rovertheworld Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 N'zonzi looks like a certain starter vs Man City, sam was saying that he wanted goals from all over the park not jsut strikers as that put too much pressure on the strikers last season, breakdown of where the goals might come from: dioufy - 5 goals a season thats if he's got his lucky hair on Gamst - dont even know where to start, lets jsut hope he brakes his season duck before the new year Andrews - showed last year he's more than capable of chipping in with a few Dunn - If he can stay on the pitch that would be some achievement for him N'zonzi - a few from set pieces and corners from what i've seen of him so far is probably where he'll get his goals from So thaats around 10 or so goals from midfield - simply not good enough In regards to the defence: Givet - wouldnt mind putting a bet on him reaching 100 apps quicker than he gets his first goal for the club, as we learned from Nelsen last season Jacobsen - see above Samba - should be aiming for 5+ Looking at others PL teams around us for e.g. Everton Lescott can get 10 goals himself, piennar chips in with a few, a fit cahill all season can easily get 10, same applies to Fellaini, and even Arteta. This to go along with the goals of saha 10+ easily if he stays fit and Jo who probably will get 10+ too. Forgot to mention Osman to, get's a few handy goals to every now and then. So the problem is clear as far as im concerned, You look at everton's all round goal scoring abilities you know that most of them are capable of scoring or two. Their midfield alone gets a good chunk of their goals. Midfield is a key area and we dont have that spark who runs at players, and creates openings and make those ruins that a midfielder like cahill can iside the box.

On your logic Everton must have beaten us at least......once last year right? Their midfielders don't play the same game as ours, Cahill was essentially a striker for good parts of the year for example. Also I think if all of them scored as many as you're quoting they'd win the league.

Craigman Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Salgado - updated by Nicko http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Black...icle108803.html

roversinmyblood Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Daily Mirror on-line Courtesy of our Nicko:- Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has swooped for Spanish legend Michel Salgado - and hopes to tie up a quick deal for him before the season starts. The tough 33-year-old right back, capped 53 times by his country, arrived in Lancashire for talks about a shock free transfer move yesterday. Salgado was in for talks with Rovers officials along with his solicitor and will have a brief 'test' before finding out what is on offer - with Allardyce keen on cheap and quality recruits. The veteran defender finally quit Real after making over 250 appearances for them. He was being phased out before their summer spending spree but still wants to play in England at a top level. Allardyce has already signed a right back this summer in Danish international Lars Jacobsen, so the move is a surprise. However the Blackburn chief is always open to signing experienced players with good CVs. Salgado also has interest from West Ham, but Rovers are clear favourites to complete the deal if he can convince Allardyce that he is fit enough to play in England. It would be an eye-catching coup as Salgado has been linked with the Premier League before and even at his age he is a tough competitor who could give Rovers some experience and muscle.
Craigman Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Rothen - Updated by Nicko ! http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Black...icle108805.html
Balwer Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Salgado - updated by Nicko http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Black...icle108803.html Would be a fantastic move. Jacobsen can add depth and Emerton/Andrews can stay in the midfield. Would complete our defence with young Jones as the #3. Yes he's old but he is quality.
brfc_jonesy Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I would be well happy with that! 2 good right backs battling for a place can only be a good thing!
Iceman Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Salgado - updated by Nicko http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Black...icle108803.html Another defender? We need a midfielder please!
rovertheworld Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Your a legend nicko, a real pro, up too ur usual best story hunting, cheers. I take it this is gonna be one for the papers tommoro, even though it's out today or have i got my wires muddled up Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce weighing up move for 'new Djorkaeff' http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Black...icle108805.html I'd take nicko's word over the LET's anyday
Backroom Tom Posted August 10, 2009 Backroom Posted August 10, 2009 Not exactly youngsters but we've signed a bit of youth so far, a few old heads to replace tugay and ooijer isn't a bad thing per se. As long as Sam thinks they can do the business I'm all for it. Rothen isn't the midfield playmaker I hoped for but maybe he can do a job.
JAL Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I'd love Sam to inquire about the Villa pair in Sidwell and NRC! Obviously not to buy both but i think they could be what where missing a bit of bite with decent passing ability! Not sure NRC is happy at Right back and Sidwell cant get a game! Again folks its my opinion im not right or wrong just what i see! Both would fit the bill very nicely here at Ewood Park. good shout Hi Mack.
Iceman Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Thinking about it kind of makes sense. We could have this back 4 against City Robbo Jacobsen Salgado Givet Warnock
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Salgado- Don't see the point, Jacobsen and Emerton can do a job there as can Andrews as an emergency. Free transfer maybe but I assume considering his pedigree he would come on a decent wage. 33 years old as well. Rothen- Really a left winger by the sounds of it, not sure he is what we need... Does this mean Pedersen is on his way out?
neophox Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I had this feeling we would go for Salgado as soon as I read that he would be released by Real! I wrote some time ago that Big Sam would be a big admirer if he was available. He is a class player and he's a defender and at 33 he is a replacement for Ooijer and he's a really good player!
Steve Moss Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Salgado and Rothen, alone or together, would only strengthen the squad. I am beginning to feel very confident about the season.
BRFCGrez Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 On a side note - Nicko has said that Burnley are trying to sign Bikey from Reading. I think he'd be a cracking signing for us and I'd love for us to get in before Burnley. He has pace and power and for a small bloke is superb in the air.
JAL Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Can anyone remember what reason Nicko gave for Kamel Ghilas not joining Rovers? Joining Hull City according to SSN. Rovers got wind that a deal between Kalinic and Portsmouth had broken down, looks like Ghilas was dumped in favour of Kalinic.
Hi Mack Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Thinking about it kind of makes sense. We could have this back 4 against City Robbo Jacobsen Salgado Givet Warnock Iceman we couldnt possibly play that back 4 with Adebayor up front! They are 4 midgets as defenders go!
John Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Fair enough if we needed a right back, but it does not appear to be a priority for us. All financial resources should be going on a decent central midfielder who is not injury prone.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Salgado and Rothen, alone or together, would only strengthen the squad. I am beginning to feel very confident about the season. It would probably strengthen the squad but barely and not to the level that it really needs. Keep in mind these are players who we will probably get a couple of seasons out of, then we will have to find replacements with no money sometime in the future. I'm sorry but these signings don't inspire or excite me at all.
Kelbo Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Salgado- Don't see the point, Jacobsen and Emerton can do a job there as can Andrews as an emergency. Free transfer maybe but I assume considering his pedigree he would come on a decent wage. 33 years old as well. Rothen- Really a left winger by the sounds of it, not sure he is what we need... Does this mean Pedersen is on his way out? I remember the last defender Sam got from Real, turned out to be a top midfielder, Ivan Campo!!
