We should just go back and offer them £2m for Ashley Young. If they can take the ######, so can we....

Definitely. They're being very sly by doing it so close go the start of the season aswell.

I'm not impressed.

Some suggestions if we lose Stevey (hope not).

Drenthe - out of favour at Real - maybe a loan deal?

Naylor - solid full back with good delivery from set pieces. Did well for Celtic in Champs Lge last season.

Riise - in and out of the Roma team. Great experience & still a decent age.

Lots of unwarranted digs at MON and Villa here for 'tapping up' being 'sly' etc. I posted on here two or three weeks ago that this was on but was told by Nicko it was just old stories being rehashed :)

Not a word from MON or AV this has only come from BFS and Nicko and his press mates. MON does all his deals quietly and hates press involvement so this is being blown up by t'Rovers clearly after getting more cash, which of course is any sellers perogative.

4m is just an insult made by a club which appears to be becoming arrogant beyond their status.

I am sad that you see it that way. And why do you feel that?

So far I think Villa under MON have behaved well in transfers showing respect to other clubs.

That is why I am fairly sure that Villa did not leak the story. Nicko you said you have an idea on were the story comes from! Is it from Villa?

A bid for 4 mill might be low, but unless you put in public what is the harm? Now the bid is in public and I can understand why you don't like that. I would not like it myself.

I hope MON does not talk about this in the media and that a compromise can be found that will suit both clubs, if not then we should just leave it alone.

C'mon John......... We've always done that apart from a 4 year spell in the early 90's.

It would infuriate me thats for sure.

Though I rate Warnock I have a sneaky suspicion that he might be an unsettling influence in the dressing room. I don't know why I feel that and I may be wrong but I think he might be a bit of a scouse barrack room lawyer.

But Stevie's not Scouse Drog, he's from Ormskirk in West Lancashire! Does that alter your suspicions? ;)

...and I hope you're joking. The situations surrounding big Brad's departure and Warnock's (proposed transfer) are pretty different. We didn't need the couple million we got off selling Brad, I believe it was more a case of us offering him a chance to move on for a bigger payday and a longer contract than we'd be willing to offer...whatever... I just don't see how selling one of our most valuable players (from both performance and resale perspectives) for 7-8M at this point in time could turn out well for both clubs. Sheesh.

I was not saying that 7-8 mill would be right. I was just guessing. What I said was that I hope that a deal can be made - that is satisfying to both clubs.

it just my opinion and it`s right :)

Agree with what you say Saxo1man30.

Could not believe that Steven Warnock received the player of the year award for last season especially after his Wigan walkabout debacle were he should have been dropped from the team.

Definitely in no uncertain terms do I think Ollsson is ready for premiership first team football. Givet showed scouse Stevie how to defend last season so I'd go with Nicko and say that if we flogged Warnock, big Sam would look for another centre half rather than another left back.

Olivier Thomert

I cant see there being anything in this as we have enough wingers and the 3 club rule seems to apply but you never know.

Anything in it Nicko?

I've seen Olivier Thomert play three times in person, when I've gone to watch Rennes play and he is truly dreadful. He's big unit and his main attribute is supposed to be his pace, by my god he is slow! He scored 5 or 6 goals last season which isn't bad for a winger. But we'd honestly be better keeping Pedersen or going after Rothen. He's barely good enough for Ligue 1, let alone the Premiership.

Naylor would be an awful signing. I went and watched Celtic play 5 or 6 times last season and watch most of their games on TV and Lee Naylor was always Celtic's worst player. No pace, no confidence on the ball, always looks to hit the ball as hard and as far as possible, whether or not there is a player in that area. Drenthe looked quality a few seasons ago and then like most players who hear of Real's interest, demanded a move, thinking that he would be able to break into the Real team, but surprise surprise, couldn't and has been rotting on the bench ever since.

I can't understand why Sam would be looking to offload our best left back. It's a joke that we have to sell our best players to generate any transfer funds. Over the last two seasons we've generated about £40 million from selling Bentley, Santa Cruz and Derbyshire and yet not even half of it has been put toward bringing in other players. On a brighter note, I'm happy that we are showing an interest in Michael Salgado. He's got 2 more seasons in him I'm sure and a player of his ability, class and experience would be great to have around. It would also give us another right back which is important for the strengthening the team and having cover in every position.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but apparently we are showing an interest in Boudewijn Zenden. What do people think?

I can't believe some people are of the opinion we should cash in on Warnock, what are you watching week in week out. He plays with his heart on his sleeve, is a good footballer and on the brink of the England setup, so why the hell should we sell him?

We’ve got hardly any characters in the team that will stand up and be counted when the chips are down, but apparently Warnock is very much of that ilk, and I for one don’t want to see him leave the club, unless a mega money bid comes in that we just can’t turn down, but this is Villa, not City, so no chance of that happening.

Well you seem to have seen alot more of Naylor than me so I here what you're saying.

With regards to Drenthe, I agree with you, but he still has the potential to turn things round. Another one for Sam to 'fix up' maybe ?

On the Stevie thing, I think Sam is being pragmatic. We don't have to sell but if Stevie has expressed a desire to move on (not saying he has) then Sam will look for the best deal or him.

I don't think we should sell unless he really wants to go. There are few good left backs available & for those who say Olsson is ready for the step up - I totally disagree. He is totally out of is depth & won't make it at Premier League level.

I think Zenden is the type of player we should be looking at,the only issue being his age and fitness!!

He has Prem experience, good passer of the ball, works hard and would chip in with a few goals!!

Really wiggy? I'll have to bow to your superior knowledge. But it's no wonder you say that. I rem you once telling me that the locals around that neck of the woods reckon a scouser is a straight cross between an Irishman and a pig! And don't try denying it either, I have witnesses.:P

Warnock was allowed to speak to Villa over a week ago now. There was no illegal 'tap up'.

The reason he hasn't gone yet is either;

- We are holding out for more money

- We are lining up a replacement first

- Big Sam has made him have a change of heart and he now wants to stay.

I'm hoping for the third option, because I don't want him to go. But I think now its just down to money. I heard £6m, but think we should hold out for at least £8m.

Here's one we should consider and ship Gamst out

Martin Petrov has said that he wants to leave Manchester City with Tottenham considering the Bulgaria winger. “I don’t see City depending too much on me this year, at least from what I have seen from the pre-season friendlies so far,” Petrov said. “No footballer is content with polishing the bench and I am no exception.”

Where have you got that from OJ?
