value certainly.

Agreed

"Samba's not that good- he's slow on the turn and I lost count of the amount of times he was done with a little drop of the shoulder by the likes of Defoe last season." - you should have added "in my opinion".

I think most people on here thought he was our player of the season last season, so I would have to question your judgement?

Totally agree - Player of the season for me too!

I would argue that Nelsen needs Samba.

Me too - Samba gets Nelsen out of the brown stuff much more than vice versa

From what I here at Newcastle, Bassong is about to sign for Spurs, so that will hopefully stop the reports about them being interested in Samba.

Beye is set to join Villa, could this mean Luke Young being shifted over to the left pemanantly? this might end any interest in Warnock.

Disagreed - one bad season doesn't make Bentley a bad player. Before he left Rovers no way would anyone have said this.

How come Nicko has gone?

Is it because the majority of information he gives could only affect the club in a negative way and never positive? Letting people know about our targets on a public forum etc. I don't understand what it actually achieves apart from stroking his ego. Is it really important for people finding out about a deal or a target a day or so earlier than something actually happens? Surely we can wait if it therefore means there is less chance of anything being hijacked. From what i gather this is a well read forum, not only taking rovers fans into consideration. Things like the Di Santo deal are fine for him to leak since we had first refusal and so if people knew it wasn't going to affect the deal, but when we are chasing people for millions and millions of pounds surely it would be more sensible to quit all the leaks and witch hunts? Writing in his column is one thing, it being his job, but discussing it on a public forum seems a little pointless. I imagine he makes a few connections on here to help him with his work but surely it can be kept in private messages.

Thought about it a bit more...if Bentley + £5 million for Samba was offered, and we could get Huth in for the £2 million fee he's available for...I think I'd probably take it.

Didn't Bentley finish playing in a free role in the middle of midfield under Hughes? He could really solve the creativity problem we have, and he's not injury prone either. He could always move to the right wing if we decide to play 4-4-2 as well.

Whoever gets Huth for £2 million will be getting an absolute steal, he's a brilliant defender, and would replace the physical presence (both in defence and attack) that Samba brings.

I know none of this will happen though, and I'll be more than happy when Samba lines up for us next season.

I said this yesterday and I'll say it again. 6 league places is at least £3m not counting possible cup runs in prize money. In my opinion, a central midfielder will be the difference between the bottom of mid table and the top half. If' we've lost our ability to give the top 4 a game, we need to be taking the wins against the bottom 7, especially at home.

It is not like we have to spend a lot of money to improve on Andrews. If we had sold him for £1m there is a good chance a reasonable purchase of £3m or so would have had a net cost of zero by the end of the season. Perhaps that's a gamble, but some chance of finishing in the top half is better than the no chance we've got now.

Samba was our player of the season last year imo, he had a bit of a wobble/poor performance under Ince but that could be said for almost all our players. Under Allardyce he returned to his best.

Without Samba causing havoc up front for the final few games i'm almost certain we would have gone down. If any one player kept us up it was him.

Foolish to sell him.

This Bentley deal that some fans have brought up is nonsense. Spurs wouldn't agree to it and Bentley wouldn't want to come back. I'd like Bentley back of course but not at the expense of our best defender.

Hurry back Nicko. This thread is useless without information. ;)

Yet it still generates pages of rubbish like when Nicko is here.

How come Nicko has gone?

How about you read back and find out?

Considering that the majority of his stories are in a national newspaper about 7 or 8 hours later I don't think posting it on a forum does that much harm.

What, if spurs were to make that offer then it would be the most idiotic bid for a player in history?! I really hope you mean Samba + £5m for Bentley, which would be a good deal for us.

Wasn't he in and out of the Boro side last year? I was under the impression he was a bit of a dud...

That was due to injuries rather than form.

Samba is one of our most important players, Bentley is on the fringes at Spurs...their values should reflect that. Maybe £5 million is pushing, but it's not outrageous to suggest Samba could be worth £15 million (I'm looking at people like Lescott and Bassong) whilst Bentley's value could have dropped to £10 million.

I see your view, but for me Samba is not that good. Getting bentley back on the right wing would be brilliant.

Exactly Le chuck, bentley and 5m for Samba is great deal all day long.
