imy9 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Your addition of Olsson in there ruined your entire argument in my opinion. Stevie leaving would seriously weaken our defence and our ability to attack from a defensive position. Olsson....... Olsson is an up and coming player and at the age of 20 years old has already shown enough promise to suggest he could be a good player for us. Did you see the U21 championships, Olsson had a number of good games.

Iceman Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 The Mail have picked up on that Negredo story too. Absolutley hilarious.. Imagine if the official website were to announce: BRFC are pleased to announce the signing of Alvaro Negredo from Real Madrid.
Hughesy Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 SSN - 13.29 Hull City are closing in on the capture of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Negredo, according to the player's agent. WTF!
Guest ErinBrown Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Sky 13.29 Hull City are closing in on the capture of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Negredo, according to the player's agent. Lucky devils, he's quality.
BarrowOfCroft Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 on the benjani front, i think you'll find most of us on here will be relatively unmoved by the speculation. personally, i think he's one of those players who will score some absolute blinders and then miss a hatful of easy tap-ins or fail to give the ball to someone in acres of space. having said that, £4m in today's market is not too bad a price to pay for someone who's 'prem-ready'. not a nightmare for us, but i'm also not expecting him to be a rovers legend either. it looks to me like sam is a bit worried about the lack of experience and has therefore looked for a bargain tried and tested striker to give us more options. sure we have roberts and mccarthy, but that's about it for experience. and no-one knows whether benni is really that bothered anymore. it also fits with his plan to build a team of giants who will be awkward to play against. a game of hoofy anyone
Iceman Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 SSN - 13.29 Hull City are closing in on the capture of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Negredo, according to the player's agent. WTF! Did anybody tell Negredo, who the midfielders are at Hull? Lmao. What a big mistake that lad is making if he signs for them. Atletico Madrid is also after him, as is Sevilla and Porto. Guess he wants to come to England.
A cup of beans Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Your addition of Olsson in there ruined your entire argument in my opinion. Stevie leaving would seriously weaken our defence and our ability to attack from a defensive position. Olsson....... so you are judging olsson on 1 poor game last season (at spurs) ? olsson was given no protection by the usually reliable pedersen. have you forgotten warnock's poor displays... the arsenal game immediately springs to mind, where he was at fault for all 4 goals. he was moved to midfield soon after. i dont rate bridge that highly, but think it spoke volumes that mark hughes decided to snap up bridge, rather than warnock Sky Lucky devils, he's quality. i'd be stunned if they grabbed him! if they do, who's gonna supply him the the chances ? he must have been offered an obsene amount in wages etc...
tHe_UnAmEd Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Olsson is an up and coming player and at the age of 20 years old has already shown enough promise to suggest he could be a good player for us. Did you see the U21 championships, Olsson had a number of good games. I remember watching Rigters in a tournament much like that also as well as a whole shower of players that will never come to anything but Dunnies boot boys. Sean Dundee had a few good games as I recall but could never or will ever be a Premier League player
Guest ErinBrown Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Could the sudden influx of attention in Warnock and Gallagher over the last 24 hours have anything to do with Sam wanting Negrado? Just a thought?
they_think_its_all_rover Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 i'd be stunned if they grabbed him! if they do, who's gonna supply him the the chances ? Stephen Hunt, Mendy had as many assists last season as Ronaldo (though Mendy blows hot and cold - in a team playing well, he plays well), Geovanni can pick a pass and Bullard hopes to be playing by the end of September. Negredo likes to drop deep anyway and will have Altidore to hold the ball up for him. Those quotes have come from an interview with the Hull Daily Mail, so they may have twisted the agents words to sensationalise it all to sell more papers locally.
Iceman Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Who has seen Negredo play before? We get alot of La Liga games in SA, and he does look a good player. I just cant see how Sam would still want Negredo, without getting rid of at least Benni and/or Roberts. Its in central midfield thats crying out to be filled. Its just getting awfuly ridiculous now, defenders, wingers and strikers but no creative midfielder. 1st we just signed goalkeepers, now its defenders and strikers.
nicko Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 There is no way in the world that Negredo is on any more...Hull want him on a 'shop window' loan basis and may have a chance. Rovers have just signed Kalinic and Di Santo...Negredo became available at the right deal just too late. If you can't find the dough for Salgado's wages [at the moment] how would you find the dough for Negredo's transfer?

If you can't find the dough for Salgado's wages [at the moment] how would you find the dough for Negredo's transfer? Is that an actual loan, or is that buy for £13million and Real buy him back again at £14million the season after to sell him on again for even more profit?
Lurid Coat Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 If you can't find the dough for Salgado's wages [at the moment] how would you find the dough for Negredo's transfer? A very sad state of affairs if true. I fear that the Warnock deal has to happen if we are to improve our midfield
Gambit217 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I don't think Sam is interested in Negredo at all. I remember reading articles on his availability well before we were even linked with Kalinic so if he was available, we could have gone for him there and then.
G Somerset Rover Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Hull are drifting from dead certs for the drop to having a fighting chance if they sign Negredo, Hunt etc.

If you can't find the dough for Salgado's wages [at the moment] how would you find the dough for Negredo's transfer? We've got to try to progress in football, it's seems to be the same old story, when a good player becmoes available at the right price, the only thing that seems to be stopping us is their wages all the time. Sometimes, you got to break the bank for 1 or 2 players so that we can progress. The difference that Salgado could possibly make if he signed may be between finishing 10th and finishing 8th in the league. And we know, the higher you finish in the league the more cash the club receives. In the long term breaking the bank now, can be of benefit later on in the year.

Or the difference could be zero places. In that case we would've thrown £2M out of the window for no reason.
LeChuck Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 It's very unlikely that a right back could make a difference of two places. A top goalkeeper or striker maybe, but not a right back.
Guest ErinBrown Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Or the difference could be zero places. In that case we would've thrown £2M out of the window for no reason. Very good point. If Negrado signed for us on loan, and scored say 10 goals, that could be the difference between 2-3 places in the league table = £2.25 million. He would effectively be paying for himself!
A cup of beans Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Hull are drifting from dead certs for the drop to having a fighting chance if they sign Negredo, Hunt etc. steven hunt wont save them. i'd rather had roger hunt!

I do agree with you in part, that we should be more flexible if possible with our wages if a good player becomes available, but the fact is, with Salgado, that the player in question is 33, with no premiership experience and plays in a position where we have 3 or 4 other players who either play there or can cover there.
goragaz Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 with Salgado, that the player in question is 33, with no premiership experience I dont think he'll struggle
rovertheworld Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Or the difference could be zero places. In that case we would've thrown £2M out of the window for no reason. Thats business for you, football just isn't a game, it's also a business to, and in business sometimes you have to take risks to reap rewards later on. Or simply just play safe like we are doing at the moment . Im not saying go crazy or sommat but someone like solgado who's on a FREE only have to pay him wages can be the difference between us having a "ok" season or a "very good" season. That alone would probabl cover his wages. And in terms of attracting players, as a player you see someone like Salgado, a Mardid legend, who even featured for them in pre season coming and willing to join rovers, then other players would stand up and take notice from around europe, thinking that rovers must be a good club, have a good manager etc, if they are capable of attracting players like salgado to the club.
