Taggart Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Thinking about it kind of makes sense. We could have this back 4 against City Robbo Jacobsen Salgado Givet Warnock We could also have, if fit, Salgado, Samba, Nelsen, Givet/Warnock To be fair, Jacobsen hasn`t done too badly pre-seaon, he has been pretty average and not made too many mistakes, but Salgado would be an improvement in terms of the CV he comes with and the experience and knowledge to back up his CV !

texasrover Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 has salgado been playing recently? just wondering what his fitness levels are like
Iceman Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Benni, Salgado, Givet, Rothen have all played champions league. And with 2 young strikers in Kalinic and Di Santo, looking to make an impression, and with Pompey and Hull in disarray i will be surprised if we struggle this season. We also have Robbo and Warnock out to impress Capello, so its certainly feeling much better than under the Ince regime
Taggart Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I agree with you. On the other hand, if Sam thinks Salgado, Rothen and/or etc., is a better move, then I am willing to trust Sam's judgement over mine. I am sure he is well aware of the club's stregths and weaknesses (to a greater degree than anyone on this board) and is taking steps to address them as best he can. He's done an outstanding job so far and I'm betting that he'll continue to make the trades which keep us on the right side of the relegation zone and maybe even a top 10 place. Spot on, completely agree with this post - and it can be used to defend any potential recruit that Sam goes after, as no-one can quite argue that they know better ? and if they do, lets hear the reasons why, and no Champ man, or FM2009 I think that is more than reasonable Question for Nicko is why on earth has The Mirror online broken this news at this time of the day........How many people are not going to bother buying the paper version now........Makes no sence or has Sir Alan got a new job as a Public servant......Very nice site tough. No More 11 O clockers I think as well............ Maybe they can become 10 O'clockers :-)
Kai Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 has salgado been playing recently? just wondering what his fitness levels are like Played on Ronaldo's debut against the Irish team. Salgado played like he belonged to that Irish team. I very much doubt that he can hack it in the Premiership now at his age. Can't teach an old dog new tricks springs to mind.
Hughesy Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Ok just had a phone call from my grandad - he's staying at Northcote tonight for his Anniversary. Anyway when they were having thier meal, on the next table was Sam, Selgado, his agent and an interprateur (sp?), although his English isn't too bad anyway. Sam was outlining his plans and when he spoke to my grandad he told him who the player was (experienced defender from Real Madrid), Sam and the player are staying there tonight and Sam hopes to sign him tomorrow.
67splitscreen Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 has salgado been playing recently? just wondering what his fitness levels are like From wiki "Salgado was released by Real Madrid with the club already midway in its preseason, in early August 2009" he shouldn't have slipped that much.

The lads first pre season game, even Ronaldo didnt do much and he is a million miles ahead of any Irish player!!

Iceman Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Come on AN, there is 168 members awaiting your arrival Was just going to point that out as well. For the last few days, at most 20 to 30 members. Now its nearly 170
Kai Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Oh dear!! The lads first pre season game, even Ronaldo didnt do much and he is a million miles ahead of any Irish player!! His biggest contribution was to get booked for diving in the box. No thanks.
Guest accysusanna Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 we wait with baited breath! wait on what ? It's going to be exactly as the mirror columns read
rovers1995 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Nicko isn't online so i guess thats it for tonight
Steve Moss Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 According to Juan Lirman, Goal.com Spain's chief editor, Salgado has "won four league titles, two Champions League trophies, one Intercontinental Cup, etc." And ""Salgado can still play at a high level, but not for the current Neo-Galactico Real Madrid." Full article is here: http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial...chel-salgado-to Seems like a good buy to me.
nicko Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Not had the chance to check on earlier posts...hope this is fresh. MICHEL SALGADO...is in the building...the former Real Madrid skipper...a very decent right back in his day...has been in for talks and will have a 'test'...he is a free...great player in his time, but now 33....interesting one....not sure where it all fits, biut what the heck. ROTHEN...is also here...despite the boss playing it down...no idea why...maybe it is part of a bigger picture... THE NANTES LAD...is due in tomorrow....surprise too, but they seem to be landing quite regulalry just now. STEPHEN REID...played in a closed-door game today...hopefully he is OK...but it would be a lot to expect him to be back and ready. KALINIC...work permit granted, as you know.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 STEPHEN REID...played in a closed-door game today...hopefully he is OK...but it would be a lot to expect him to be back and ready. Perhaps a test to see if they will let him play for Ireland (he is on standby iirc). Personally i'd wrap him in cotton wool, doubtful he is ready yet for a fully competitive game.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Interesting to see Rothen is here. Is he out of contract now or would he be available for a small fee?
rovers1995 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Thanks Nicko, have you heard the latest on the injuries suffered by Nelsen, Samba and Gallagher?
nicko Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Interesting to see Rothen is here. Is he out of contract now or would he be available for a small fee? PSG have basically kicked him out, so I can't see the fee being an issue...maybe the length of his contract would be...he wants a lengthy deal. Still, I head the midfield is a bit thin. Now it's up to the manager to decide. Didn't know Salgado was public knowledge. Now there is an interesting one.

Ste B Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 wait on what ? It's going to be exactly as the mirror columns read Or perhaps lifted for facebook. Bye.
duffbear Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Thanks for the update Nicko and welcome back Did anyone of interest play in the closed door game with Reid?
nicko Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Shocked that the Mirror internet site has come out with stories so early in the evening. Have they not heard of the 11 oclocker? New one to me....will investigate. Done foir the night. Thanks again for the kind comments. Genuinely touched.
