I personally would have liked to have seen us look at Gelson Fernandes, but I know that would have not necessarily been a feeling shared by everyone.

Jiminez on loan to West Ham.

Penalba (getting some rave reviews here, although he would have struggled with a work permit)

Eduardo Costa (the more I think about it the more I think he would have been a good fit for us).

Even Edouard Cissé

I'm sure there are others that I'm not aware of, I really only pay serious attention to the major transfers and then those concerning Rovers, the premier league and then whatever else I read and see when looking over things.

Thing is, looking at our midfield, it would not necessarily cost massive cash to improve what we have already got. Obviously we cannot just add people to the wage bill and we need to be careful.

However, our current personnel have difficulties in passing the ball and I don't think we have a suitable grafter, someone who can sit in front of the back 4. Grella/Reid could be that player but can they ever stay fit? Not sure yet if NZonzi fits the bill.

Sean Davis on a free could have been ok.

Whilst it would be nice to see someone creative signed, in most of our matches under Sam, we have created chances but its the finishing which has been poor.

Teko Modise, good creative midfielder. Like i said 500k would probably get him. Regular in the SA team alongside Pienaar, and always ahead of Elrio. So a work permit would be no problem.

Watching the West Brom and Newcastle game, keep an eye out for Mulumbu just signed for them looking a steal for them too, very defeive but hes got a crackig pass and a good turn on him.

Now who does that remind you off?

Keith Andrews?

Well we sold Derbyshire and Santa Cruz....I think we supporters can demand som good players coming in. I mean Di Santo is only an loan and Kalinic is not a deal YET..... if Kalinic don't get a work permit we haven't signed any replacement for Santa Cruz.

At the moment, Keith Andrews is our best midfelder, our am I wrong?

Someone mentioned that fred has scored a couple for Pompey today. He would have been a great one for us to bring in up front. Always rated him.

Do you mean the brazilian Fred who was at lyon but now with fluminese? Or actually Pequionne who's got as much talent in his body that tugay had in a nail?

Has it been mentioned that Nathan Ellington is on the bench for Watford today? Wonder if that means we have decided against taking him on?

fingers crossed, be the case.

after watching the shambles that is newcastle it has to be said the only quality player they have is barton, thing is if he was'nt a scumbag and did'nt earn 70k plus with his image rights he'd boss our midfield.............just a shame he's pure evil and over paid.

Apologies I was under the impression it was brazillian fred who had gone there on trial or something. Didn't think I'd heard about it.

I thought the same. Thought it was Brazilian Fred, but makes sense as he is a good player

Mulumbu is a decent player. He wouldn't have been very expensive, but they had him on loan from January, so they probably had first option on him anyway. Decent player though, nothing special but a slightly better version of Mokoena.

The fact no central midfielder was signed to cover tugay is bothering me no end , i posted this at the start of the window, end of last season was clear enough to see we simply werent good enough in midfield, our problem is too many sicknotes earning a wage in that area and ofc andrews who simply isnt good enough.

If sam doesnt address this area soon i feel its gonna be a long haul this season, too many harping on about replacing santa cruz, i feel the replacement of tugay in my eyes was paramount.

If you play long ball game and ask CF to hold up ball for midfield WHO SCORES! , if you play 2 up front and they need service WHO PROVIDES! .

1.2 mill for ferguson looks a god buy considering andrews could be our best midfielder.
