So our defence could be:

Robinson

Salgado or Jacobsen, Samba, Nelsen, Givet

That leaves us with Swedish U21 international Martin Olsson as standby for Givet and a more attacking wing back and Zurab.

I believe we will be short of central defenders.

Our best midfeld is:

Emerton when fit at right wing,

Warnock in the middle,

Dunn when fit and not fat.....but as I said not fit.....so Nzonzi takes his role.

Pedersen, needs to work with his psychological senses....something is wrong, he was awesome 3 years ago. Big Sam needs to work with him

Steven Reid, Junior Hoilett and Keith Andrews will act as cover.

I have lost in Grella as he's always injured and pics up a lot of money.

Never seen Diouf doing a good game, looks fat and slow......sorry prove me wrong this year.

In attack I believe Kalinic and McCarthy can gel together!

Di Santo and Roberts will come in and give something different......Maybe even Gallagher?

So my best rovers team at the moment (will not start against city due to injuries)

Robinson

Jacobsen or Salgado, Samba, Nelsen, Givet

Emerton, Warnock, Nzonzi, Pedersen

Kalinic, McCarthy

But I believe this team will start on saturday:

Robinson

Jacobsen, Samba, Nelsen, Givet

Diouf, Nzonzi, Andrews, Warnock/Pedersen

Di Santo, Roberts...

Bring in Salgado and keep Warnock and we will be decent!

As a Villa fan, Shorey is pretty crap so lets not even insult people by suggesting lumbering them with him.

8 or 9m i think we'll get to speak to him, could be totally wrong of course.

Not a lot else to say on it as all we know so far is that we bid a scandalously low 4m so until we see if we're going back in not a lot to discuss!

Reo coker n your £4m bid will do lol!

Bingo!^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Plus have made a knife for their own backs!

Reo Coker 8million

Harewood 4million

Downing 11million

L young 5million

Delph 6million?

Sold Barry for 12million with just a year left on his contract!

They have paid high prices before and will have to again!

the bar has been set with recent signings!

I agree, Shorey is not good enough.

Comparing Warnock to Glen Johnson is completely useless - apples and oranges. Johnson went to Liverpool, and Rafa is insane. MON is not. Johnson is also a fair few years younger and England's first choice right back.

I'm just guessing, but I'd imagine Stevie is quite keen for European football as a first choice left back in a World Cup year, as opposed to slotting into central midfield and finishing lower mid table.

One last thing I will say. Last summer, MON was going mad when Liverpool kept bidding for Gareth Barry as he was adament that he was staying.

Now Rovers say Warny is not for sale, but I will guarantee that he will increase his bid. He wanted Stevie all summer, why bid now, 4 DAYS BEFORE THE START OF THE SEASON TO TRY UNSETTLE THE TEAM. :angry2:

Appears that Sam is looking at left wingers (Rothen, Khamel, etc) which would suggest that he doesn't see MGP as a key part of his plans.

I wouldn't mind us putting in a cheeky bid for Martin Petrov at City, if he is back to full fitness.

He looks like he is keen to leave City in search of first team action, given their recent influx of talent.

Can be a very destructive player on his day (or at least he could before his injuries.)

Shorey isn't half as good as Stevie. £18m for Johnson gives you an indication of what a fringe England full back costs. Nothing less than £10m in value will do at least!

Also we dont NEED to sell.... if we sell him for 10m we wont get better and it will weaken us CRAZY!

Can you show us a quote where we said he wasn't for sale? Back when the rumour first came out the LET said we value him at 7-9m, and now the Times and nicko both say we've told Villa to increase their bid - not that he isn't for sale.

Let us just remind ourselves of some simple facts:

- Shorey is a overated left back

- Villa paid over £4 million for him. More then he is worth.

- Shorey only plays left back. Although he currently isnt even rated at 1st choice

- Warnock is 'underated' their is no doubt

- He is a England (part time) International (deserved unlike the above!)

- £4 million would not purchase Wayne Bridges jockstrap let alone Ashley Cole's! He is worth well more then Villa's 'valuation'.

- Warnock can play left back, left wing and central midfield.

- Let's also not forget that Givet, his possible replacement is not blessed with pace or a tone of creativity such as Warnock.

- Our midfield is pretty timid when it comes to creativity so it would be suicide to sell our one reliable fall back position.

Conclusion:

- If we sell Warnock ahead of Gamst. We are going in the wrong direction.

- If we sell Warnock. How much of the money would the board give back to Sam to spend.

Won't get better for which position, though - it seems fairly clear that Givet is our first choice left back if everyone is fit, which means Warnock slotting into central or left midfield. I bet that £10m could bring in the creative midfielder we need.

Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather we kept him - I'm just being realistic, because it certainly seems like Sam is willing to part with him at this point.

Obviously that superb manager o'neill cannot tell a good full back from his elbow - he's signed a number of bloody expensive ones and still hasn't settled on any - often using centrehalfs or midfielders to do a job.

now feck off wth your derisory offer, unless you'll give us Ashley Young for three mars bars and a kitkat

Why does Sam want to sell him?

I'm confused, one post your saying sam wants to sell him and in the next your saying the club doesn't.

As far as we know Sam does not wish to sell him. I could see a scenario earlier in the summer where selling him would have allowed us to bring in more players, but it would have to take serious money this late in the day to allow us to do business with anyone.

So sell Warnock for a decent price and bring in Rothen, Capoue and Salgado with the money? Are you having a laugh, thats a totally crap deal.

I wouldn't sell Warnock, especially so close to the season start. The second best English left back in the country after Cole imo and there is talking of selling, what lunacy!

For those who say well we have Givet, Givet offers nothing going forward.

Villa can go and Feck off!

Warnock is our Number 1 left back Givet played there at the end of last season because

of injuries, Warnock was shifted to CM and Givet to LB! Selling Warnock will weaken us (unless we sign Evra/A Cole ;) )

Tell that leprechaun to DO ONE!!!!!!

Must not sell Warnock and certainly not for less than £8m. He's one of the few players who looks to get forward and with pace. £4m is a joke offer. Givet offers nothing beyond the half way line and Ollsson is a defensive liability. Using the money on top wages and signing-on fees for players with no resale value is a road to ruin.

+11.3m turnaround from sales/purchases, ?m from TV/league finish/spons/etc, large reduction in wage bill, overall profit last year.. and we have to sell warnock to be able to afford the wages of two-three players wages....

If it was a straight situation where we would loose a LB and had one who is pretty good as a replacement I would not mind, but warnock had to be used in midfield last year, we have lost more central mid players than we gained this pre-season...

If Sam has his sights set on a midfield replacement/cover(for our team of crocks) then fine, but he is looking at left sided players.. MGP in central midfield anyone?

8m+ and i'd take it. Givet is a more solid defensive left back and if i recall correctly was unlucky not to score a few last season getting into the oppo box. I like warnocks energy levels and pace but i'd always have givet at leftback given the choice and stevie is probably on far too much money not to be first choice.

Salgado on the right and jacobson as cover for either full back position.

is there any interest in any of our other players, i.e benni, right now
