Reading through this thread, I pick up on three points, firstly, regarding Ince, I wonder if his compo was affected when he took the MK job on, I recall managers not working for a while as it affected their compensation!!

secondly, Warnock or any other player for that matter can be used to create a better balance for the squad, we have two or three options at right back, Givet and Olssen at left back (as well as Jacobson)

So if it meant two midfielders, then Warnock, for the right money, would be a good sale for the club!!

Finally, I do believe, within the not too distant future, players wages etc will have to be capped, football cannot continue the way it is, clubs, and big clubs too, are struggling financially, Everton are skint, West Ham are too, Portsmouth are, maybe Rovers are being cute here and thinking outside the box!!

That's a big IF though, Kelbo.

I cant see any deals being done before fridays noon deadline, for them to be registered in time for saturday's game.

Our defence will be severley tested on Saturday i feel if we have no samba or nelsen. Enough match winners on the pitch for them, robinho, ireland, adebayor (scored a hat trick if i remeber correctly last time he was at ewood), tevez and wright phillips. It's gona be a big ask to get 3 points. But, if you want to play them, now would be the best time, as they would have gelled together yet

When wage capping is being considered what is meant is total club wages as a percentage of club income NOT invididual player income for all premiership clubs. This would lead to us being the lowest wage payers in our league.

The closest correlate with finishing place in the premiership is total player wages.

Why do you want to see us relegated ??

Rovers cant afford to take their time over this, im sure he'll have plenty of offer from not only england and if the deal isnt tied up soon then west ham who also seem to be on the hunt for a right back seeing as lucash is playing them around, then they could come in for him and offer him higher wages than what we are looking to give him and he'll be off on the next train to london. ;)

Funny how only yesterday we were getting good vibes from that sam and salgado picture.

For me, as mentioned earlier the scariest thing is what transfer kitty would there be if RSC/Derbyshire weren't sold?

I definitely read last year that they had put aside the money to sign Villanueva should he be successful. He wasn't so the money for Givet should have come from last years pot. Failing that surely they must have planned some transfer kitty into the budget for this year, even if its only £2-3 million. On top of that I thought the trust provided the £3 million per annum if required/asked for?

The stories out of Ewood over the last couple of years just don't add up.

LOL unless we really are buying that Negredo (sp) chap after all!

nickos articles,

Blackburn back on track to sign Argentine defender

Argentine defender Renato Civelli wants to re-kindle a proposed move to Blackburn.

Civelli, 25, broke off discussions with Rovers over a Bosman switch after failing to agree terms due to his excessive demands.

But the star, who is a free agent after leaving Marseille, has had a change of heart because he is desperate to play in the Premier League.

Civelli’s arrival could spark Stephen Warnock’s sale to Aston Villa, who are hoping to agree a £6million transfer  .

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has been blocked from signing Spanish legend Michel Salgado on a free transfer - by his club's money men.

Allardyce teed up the ambitious move for the former Real Madrid skipper and was pictured cheerfully wining and dining him when he flew in for talks.

But Salgado left without signing as Allardyce was told that he had to balance the books more - despite selling striker Roque Santa Cruz to Manchester City and only bringing in cut-price replacements.

Allardyce has also had to shelve cheap moves for French pair Jerome Rothen and Aurelien Capoue because of this surprise tightening of the Rovers belt.

However the Salgado affair has put a cloud over his plans for the season - with the 33-year-old exactly the type Allardyce loves to work with and give the chance of a successful end to their careers.

Rovers could afford all three potential recruits by selling Stephen Warnock to Aston Villa, but Allardyce is reluctant to trade the England hopeful - and hoped for the funds to bring in extra bodies.

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Black...icle111981.html

So, let me get this straight we have to sell one of our best players if not the best we have, just to pay for salgado's wage, rothen - who shouldnt cost more than £2M

This is a joke, its not often when players of the highest quality whove played at the highest level and still have another 2-3 years of good service left in them become available and on a FREE, all we have t odo is pay his WAGES, yes they may be a little high but im sure they can come to some sort of comprimise without having to sell our best player to fund it, incredible

Johnson has 15 England caps and has been starting all of England's recent games, Warnock played for six minutes well over a year ago and hasn't been called up since. Warnock is a hopeful with an outside chance of playing, Johnson is first choice right back, it's a HUGE difference.

A lot of people on here were complaining about Warnock's performances last season, especially under Ince. Johnson genuinely excelled last year, he managed to be one of Pompey's main attacking threats despite being a full back. I won't argue with the 100% thing, but that isn't worth much in transfer fee terms (Dickov, Kuqi, Andrews...).

I'm not trying to play down Warnock's ability or anything, he's been one of my favourite players over the last few years I wouldn't argue about him being selected ahead of Bridge...but, aside from being English, there aren't many comparisons that can be drawn between him and Glen Johnson.

LeChuck, you are trying to be realistic and sensible looking at this from a place for what we as Rovers would pay for him.

Glen Johnson is not "worth" 18 million pound.

Warnock is not "worth" 12 million pound.

The fact is that he is one of our best players so we need to hold out for the smae kind of ridiculus figures that get thrown around for any English player. Settling for 8 million pound when most other clubs would hold out for 12 million plus is not good business.

If Villa or Pompey or West Ham or Liverpool or Man Utd or anyone else pretty much had Warnock, first choice or not, he wouldn't be leaving for anything less then an inflated figure.

EDIT: Actually with the soon to be law regarding "home grown" players he is probably going to be "worth" more next year.

Just one thought on this too...

Where would Rovers have been if Roque had not gone?

Enough to give you the shudders. I recall getting slaughtered for saying they might have to sell Warnock to buy Givet. Think that summary of the finances might have been more accurate than initially thought.

No, but the mood is rather black in some quarters just now.

The Sky TV pix of the gaffer's face at the presser tomorrow may tell as much of that story as any words.

Sam gets paid shedloads in wages, i'd hate to think that he'd get in a strop over financial stuff, he's paid to manage and get on with things. JW should fine him 2 weeks wages if he turns up at a press conference in a monk and just wallows in self pity.

The fact we have'nt signed rothen, salgado, whoever straight away should'nt be a concern, its just common sense people need to be moved on first and there is no guarentee we could actually shift any that we'd want to move. Added to the fact that the positions that they'd be coming in to fill are'nt desperate at this moment.........the longer we leave it other teams may come in, but if better offers are'nt there it puts us in a better bartering position wages wise, if they both wanted 30k say and we drag it out and get them both to 25k its 500k a year saved, all about the best deal for the club.

The end of the day as good a teams as he has played for, whatever his reputation was...............he is still only a full back, on the payscale the least vital position, I always Thought it went along the lines of Goalscorers top earners, then creative players, then center halves......................finally fullbacks.

If he's asking 40-50k then cheerio, your just a full back, a good one but still just a full back.

But Salgado left without signing as Allardyce was told that he had to balance the books more

Astounding.

The short-sightedness of the board in failing to appreciate that each place in the Premier League table is worth £760,000 (source) is almost beyond comprehension. Experienced, proven winners like Salgado and Rothen are the sort of players who can get us further up the league.

Last summer we sold Freidel and Bentley for around £20m and spent half of that. Where did that money go? And why on earth does no-one ask these questions?

I always Thought it went along the lines of Goalscorers top earners, then creative players, then center halves......................finally fullbacks.

We should be making a saving on wages there.

ha ha, told you, there was no way salgado, rothen and t`other guy were signing without warnock leaving. sam has said on numerous occasions that we may do 1 out and 2 in, but at this moment warnock is going nowhere, so common sense says no deal on the others(with the wage structure already beyond the limit they wanted it at). this may still happen, and we may get those 3 players, but not without warnock leaving.

Wow...you sure told us. I guess most Rovers supporters were assuming that the "out" would be a player of lesser consequence (i.e. Gallagher), and not Warnock. I'm really disappointed with having to step back from bringing in Salgado, and I think Sam has every right to be annoyed with the "money men"....he's no doubt annoyed after putting the time in to broker a deal for a player that we apparently can't afford. I think we saw last season that this edition of Rovers was one that needed to be strategically reinforced...and that is what Sam is trying to do...rather than simply patching and papering over the obvious holes and weak spots in the side as the trustees seem content to do.

the question that needs answering is why did the board allow salgado to fly in all the way from spain if they had no intention of releasing the funds to cover his wages, especially considering the fact they clearly didn`t mind the press knowing he was here?

has rovers been reduced to what they used to be pre-jack walker, happy to be linked to names because it sells tickets, but having no intention of signing them?

I don't always agree with you, mate. But you are spot on with this. Why waste money flying potential signings (and the management) left right and centre, when the money isn't available to sign them - doesn't make sense.

IF all this turns out to be true, i wouldn`t blame sam if he chose to walk out i`m afraid to say. he got screwed around similary by the bolton board and won`t want the same again.

Wtf is going on. As much as i respect JW he should come out and explain to the fans what is happening. You have Salgado flown in, and Rothen making all the noises about being signed. However, to get these players in we need to sell. Im sorry, its okay to want to balance the books etc, but at least show some ambition and back the manager. Its no wonder we not moving forward.
