Oh my god, Spencey with abit of positivity there. He then goes and puts in several negative points

Leave it Hughesey.

I'm sick of you posting a direct (and completely unnecessary and off-topic) reply to anything I post - just accept that some people aren't content with just ignoring what they percieve as problems with our squad, and would rather discuss them. Kindly remove my name from your signature immediately. Thanks.

I hate to think what our wage bill will be like come the end of the transfer window.

We already have Reid, Dunn, Grella, Andrews, N'Zonzi, Diouf, Pedersen, Van Heerden, Hoilett, Doran, Judge, Gallagher and Treacy on loan. Our defence and attack look really solid, but our midfield is so bloated with rubbish. We needed to cut the numbers and add some quality, yet we're looking to bring in even more faces? It seems odd.

Treacy n Judge are out on loan. Gallagher us next under threat n Doran could easily go out on loan yet. If you have followed us closely through the summer then I'd say we are still a long way lower in the wages so far.

nicko, is there any chance by releasing the salgado story other clubs may make a move for him and this could hinder the deal. Or are we at the stage where the deal is close to completed

always possible, but like I said last night he was in yesterday, staying at northcoates last night n Sam said he hoped to sign him today!

As we have a couple of leftsided players in, and with sam not playing gamst much in pre-season, could we possible sell gamst, get 1 or 2 in, and still save money on the wage budget.?

anyone know, how much gamst is earning.?

players like rothen and capoue, cant demand unreasonable high wages.

so if we get 2 in on a free, who combined are earning around the same wage as gamst, then the transfer fee from the gamst sale, could be used elsewhere.

Salgado could definately play a midfield role, strong, good feet, can pass and still looks quite fit and like most Spanish players, appears to have looked after his body well, his experience would be invaluable and you dont get many players who have stayed at Real for 10 years!!

Not surprised by the move for Selgado.

What I could see of Jacobsen so far did not fill me with ttal confidence albeit we are talking friendly games.

Capoue and Rothen strengthen the depth of the squd but we don't have the sort of midfielder who can take a game by the scruff of the neck at this level unless our injured trio of Dunn, Reid and Emerton get back to their topmost best. Got a feeling Sam is hedging bets at this stage.

lets be fair our performance results wise, in the most recent friendlies hasn't been brilliant, but from what I saw of jacobsen last season for everton, when he played, was quite promising!!!!

Rumour flying round that Ruud van Nistelrooy is a West Ham target. I'd be very surprised if West Ham, who are skint, can afford his wages, when we couldn't. Unless they sell Upson and get to spend some of the transfer money instead of handing it over to the Icelandic banks, of course.

May the Lord bless you with much strength and peace during this horrible time.

be well.

al

If he's got any sense, he'll keep it full as the transfer deadline approaches... :D

Gamst probably 35-40k a week, but he only has 10 months left on his contract so wouldn't fetch much.

Just a thought - but with the new left-sided players we're looking at and as he's naturally right footed could MGP be an option for the right wing...?! Playing devil's advocate a little here but just shows the value of someone as versatile as Pedersen... Discuss?

Wee update department.

SALGADO seems to be a pretty serious one...got to say he is a hero of mine, so I hope there is some life left in the old dog.

ROTHEN will have his assessment and go home before figures are talked...I suspect Sam is trying to push down the price...but there could be another reason for stalling.

CAPOUE and Bolton is just a wind-up I think...he is here too.

Still waiting on word on Reidy's return. Hopefully it was not as brief as some of his previous ones. A good type who deserves a break.

Had a word with the Mirror about trying to scoop the 11 o'clocker...that will be sorted I trust.

Checking off until then...got a tale to tell too which might put some of the other incomings into sharper focus.

Got another current obsession to work on in a hurry, a family tree and a history that I knew nothing about until my dad died.

Catch you later.

He could easily play on the right, but why would we want him to? He's not as good as Diouf, or even Emerton for that matter...and we have Hoilett and Van Heerden too. And Doran!

Didn't a Mr Kerimogulu play on the wing earlier in his career? You have to trust the manager and his staff to buy the players that he thinks can make the best team with the money that he has. Its alright saying players A & B are brilliant and players C & D are a pair of donkeys, but if the brilliant players cant play in the way the manager wants, whats the point of getting them in?

I have to disagree with you slightly Nigel. I really don't want to see Butt or Barton at Ewood Park but I do believe that Smith is a more than capable player who can slot into midfield and do a job up front, thus killing two birds with one stone. Although Van Heerden has been touted as having plenty of flair and speed, I can't help but think back to last year when the same things were being said about Villanueva who, despite not being given much playing time, didn't shine as brightly as expected when he was given the opportunities. I do expect us to sign Civelli and Rothen and, with the imminent departures of Santa Cruz and Derbyshire, I really hope we get the signature of Janko or Zigic or, if the price is right, both of them! As for the players we already have, I wouldn't be surprised if Reid and Dunn have already selected new wallpaper for 'their' treatment room! I won't be holding my breath for fantastic displays from either of them next year. I'm looking forward to seeing Emerton fit again and I think

Grella will play to his full potential, along with Pedersen. I reckon we'll definitely finish in the top half of the table and I wouldn't be surprised if we're pushing for Europe too. Another cup semi-final could be on the cards, as long as Sam gets the players he's targeting.

Saw an interview with SA saying the biggest problem with Ruud was that he wont be fit for the start of the season and that's the main reason they didnt go for him.

Pretty old interview tho.

So i take it Salgado was in negotiations yesterday, and today he's probably going to undergo the dreaded "test" ;)

Shouldnt be a problem though seen as he featured in pre season for Real, so should be in decent shape

This is what goal.com had to say when he came on as a sub vs Shamrock rovers

Michel Salgado - Rating -7 - Didn't look his age, as he was still full of energy, making good last-ditch tackles and great forward runs. Booked for a dive he seemingly regretted before he even hit the ground - but he was caught!

There doesn't seem to be much doubt that that Ellington can play, its his application and desire that are under question. There are parallels with Kevin Davis. He was washed up and out of football, and given his performance at Rovers this was understandable, Sam then gave him a chance. Davis took it and hasn't looked back.

I'm not saying that Ellington should be signed, or that he will be a success, just that he's worth looking at.

Forgive me guys, I don't have any quotes here but a guy at work (he's Polish) reckons we're signing some guy from a club called Poznan or something? Its been in the Polish media for about a week but I cant for the life of me remember his name. He's 21 though, scored 15 goals in the Polish prem and scored 5 in 8 for the national team. Admittedly this was probably a pointless post.
