That young lad from Coventry would definitely be a good signing. To me, that's what this club needs - some young eager blood that is desperate to play in the Premier League, not some half-arsed 30+ foreigner that brings 'experience' and not a lot else in return for a vastly inflated pay packet.

I'm not saying signing Rothen would be a bad idea, but surely if we take even just a slight gamble for once it could pay large dividends - especially when the inevitable happens and the player moves on for a profit! Jerome Rothen AND Aron Gunnarsson would surely only cost £5m combined, which in today's market is absolutely sod all, and would considerably boost our midfield options.

What this club needs is players with the strength and ability to play in the English Premier league, not some kid from the Championship who happened to score one goal last season.

Sign first division players, get fir.........

Kalanic, jnr, elrio, nzonzi, di santos.... just a handful just signed that I can name.... I think BFS would be right to hire someone more experienced for such an important role, saying that the cov lad has always seemed like he is going somewhere to the fans.. but not many other managers have taken the gamble on hiring the lad.

Is there a reason behind Rothens apparent dip in form over the last 2 years, like a bad injury or is it just a case of him going completely off the boil??

Looks like he will be joining up though if he has been allowed to talk to us then surely a fee has been agreed or are we getting him on a free despite his contract having some time to run?

well , i think it started when he changed the name of the back of shirt and stopped dying his hair blonde , others have said it is since warnock came in at left back , as he his now restricted due to warnocks attack minded style of play.................OH!....... ROTHEN!!!! ...........sorry thought we were talking about someone else!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He was never THAT good and that is certainly part of the problem. He's also suffered by losing half a yard of pace which he really couldn't afford to lose. The key though has really been that he is a bit of a prat, he doesn't train very well and isn't overly committed to the cause. It's why he's so overwhelmingly unpopular in Paris. PSG have had a couple of bad seasons, particularly two seasons ago when they flirted with relegation, and it really says something that he looked ESPECIALLY bad in these sides. He's by no means been looked at as a scapegoat, but he's certainly shown me nothing to think that he is good enough. It's pretty rare in France to see a player be so widely available at a fairly low price and have no serious interest from clubs domestically, it's an indication of just how unimpressive he has been. Smaller sides in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 sides have to sign most of their players from within France or directly from small nations, so to have a player with his CV be unwanted...

Is he the guy that destroyed us in the FA cup last year? Looked a good un.

Yep sure did. Very clever on the ball and has a good eye for a pass. Only 19 too!

Don't worry.

After we mentioned him here, he will be linked with Rovers again in the weekend...

Thats what I was hoping

And if I rem correctly he can throw a long ball deep into the pen area. ^_^

Yep thats the one. Another less duty for MGP and making it easier to drop him on the left.

at only 19, I think he is the exact player we should look at. Also we had his agents as special guests, so we obviously did have an eye on him at one point.

How many times have you seen that happen?

I get a look at PSG about a half dozen times a season. So in the 2 dozen or so games I've seen he has been on the left maybe 5 times. All I can say is you and I are looking at the same guy through 2 very different sets of eyes. One of us is right & one of us is wrong. That's what the bet is for.

But is he any good? You can argue about where you think he plays, but why are a team who have been fighting relegation in Franch seem happy to let him leave for free?

You say you've seen him play a dozen times, have you've been impressed?

Yeah shill, I'm impressed. I've seen him fire passes into the box, from both the touchline and from the centre, which would "land on a dime" as we say here in the US. He's not quick, never was, but I like his football equivalent of what we call "court sense" in basketball. He seems to know where to be to be involved. Those 24+ matches I saw over the last 5 years must have been the only decent performances he put in in his entire time there at PSG if Eddie is to be believed.

I don't have any form of argument to counter your opinion with, as I have never properly watched the guy play. I like the descriptions I hear from what kind of player he is, as it sounds like he is blessed with more quality than all of our midfielders combined. However, I'm still concerned as you why PSG so desperately want rid, as they are are, by all accounts, crap.

I'm simply providing an update that some people might find interesting. No one has reported that a fee has been agreed, but no one has reported that one hasn't. I think the fee will, quite rightly prove a huge stumbling block. PSG do not want to let him go on a free.

If Rothen does come, I think that's a pretty big sign that we will play 3 in the middle of midfield, I can't see him being able to play in a 4-4-2. He would provide nice balance on the left side of a central 3 though.

What is his set piece taking like? I'd imagine good, but it's been a while since I saw him play and I can't remember.
