nicko, what's your take on Kalinic, does he get your blood flowing ;)

I know another player Janko, who you mentioned even though he played in mediocer (sp?) league had a very good goal scoring ratio, Kalinic is similar in that way, coing from a less stronger league than the austrian one.

I like the fact Kalinic is young and on the way up, all for that. The Croats are usually hard and skillful - sorry if that is a total generalisation.

My feeling on Janko was that he was big and awkward and was maybe going through a purple patch.

But, frankly it's all talk and doesn't matter until the action starts.

Are you Jason Roberts by any chance!!! (sorry couldnt help it!!!)

Hahaha, well she did compliment me on my 'broad shoulders' and 'big biceps' before proceding to grasp one with both hands and biting her lip... But I guess like Jas, appearances mean little when you lose your composure with the goal in sight. I'm gonna regret this my whole life :(

Sorry, I know is none of my business but still, gotta say... Good skills!!!

Back to the point in hand, I hope that we get Michele Salgado, he maybe old, but you dont do what he's done if your no good at what you do... Quality player, will improve the squad & will help the younger squad members develop, if he's wages are not too high, its a no brainer!!!

Haha good skills my ass!

Trev, me and you are no more. You've brought shame on our kind.

EDIT: Hang on a minute, I think I may have just figured this out. Instead of the Jason Roberts comparisons, might it be fair to say you "did a Pele".......?

What, you mean the 'useless with girls kind'? ;) If anything, I've merely cemented my name as the gayest straight bloke to ever exist.

I've got to say, I prefer the comparisons with Pele - at least he was a good footballer!

Lol, thanks buddy! Good skills up until the point when it really mattered! I'm too much of a gent for my own good :(

Disagree with your mates on this one. A man with morals. Every credit young man.

without me trawling through this thread to read the salgado thing, could somebody in the know please fill me in

He's "in the building" as Alan puts it, seems like real serious interest. Not much more to say than that.

I think Janko would do well in the prem. OK, I know the Austrian League isn't strong but Mladen Petric also came out of that league and same club ( Salzburg ) and he's doing well at Hamburg.

I watched as much as most did of Kalinic on Youtube and he does look pretty good. I think that no matter what league you are in, if you show composure in front of goal and actually place the ball into corners (take not Jay Roberts) then that should serve you in good stead in most leagues.

Agree with Nicko on the Croats thing, they seem to have an excellent blend of skill combined with good work ethic. I'm a huge fan of their national team, especially Dario Srna - can't believe he's not been signed to a bigger western european club !

Only thing is that the PL is arguably the best league in the world these days. I agree with the composure part and everything, but a lot of players show that in poorer leagues and then lose track of where goal is once they play at the top - just have a look at Alfonso Alves at Boro for proof. Hajduk asked for a lot of money for Kalinic and it's a big gamble, of course at 21 it'll be well worth it if he comes good. I do think Pogrebnyak is much more proven at a higher level though, and an absolute steal at £4 million.

Janko has been dropped by Red Bull I believe.

Croatian UEFA co-efficient appreciably better than the Austrians' if I remember correctly.

I agree with you totally on the difference between these inferior leagues and the Premiership, though with Alves, I wouldn't doubt his quality in front of goal, his misgivings were more down to his laziness and poor fitness.

I'm not bothered about Pogrebnyak, he has an ego that would put any manager off. He bad mouthed Blackburn back in January and seemed to think he was better than a mid table team. Now I watched him in action against Wolfsburg on Friday nite and admit, he showed some good touches but for me, if you don't want to play for Rovers, then you don't interest me !

there`s a hajduk fan who posts on another rovers fan board who reckons hajduk are struggling now kalinic has left them, he was the major focal point of their attacking play. that to me suggests he`s quite a player as hajduk are no dummies, and they have a pretty decent side even after he`s left. give sam time with niko to get the best out of him, he didn`t do too bad with the raw talent of kevin davies. he looked at his game, made the changes required for him to be effective and who can argue that he`s one of the best(if not the best) english strikers in the country now?

Is Aurelien Capoue coming in on trial or season long loan as reported in a few articles. Is he a similar type of player to rothen, left footed, plays in a similar position. Can't see sam taking him on loan without having a look at him on trial.

He could be a back up plan if Rothen fall's through ;)

sam it seems wasn`t lying, rothen is to be sent home today after his short trial spell. it was just a case of having a look at him and i suspect it will be the same with capoue. it remains to be seen whether we make a move. i think we only will do if he feels they are better bets for us than mgp.

it looks like we are back to trialing players again before we consider a purchase, like ince did with segundo castillo and others last season.

Well losing that many goals from any team would be tough, though they now have some cash to go out and replace him.

Is the new manager really Niko's Dad or is it just a coincidence that he shares the same surname ?
